A word from Shiok Singapore Kitchen
Shiok! Singapore Kitchen offers a selection of authentic Singaporean food in a casual and friendly environment. We hope you will enjoy our home-cooked flavors and find it a Shiok experience too.

Singapore is a multi-ethnic society made up of Chinese, Malay, and Indian, whose immigrant forefathers brought with them rich food traditions from across Asia.

Typical Singaporean food is thus an exciting blend of culinary heritage based on some of Asia's greatest cuisine. This combination creates a unique and dynamic flavor more lively and far richer than the traditions from which they stem.

Diner Reviews
  • "Food is delicious, singapore dishes with Family recipies prepared by relatives"

  • "To be fair, my standards are higher because I lived in Malaysia and Singapore for many year. However, in comparison to similar fare in South Bay, Shiok is quite overpriced. Two skewers of satay are priced at $7? In addition, when asked about the Hainanese chicken rice, the waitress couldn't give us the information we wanted. I would recommend Merlion in Cupertino instead. Nice ambiance, solid (not amazing) food, great service, and very affordable. "

  • "the restaurant was quite good; especially the vegetable side dishes. it was very noisy and the tables are so close together that it's difficult to get in and out of your chair. all in all, I was a place I would return to."

  • "We had the laksa and the chilli crab. Both sated my cravings, but could have used more heat. I was delighted that the chilli crab came with fried buns. I was disappointed that the calamansi juice wasn't fresh. If I'd know that, I wouldn't have ordered it. All in all, a friendly, laid back atmosphere and good food."

  • "I was in a party of three. Ordered many dishes and nearly all of them were very good. One of the best Singaporean restaurants you'll find. The coconut rice to go with the meals is fantastic"

  • "This place was disapointing. Curry was lacking flavor, nothing was spectaculiar."

  • "Best to let them combine the flavors of Singapore themselves if you're not familiar with the country's delicious food options."

  • "It was the same old thing again at Shiok! -- fantastic food, great service and a warm, comfortable feel. My wife and I have been looking for years for an "our place" in Menlo Park. After many false starts and disappointments at other venues, we have found our place here at Shiok! Hope to see you there."

  • "With just a little extra effort, this could be a neighborhood gem. Little problems with each dish: the Beef Rendang was made with cheap dry meat; the Chicken Satay was overcooked; the lettuce cups were flavorless and had an inelegant peanut sauce that tasted like Reese's Pieces. But spice was good and flavora, when present, were well balanced. Our waiter was the bright spot in the experience. Very gracious. Made us feel like a guest at his dinner party. Excellent customer service from him."

  • "A frequent favorite - we come back as often as we can."

  • "Absolutely wonderful food. We had the special which gave us six items: appetizer, salad, 3 different entrees and dessert! for $27 a piece! It was such a treat, we ordered a take out dish the next evening. It will become a regular event in our dining out!"

  • "This is a casual and tiny place which was understaffed so we had to wait a while before getting our food. The food was quite good and flavorful."

  • "Went there around 6pm on a Friday. It was still a bit slow but by 7pm, it was getting full. We had small kids and other tables had kids too. Food came promptly. Portions were a bit smaller than we expected for the prices and considering they said the dishes were meant to be shared family-style. Overall, taste was good, especially the Shioking Beef. But we specifically asked for the green beans dish to not be spicy since it was being ordered for little kids, and we were assured that the vegetarian version we were ordering was only going to be flavored with soy sauce, but it still came fairly spicy with red peppers. Clay pot rice dish was good but not really clay pot...just rice with toppings simulating as if it was done in clay pot."

  • "The roasted eggplant got a 10, duck with noodles a 8, curry salmon a 4 (skin on salmon), and service, quality and presentation, a solid 8. It's a nice change from other Asian restaurants and certainly is healthier than all the fried and oily food one finds a Chinese-style restaurant. Figure about $30 per person. Would I go back? Sure, maybe in a year."

  • "It's a standard for me. Really find the dishes consistently delicious."

  • "Some of the wait staff did not seem to be in the mood the whole evening."

  • "Casual but nice place. Had some tasty and healthy options on the menu."

  • "Portion is small. Some of the food are ok, some are mediocre. Shiok cancelled our Open Table reservation while we were dining, even though we checked in and acknowledged by the hostess upon arrival. It was resolved after several attempts from us. Recommend to check your Open-Table-point after dining. If you are not local, won't recommend driving there to eat."

