Diner Reviews
  • "The tuna special with a mango/strawberry/tropical topping on top of the tuna with jasmine rice was amazing. The tuna was cooked just they way I requested and the medley of flavors was wonderful. My companions had the scallops and shrimp entree and greatly enjoyed their meals. We sat in a more traditional room, which was quiet and optimal for our conversations. Service was good and we never felt rushed as we spent quality time catching up with each other. The restaurant also offers a more casual area and outside seating in better weather."

  • "Your selection of foods was excellent, especially since we had to have fish that Friday. The joys of being Catholic."

  • "Good points: outstanding food; attentive and personable service; visible and very friendly management; most pleasant and exclusive environment. Detractors: Served the salad before the appetizers; a bit pricey, but the quality of the food and dining experience justified it."

  • "A very nice restaurant with great food, good service and a nice feel. We were well satisfied and would certainly return. My oysters were nice and fresh, the paella was very tasty and the bing cherry desert was great. My wife's beet salad was perfect, and her filet mignon was prepared just right. The only problem we had was choosing what to order off of the menu."

  • "My brother and sister-in-law gave us a gift certificate for Ship Inn at Christmas. We have dined there a few times before. We didn't have high expectations, given our prior visits, but we keep an open mind, and base our experience on the current visit. Both of our meals were overly salty. We would generally carry out leftovers, if there are any. But, this time my wife left her meal unfinished, and didn't ask to have it wrapped to take home. The only reason I am not rating the service as excellent is because we were not offered any compensation for dissatisfaction we expressed. Perhaps offering to take a glass of wine off of the bill might have been appreciated?"

  • "A group of us were traveling on business and found this on Open Table. Since we were in a historic area we wanted a location that fit. This is the place. Great food and atmosphere."

  • "Opted for the Ship's Inn on Valentine's Day because of gift certificate bought at a charity auction. Lucky us. With our son, the three of us picked a good variety from the appetizers, entries and drinks menu. All were good to excellent, and the service was attentive. We'll be back soon."

  • "My husband and I had a busy Valentine's Day but we were able to have a wonderful lunch in front of a fireplace in a beautiful small dining room. Perfect for the occasion."

  • "this restaurant is in a great old stone farmhouse. my strip steak was very good. seasoned well and cooked to my specs. my wife was dissapointed in the undercooked and unseasoned salmon. our waitressed had too many tables but did a nice job in spite of that. the Ship Inn is overpriced for what it is. it might be better on a less crowded night."

  • "Ambiance abounds at the Ship Inn. Wonderful candlelight dinner with tables decorated with rose peddles. Duckling prepared perfectly. My husband had the Lobster. Superb. Thank you again for not disappointing."

  • "Once again the Ship Inn did not disappoint . Always go for the seafood however the flambeyd steak was superb . The charm of the dining room stands out. Jack never disappoints . Attention to detail has spoiled me and look for the same when dining at other restaurants ."

  • "We arrived and were promptly seated and made welcomed. Service was prompt and paced and allowed time for conversation and to enjoy the evening. Service was excellent but paced so as not to make you uncomfortable or rushed. The appetizers were right size, well proportioned and very tasty. Both entrees, the twin lobster tails and the lobster thermador were excellent. The wine was at room temperature and reasonably priced. Desserts and specialty coffees were made to order. The crime brûlée assortment was excellent and the bing cherries and vanilla ice cream were very good. Fresh cherries were cooked in a very good sauce - not unpleasantly sweet - just pleasant and tart enough to bring out the flavor. Definitely worth the trip"

  • "Loved the atmosphere and warmth of the open fireplace and candlelight. Our server Jack did an outstanding job in offering specials, describing the wine list with great attention to detail. Being hard to decide what to order the crab cakes were reccomended and were wonderful. I would defintely reccomend the Ship Inn for a romantic night out."

  • "The Ship Inn was highly recommended to me by a friend and I see why. We arrived early for our reservation and sat at the bar and enjoyed a drink before going to our table. The menu has a lot of great dishes but I decided to get the Sea bass special which was fantastic. We all started out with a very nice mushroom soup each had a entrée and we all shared 3 great desserts. The server was very friendly and also had great conversation with him during our meal to make it even more enjoyable. We highly recommend the Ship Inn."

  • "mushroom soup was wonderful. After that everything went downhill. tasteless chicken, soupy paella, boring dessert."

