We made a last minute reservation for dinner for 4 and most of us hadn't dined there since the early 90's. I can say I came home completely satisfied and genuinely surprised that, even after a complete renovation and some changing of hands, the food and ambiance, abet very different, were outstanding! The food was plentiful and very tasty. The wine list was varied and showed thoughtfulness in the selection and pricing. Very comfortable place to dine (cushy booths) which is so important nowadays and we could hear each other! Some places are so noisy, this place had jazz playing but the acoustics were so good, we could hear our friends very well..... very important as a baby boomer

All in all my group of 7 had a very enjoyable lunch. This was an annual Christmas lunch for a group of friends at work. I had made a reservation about 5-6 weeks out so we would be ensured a table. Once there, we discovered that our reservation was NOT on the books because of a manager either quitting or being let go and was told that all reservations had been lost at that point, which makes no sense to me. The regular dining room had been closed for a large party of 60 so we were stuffed into a table at the bar. Again, food was excellent and our server was very gracious and helpful but it did leave a slight bad taste in my mouth that I put forth the effort to reserve a nice table well ahead of time and we get stuck in the bar.

We happened to dine on a night when there were several company parties in progress. As a result there was a longer lag between the time our orders went in and the time they were brought to us. Our waitress was great, continuously checking in to see if everything was okay and to give us a status on the bar and kitchen. We tried the Rosemary Nuts, on the appetizer menu, and they were addictive. They had a wonderful flavor. The fish and chips were excellent and the meatloaf was good.

Went to dinner right after the lunch crowd and start of dinner. Felt a little rushed and service was disorganized. Had to ask for menus and also ask for knives. The staff was pleasant and food was good. Prices were about right. It was a little cold until heaters finally turned on. Will eat there again.

I have been here before and it has never been great, but I was surprised at what a joke it was for Thanksgiving! First it took 15 minutes to get a booth as they had to clean one off because they were so busy. Once I was seated I saw about 5 booths that were just sitting there empty and it wasn't like they had just cleaned them as no one had left while we waited. Then they had a limited menu and all at the same price and I was told you got 6 ounces of Turkey or you could have the 12 ounce Prime Rib. When I asked for bread I was told the chef was not offering it - who ever heard of thanksgiving dinner without a roll? After dealing with attitude the entire time and based on past experience of mediocre food we walked out!

I haven't been here since way back when most of the courses were "all you can eat". The remodel is very nice, and uses a lot of cloth. The result is a much quieter place than before. Its a very attractive venue. I was there for Thanksgiving Dinner about 4pm, with my adult daughter. Overall the food was delicious, and I tend to be very picky. The roasted red potatoes were a little salty but still tasted OK. I ordered a "rusty nail" from the bar. It wasn't quite right, but they adjusted the Drambuie level for me. My stuffed salmon, and her mushroom ravioli were both very enjoyable, but a little pricey all things considered. I felt rushed. There were many opportunities to improve service. They cut me off - See YELP for the full review

We came for Thanksgiving dinner. The waitress was perky, but very inattentive and slow. The main course was brought about a minute after the soup/salad, so it was cold when we got to it. She forgot she had already taken our dessert order. Failed to bring spoons for coffee and didn't check for refills until the end. The quality of food was good. What really ticked us off was the restaurant saw fit to secretly include an 18% tip onto the bill for a party of 2! The credit card receipt you sign did NOT indicate this and left the tip space blank, suggesting it needed to be added. I wonder how many people didn't realize this and paid two tips. The only way we found out was by checking the itemized tab carefully--who normally does that?