  • "First time here and the duck and singapore pepper crab were great! Meals could have been a tad hotter but other than that, all was great. We'll be back..."

  • "Love the food at Shiok! Very well-cooked. The prix fixe menu is a bargain and very delicious. I would definitely recommend and return."

  • "Disappointed with the food. Roti was overcooked and greasy - seems that it was reheated from pre-made. Steamed seabass was tiny, for $18, I was hoping for something bigger than McD pattie size. String beans were good. Overall subpar - would not go back, and do not understand the rave ratings."

  • "Delicious food. For a group, we each selected an entree or appetizer, and just shared everything . That worked very well. Two desserts for our table of 6 provided just the right ending to the meal."
    Dined on 5/26/2012
  • "The food is exceptional. And the staff paces the courses beautifully. The only downside is the portions are on the small side."

  • "Food was excellent, service was good...we'll be back!"

  • "Two waiters for the whole restaurant. Or maybe only 1 1/2. Took forever to get drink order. Left our check with 2 other checks on a nearby empty table. great food but not worth the frustration."

  • "Treated my family and extended family of 12 to a celebrate my first paycheck. The service was friendly and helped make the experience an enjoyable one. Food was delicious of course. Will definitely be coming here more."

  • "Came to this place several times already. A small cozy place so it'd be better to have reservation if you bring a big group or for peak times. I tried many different dishes and liked most of them. Especially any of their noodles are addictive in addition to their famous Roti Prata. I brought ten foodies last time and they all liked the food. The portion of each dish is relatively smaller than American standard, which means you can try many different dishes =) Most of the staffs are friendly also."

  • "A family-run operation with good food and service by caring waitpeople. Good value."
    Dined on 12/21/2011
  • "One of the best places in Menlo Park for ethnic food. Get the Roti Prata, the Shioking Beef, and the Beef Rendang."
    Dined on 11/28/2011
  • "There are many Asian places but less that are truly SE Asian, this one is and its very very good. Not the atmosphere of Ceylon Rd or East Coast Park but the foods almost as good!"
    Dined on 10/25/2011
  • "Food quality and portion size was all over the map, kind of inconsistent. Service was very slow and unpredictable :( But at least we were not charged for the items they forgot to bring out to us!"
    Dined on 10/22/2011
  • "3rd time was not the charm - perhaps it was the dishes we ordered, but the appetizers were excellent and the entrees (duck with garlic noodles and a prawn dish) were not. We were much happier our previous visits. I hope it was just an off evening"

  • "The Open Table Reviewers are not wrong about this one. Give it a try. Combo offer for two was perfect to try several dishes. Service very friendly and caring."

  • "What a great little Menlo Park find. First thing I recommend is the Roti bread, it is a must try. I took my wife here for her birthday and she was absolutely thrilled with everything. The food was wonderful and the staff was super nice and friendly. The price was worth it all."

  • "We came for an early dinner. It wasn't crowded when we arrived, but the place filled up quickly. The food is good and very reasonably priced. The only complaint is the service is horrible. They needed to have another wait person on the tables. They had quite a few take out orders."
    Dined on 8/20/2011
  • "It was our 1st time at this restaurant. I ordered the crab and had no idea what I was getting into. It was crab legs with a sauce that I had to use my hands to clean--very messy. It was dry and hardy any meat for the price of 29.00. My husband had the sea bass and it great. I fell I should have been told when I ordered the crab, what it realy was. We may try again and I will order a different dish."

  • "My last visit to shiok was about 10 years ago and I remember the portions being sufficient for a group of 10. It must have changed somewhere along the line because my visit there last week with my husband was different. If we had not been full from a previous bbq lunch, he would have been seriously annoyed by the portions. Each serving of rice is only about half a bowl and the table next to us also had to ask for another serving of rice so you know it is not just us. The kangkang portion was barely enough for 1 person, let alone shared with anybody. Everything has shrunk in portions and the prices have gone up. If that doesn't bother you, the food was tasty."

  • "Very good food, service was rather poor, but maybe we just caught them on a busy night. Be sure to save room for dessert, they are excellent! We tried the fried banana w/coconut ice cream, along with another dessert that had an Indian crepe & coconut ice cream. Yum!"

  • "The food was amazing and I loved the ambiance. Definitely coming back. The one thing that disappointed me was the restaurant's choice to use styrofoam for take away boxes instead of compostable boxes. For a high quality restaurant in this area, they should be able to afford the more expensive but environmentally conscious alternative."