  • "This was our fist visit and it was a reserved new years eve reservation. We arrived on time and taken to a booth without proper table setting and it was downhill from there. Our server was nice but didn't know how to open a bottle of wine nor pour it properly. Meanwhile our coats were crammed next to us, even though our waitress indicated she would take them. The food was cold and not cooked nor served properly, when we notified our waitress she said everyone was saying that this evening....duh? Perhaps that indicates something ?? Never again we will go to Ships Inn, much better restaurants surrounding the area."

  • "This is my 2nd (last) Ship Inn visit in 8 days - Both times, food quality wasn't worth the high price! Lunch @ $89 for 2 plus tip (each had soup, appetizer, dessert & 1 glass of wine) Onion soup w/ steak tasted weird, the dejon shrimp were OK but very small (3 @ $14.50). On NY's eve - Lettuce Wedge Salad dressing tasted sour topped w/ "fake" bacon. Steak Diane sauce was more like brown gravy & steak was too fatty to be "Filet Mignon" as advertised! 2nd entrée was rack of lamb w/ 3 very small ribs. Both entrée came w/ a diner-style ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes. Only the veggies were gourmet! A shared dessert - vanilla ice cream w/ hot cherry sauce was a soupy mess - few cherries, little ice cream! Certainly not worth $102!!!"

  • "The staff appeared unprepared for the number of customers on Christmas. My husband was not served his salad until the rest of our party's entrees were arriving. My husband attempted to order the duck, but was informed there was no duck left, despite our early reservation time 5:45. The entrees were not particularly well prepared."

  • "Lived near Ship Inn for years and never went here. Returning home and decided to give it a try. I was worried because we ended up there in a bad snow storm but food and service were great."

  • "Historic and beautiful! The food was excellent but my server was completely uneducated about gluten food allergies which is very rare these days. Besides that, this place is top notch and the steak was wonderful."

  • "Ship Inn has been a Chester County dining spot for many years. Our dinner was fantastic and the service was impeccable. What I love about Ship Inn is it is quality food versus quantity. The portion sizes are perfect. The menu changes, organic vegies are used and the presentation is simple but delightful. The historic building quaint yet roomy, you won't hear your neighboring tables conversation. Highly recommend!"

  • "We went on a coupon. It was late but servers were constantly working around us. It was unnerving and never intimate. Food was ok but sides were just not imaginative. Steaks were good and blue cheese sauce for steak was just amazing. I am just glad I had a coupon. Was not worth full price and $12.50 for 4 shrimp cocktail is outrageous."

  • "Restaurant was not crowded. Drinks from the bar wine and Vodka tonic. Our waiter gave us the specials, I wish he would have told us the cost. Our waiter brought us each a roll and some butter. He then took our order. We shared an appetizer of calamari which were very good. I had the appetizer salad which was a bed of spinach with scallops and shrimp. It was very good but I felt the scallops were not as large as they could have been they seems to be cut in half. My husband had the special steak and shrimp which was delicious. I think the was a little high for strip steak. We did not have desert. We did eat everything and it was delicious. We would definitely go there again."

  • "The ambiance left me underwhelmed it was a hodgepodge of unattractive and extremely dated wallpapers, textures and colors. The layout wasn't particularly intimate despite the relatively small rooms. The service was acceptable (she was friendly and helpful), the food was alright but certainly not worth the price - the scallops were cooked appropriately but were bland, the asparagus was also bland and the other side was so sorry that I can't recall what it was exactly. The pineapple salsa was lacking in flavor as was the rest of the entree. Ultimately, the place has potential but seriously fell short of my relatively low expectations. Any of a number of $-$$ gastro-pubs could outshine this restaurant."

  • "Food was good however food was very pricey for what you got also service was just ok had dinner reservation for 9pm we arrived at 8:45 we were seated right away and our waiter came right over and took our drink order told us the specials and came back with our drinks like in two minutes and asked for our dinner order the whole meal felt very rushed we were in and out in less then 45 min I just felt like we were his last table and he couldn't wait for us to leave all in all decent place nothing special probably wont be going back."

  • "We have been coming to the Ship Inn regularly for over fifteen years, and it never fails to impress. Although we both have our favourites on the regular menu, it's always worth paying attention to the specials, which have always been excellent. The staff are always attentive, well-informed, and very friendly. We hope to be. back for another visit soon!k"