The restaurant has a nice ambience, however the service was sub par. We had a young waitress that came over to us to take drink orders after 5 minutes of us sitting down. We did not get our water or drinks for another 10-15 minutes. We then got to order dinner. We waited for our meal for about 35 minutes. The two tables around us got a lot more attention to detail and received their dinner faster than us, although they sat down after us. We really enjoyed the food here, but we do not plan to return again, unless we have time to sit and wait for at least an hour and forty five minutes to wait for attention. Sorry

Issue was with the service. The Hostess was gone for extended periods. Once seated, we understood why, she was setting tables, folding napkins, etc. She was telling customers it would be a hour wait when the dining room was half empty. The servers seemed stressed. It took 15 minutes before a waiter acknowledged us but once our order was placed, the food did arrive somewhat promptly. Both waiters got down on their knees to take orders and I did see a waitress plop down beside a customer to take an order, not very professional. I saw a diner leave his table, go to the bar to return with another glass of wine. On another note, we were not unhappy with our food, the clam chowder was flavorful and the Strip steak was cooked as ordered.

We were surprised when we arrived and the restaurant seemed to be completely vacant; however, looks were deceiving as the dining room was relatively busy. Service was a bit uneven although our server was quite earnest. The kitchen was SLOW. We weren't impressed with our starter salads. They were passable but not great. Our entrees were quite excellent and the portions were enormous. There were LONG waits between courses -- though our server wanted to know our dessert order when we were only halfway through our entrees. It seemed rather odd. We skipped dessert given that the other portions were huge. I don't know if we'll be back or not. The proximity of the restaurant is good for us but I wasn't impressed enough to say that we'll be back.

We had a great meal, well-prepared and delivered hot & tasty. The only negative was the excessively loud partying from the bar area. We were there on a Friday evening and there was a group party of some sort. If the bar was more separated from the dining room it would be much more hospitable for someone wanting a quiet dinner.

The prime rib was delicious, but the blackened halibut was not even blackened, had no flavor, and was a very small piece. Our server, Shelby C, was very attentive, even with a huge party going on in the main dining room. We will return, but will not order the halibut.

We made the reservation on Open Table, but when we got to the restaurant we found we would have a long wait for a dining room table since the large hall was reserved for a group of 100 diners. The restaurant didn't turn off the available slots on Open Table. We chose to fine outside, which turned out to be uncomfortably cold. We have been their customer for years across owners, but have become increasingly less satisfied with the total experience.

I have been here a couple of times for lunch and it has always been very good. So when my wife asked me to take her there for our anniversary dinner I happily agreed. Here is my critique. 1. Service was slow, even though it wasn't crowded. It took twenty minutes to get our salads and they were prepared inccorrectly. They offered new ones but we just didn't want to wait again. 2. I ordered prime rib. It was a large portion, prepared properly but it was very tough. 3. There were only two desserts ont eh menu.

Hadn't been to this establishment for a long time. Pleased to find the food was very good, and the atmosphere still has charm. Remember the old Sheephearder and loved the history feel of days gone by with cowboys and sheephearders sitting at the bar and in front of the wonderful fireplaces. The old bar is gone, but it is charming and the menu interesting and generous.

Our party of 7 arrived early, brought a bottle of wine and was seated on time. We waited for our server, who finally arrived to take the order. The corkage for our bottle was noted and the server came back later to open the bottle. After one hour and a complaint to the hostess, the salads arrived followed within minutes by the entrees. The owner showed up as the entrees were served and said he would make everything all right. I'm not sure what he meant but he didn't do anything. The wine we ordered for the maincourse showed up after we had completed our meal. There were not enough staff to accommodate the number of patrons. The food was pretty good, if you aren't in a hurry and don't mind waiting for your food and beverages.

Too little space to write all the issues we had, but in short: Staffing shortage had our server splitting her time as a bartender. Not her fault, but there was a problem with the food and it was cold by the time she was able to return to our table. She was nice enough to offer to replace the sandwich (Reuben), but I quickly realized there was no sauerkraut on the new sandwich. I asked for some sauerkraut and the server returned to advise that they were out of sauerkraut. The kitchen sent out a Reuben sandwich, without sauerkraut, because they were out of it? Did they think I wouldn't notice? I hope these problems aren't signs of the demise of this lovely restaurant.
