Diner Reviews
  • "Was traveling on business and used OpenTable to find this lovely restaurant. Excellent food - I had the mushroom bisque followed by blackened sea bass. Food was perfect, and service by Barbara was stellar - great personality, with pleasant humor. Fine dining with a casual flair that is perfect for those Friday and Saturday night dinners with friends."

  • "Had a great dining experience here at Ship Inn. Service was friendly and outstanding. Manager stopped by at most of the tables checking on the food quality. Dinner was quite tasty. Would recommend stopping by if you are in the area."

  • "Nice quiet evening having dinner at the Ship Inn. Had the Lemon Snapper dinner special, outstanding. Vegetables were perfectly done. My husband ordered the crab cakes. Best we have ever had. The Ship Inn is the go to place in Exton for great seafood and steak"

  • "Ship Inn is truly a gem. Dined last night out on the patio. Very nice ambiance. Had the seafood platter, well prepared, fresh not overdone. Ordered a bottle of Layer Cake, great wine. Keep up the good work Ship Inn"

  • "The Ship Inn was a delight! The service was excellent and the food expertly prepared. The food leans more toward traditional fare and it was delicious."

  • "We had never been to Ship Inn but decided to try it for Father's Day with our two young children. It was kid friendly, but you definitely felt a senior citizen vibe throughout the whole place. The background music that engulfed the place was from the early 70's and most of the clientele were well over 60. We did go early due to the kids, but it was pretty empty. The food was mediocre, which was surprising as they boast having a "young new chef" with some sort of "foodie" reputation. It was so-so, but I would try somewhere else next time. Maybe my expectations were too high."

  • "I have passed the Ship Inn many times but this is the first time I dined there. The food was excellent. It was a great value. I will be going back in the near future."

  • "Overall good experience. Filet mignon was okay. Lobster tail didn't taste like lobster. It tasted like it was prepared with other food."

  • "My husband and I went for our anniversary. We arrived a little early to get a cocktail before dinner. No seats at the bar so we were going to sit outside. It was early, so General Manager said that we could just take our time and have our dinner on the patio if we wanted. Eric was our waiter and he was very attentive, without being overbearing. He was knowledgeable about the menu and was able to make recommendations. We had wine and appetizers outside, but then a storm rolled through so we ended up inside for dinner. Food was terrific...my husband had the seafood thermador and was very pleased. "

  • "We were celebrating Mothers Day with the family and had a lovely experience. Had an opportunity to sit outside, weather was perfect, enjoyed the ambiance of the patio. I had the seafood platter, everything was fresh and well prepared. Looking forward to coming back again"

  • "We took ourfamily of 6 to dinner after West Chester Graduation. The food was wonderful! I can say that I would only go back for a special occassion because the overall cost was more that what we usually spend. For a special occassion though it was perfect. "

  • "We were a party of eight people celebrating two birthdays. We had a wonderful dinner, everyone licked the plate clean, our servers were wonderful we didn't have to wait for anything and everyone got what they ordered."

  • "Food was good except for the roguefort pear salad. The dressing was port wine based and overdone with port wine, my daughter took a couple of bites and could not eat it, when the waitress picked it up she offered a different salad but we were ready for our entrée by then, I thought that they would credit the bill since it was inedible but they did not, we are not complainers and would not request they do the right thing. This did not leave me with a positive feeling about the restaurant. If they had credited us for the salad it would have gone a long way as an act of good will and also effort to please their patrons, No matter how good the dinner this left me with a bad impression and I will not be returning to Ships Inn, "

  • "We had a great time at our dinner - the ambience was really nice (still chilly enough to have a fire going in the fireplace). The food was excellent- lots of good choices for both main meal and dessert. "

  • "Our family of 7 including a 2 year old enjoyed our incredible Easter Meal. The service was amazing, with friendly and attentive wait staff. The food was awesome and everything we asked for, for the 2 year old was delivered promptly. It was a great experience, and our 3rd Easter Dinner At the Ship Inn. It is definitely an Easter tradition for our family."

