For any special occasion, we always go to Shiro's to celebrate. Our 26th wedding anniversary was on 11/09/14, and they had a special table by the window and came out with a complimentary ice cream / apple strudel desert. All without asking. Food is always consistent and excellent, and their wine selection and coffees are great too! We had crab cakes, rib eye, and french sea bass, all cooked to perfection. Shiro's is in small town South Pasadena, a Japanese/French restaurant. We've been going there for years, and we know we're going to have an excellent meal. The service is always excellent. The restaurant is white table clothed but people come in either casual or business casual. Price is $$$$, but well-worth it.

I went w/ 2 friends in town from Seattle area, and we all had a terrific dinner. They have plenty of good Asian and seafood restaurants, of course, but they still were delighted w/ Shiro's food and service. I think it's quite reasonable in comparison, and the food and service are always top-notch.

The special appetizer for the evening was a ravioli made with truffles along with other delightful ingredients. The noodle was delicate and the flavor was fantastic. This could be an entree for some. Overall, everyone loved their meal, especially the prix fixed dinner--it was quite a bargain. The porterhouse steak was one of the best I've had in a restaurant. And, the catfish! Amazing!

Shiro has consistently delivered excellent food and service. It's now our go-to restaurant for special occasions, company, etc. Service is attentive and the waiters actually understand the food. Every server we have had has been pleasant, helpful, and on top of things. The kitchen is very cooperative about trying to give you what you want - the special was a tempura halibut that my wife can't eat because she needs to avoid gluten. They were very helpful in providing us another preparation. From appetizer to dessert, everything was excellent.

Everything we tried was very delicious. The mushroom truffle ravioli special was simply divine. The fried catfish, which is their specialty, is a must especially for the first time visitors. The rib eye was also exceptional: perfectly medium rare and very tasty. Our waiter was very attentive and cordial. We were very pleased with our experience. We will definitely be back. Recommend for everyone who is looking to try delicious and interesting food.

Where was the "French"? Where was the potato puree under my delicious John Dory? Where was a "decent" table for 2 not in the line of fire of either the wait staff ingress/egress or the Mens Room? Probably the best "bussing" in Pasadena/South Pas....probably not one of the better expensive meals in town..yet we'll try again...because the parking was easy/free...the "welcome" and wait staff friendly.... please spring for some better stainless utensils...and please improve your wine and beer selections...and next time, please offer some sparkling water...you'd have generated even more $s than our $190 for two...did I really pay that much!?

We were looking for a new place to try out for our 7 year wedding anniversary and found Shiro on Open Table. Located in an unassuming storefront on Mission /Fair Oaks area of South Pasadena, we noticed the linen tablecloths near the window seating, and were pleasantly suprised with the friendly staff and quiet ambience and pleasant background music. For the appetizer, we tried the spinach stuffed ravioli with truffle oil and truffle shavings, amazing!I had the black cod with miso glaze and my wife had the spinach wrapped halibut with champagne sauce. Both were 5 star plates. We will be back again!

Shiro, in South Pasadena, has been around for some time. It never fails to provide welcoming, courteous, and responsive service. The ambiance is genteel, even soothing, but you can tell everybody there is enjoying the experience. The food is consistently fabulous with portions an ideal size. In addition to the items on the menu, there are off-menu specials of appetizers, the main course, and dessert. I invariably order fish, this last time sauteed loup de mer (French sea bass), and my companion tried the roasted John Dory. Both were deemed superb. I also sampled my companion's chestnut dessert and discovered I loved chestnuts. I had a delightful apple tart with ice cream and a caramel sauce. Wines by the class are well chosen.

We brought our mom here for dinner to celebrate her birthday. It's a nice, casual place. Service was wonderful, and the food was really fantastic. It was all delicious but the highlights were two of the specials -- the salmon tartar tacos and the truffle ravioli. The flavors for each dish were perfectly balanced and amazing! Everyone in our party loved the food. Can't wait to go back.

Good food - colleagues really enjoyed the Black Cod while I enjoyed a steak. Menu is very limited but dishes were very good. For desert all diners were very satisfied with their choices but my Creme Brule was not good - its served cold and was very runny. Ambience is somewhat lacking with very little decor and therefore atmosphere. Overall good value and great service.

I walk by Shiro Restaurant frequently on my way home from Metro Mission Gold Line Station and always wanted to try this place. On this special occasion we celebrated my wife's birthday with our 20-yr old son. We really enjoyed the food that we ordered to shared; love their stuffed Chinese Ravioli with Shiitake mushroom appetizer, daily special ribeye steak very tender and juicy, and the signature Whole Sizzling Catfish, fried with sliced ginger wedged between the cuts, served with Ponzu sauce looks and tastes as great as it does from the windows whenever I walked by! Service was awesome; manager, waiter and staffs constantly walked by to check with us. Very quiet dinning experience, a must try when you are in city of South Pasadena!

We love this restaurant soooo much!! - we only wish we could afford to go there more often! The owner is so welcoming and sweet... makes us feel like she is welcoming us into her home. The catfish is one of our favorites but every single thing we've tried is not just good but exquisite. We've always had great service, love the specialty drinks and yummy desserts! A great place to go anytime, but it's our go to place for any special occasion, especially Valentine's day!

We've been several times. Immensely enjoyed the tuna tartare and sweetbreads for starters, and the softshell crab and lamb chops for dinner. Service is impeccable but not at all stuffy; in fact, the front of house staff seems to never change. The host has been there all 14 years. The menu is not lengthy, but it is high quality. Two tables sit by the window - ideal for people watching.