  • "Dining at its best. Table was ready when we arrived. Greeted by a lovely hostess. Server was outstanding. I had the seafood platter, everything was fresh. Even though it was a holiday, we were allowed to take our time dining. Cake Richard for dessert, if you like chocolate, order this. Not to miss."

  • "The tuna special with a mango/strawberry/tropical topping on top of the tuna with jasmine rice was amazing. The tuna was cooked just they way I requested and the medley of flavors was wonderful. My companions had the scallops and shrimp entree and greatly enjoyed their meals. We sat in a more traditional room, which was quiet and optimal for our conversations. Service was good and we never felt rushed as we spent quality time catching up with each other. The restaurant also offers a more casual area and outside seating in better weather."

  • "Good points: outstanding food; attentive and personable service; visible and very friendly management; most pleasant and exclusive environment. Detractors: Served the salad before the appetizers; a bit pricey, but the quality of the food and dining experience justified it."

  • "A very nice restaurant with great food, good service and a nice feel. We were well satisfied and would certainly return. My oysters were nice and fresh, the paella was very tasty and the bing cherry desert was great. My wife's beet salad was perfect, and her filet mignon was prepared just right. The only problem we had was choosing what to order off of the menu."

  • "A group of us were traveling on business and found this on Open Table. Since we were in a historic area we wanted a location that fit. This is the place. Great food and atmosphere."

  • "My brother and sister-in-law gave us a gift certificate for Ship Inn at Christmas. We have dined there a few times before. We didn't have high expectations, given our prior visits, but we keep an open mind, and base our experience on the current visit. Both of our meals were overly salty. We would generally carry out leftovers, if there are any. But, this time my wife left her meal unfinished, and didn't ask to have it wrapped to take home. The only reason I am not rating the service as excellent is because we were not offered any compensation for dissatisfaction we expressed. Perhaps offering to take a glass of wine off of the bill might have been appreciated?"

  • "Opted for the Ship's Inn on Valentine's Day because of gift certificate bought at a charity auction. Lucky us. With our son, the three of us picked a good variety from the appetizers, entries and drinks menu. All were good to excellent, and the service was attentive. We'll be back soon."

  • "this restaurant is in a great old stone farmhouse. my strip steak was very good. seasoned well and cooked to my specs. my wife was dissapointed in the undercooked and unseasoned salmon. our waitressed had too many tables but did a nice job in spite of that. the Ship Inn is overpriced for what it is. it might be better on a less crowded night."

  • "Ambiance abounds at the Ship Inn. Wonderful candlelight dinner with tables decorated with rose peddles. Duckling prepared perfectly. My husband had the Lobster. Superb. Thank you again for not disappointing."

  • "Once again the Ship Inn did not disappoint . Always go for the seafood however the flambeyd steak was superb . The charm of the dining room stands out. Jack never disappoints . Attention to detail has spoiled me and look for the same when dining at other restaurants ."

  • "We arrived and were promptly seated and made welcomed. Service was prompt and paced and allowed time for conversation and to enjoy the evening. Service was excellent but paced so as not to make you uncomfortable or rushed. The appetizers were right size, well proportioned and very tasty. Both entrees, the twin lobster tails and the lobster thermador were excellent. The wine was at room temperature and reasonably priced. Desserts and specialty coffees were made to order. The crime brûlée assortment was excellent and the bing cherries and vanilla ice cream were very good. Fresh cherries were cooked in a very good sauce - not unpleasantly sweet - just pleasant and tart enough to bring out the flavor. Definitely worth the trip"

  • "The Ship Inn was highly recommended to me by a friend and I see why. We arrived early for our reservation and sat at the bar and enjoyed a drink before going to our table. The menu has a lot of great dishes but I decided to get the Sea bass special which was fantastic. We all started out with a very nice mushroom soup each had a entrée and we all shared 3 great desserts. The server was very friendly and also had great conversation with him during our meal to make it even more enjoyable. We highly recommend the Ship Inn."

  • "Loved the atmosphere and warmth of the open fireplace and candlelight. Our server Jack did an outstanding job in offering specials, describing the wine list with great attention to detail. Being hard to decide what to order the crab cakes were reccomended and were wonderful. I would defintely reccomend the Ship Inn for a romantic night out."
