  • "I chose this restaurant as the place to propose to my girlfriend and they did not let me down on the level of quality of experience. The food was perfect and the wait staff was very attentive. This is a true dining experience. The view is overlooking Schlitterbaun water park which isn't what I was expecting. On the other side of the building where you can view the pyramids of Moody Gardens it is the Shearn Lounge (aka bar). Our dinner finished in time for us to catch the nightly fireworks at 9:45pm."

  • "First understand that there is a difference between dining and eating out. My wife and I say that when a meal last much less than two hours, you are not dining, your just eating out. Shearn's is a place for dining. I offers the best scenic view of any restaurant on the Island of Galveston. The food preparation and presentation is on par with any of the best. Service was attentive without intrusive hovering. Don't miss the stuffed mushrooms with crab for an appetizer. Almost any entrée will make for a wonderful dining experience."

  • "My hubby had the ribeye plate & I had the lamb chops, which were both very good. We travel quite a bit & usually will not find too many dining experiences that are comparable to the California fare & flare we're accustomed to. The Lobster Bisque was top notch! We usually do not order Lobster Bisque, as many of restaurants have tried & failed mastering the flavor factor in this dish, they've mastered it & it is a must try...though can't say the same of their gumbo or brulee trio dessert One other thing....we were told at the conclusion of our meal that a 17% is auto added to the check, that was a no no, though we did not protest, as we were so busy enjoying our evening and our waiter was excellent right up until the delivery of that news."

  • "I have been to Shearn's 4-5 times and I have always been very happy with my choices. Saturday night I got the filet cooked Rare. I cut into it and it was very cooked. I cut into it again and did not believe it was cooked to my order. No red meat, no red juices coming out and slightly tough to chew. I called the waiter over and he agreed it was not rare. He took my steak and came back one minute later with my original steak cut completely in half and said the kitchen said it was rare. Well, I am not dumb. I known what rare meat looks and tastes like. It was NOT rare. I was not going to have a discussion in this nice dining room and embarrass everyone involved so I just sat and ate some of the steak not as I ordered it. So sad!"

We ordered Shrimp Dejonge as an app, goat cheese pear strawberry salad, the baked potato gnocchi and the NY strip with green peppercorn Jack Daniel's sauce. Also go the chocolate souffle. Everything was fantastic, and slightly less expensive than in comparable restaurant in Houston. Server was Michael with Jacob assisting. The whole team was great."

  • "We had a lovely date night at Shearn's this Saturday, and even though we had very high expectations of it after having a wonderful meal last year, Shearn's exceeded our expectations. We're comfortable ordering anything off the menu, and we know it will be wonderful. The best part of the meal is definitely dessert - I suggest either the dessert sampler or their creme brulee, depending on how much variety you want."

  • "We went there for our wedding anniversary. My wife had the crab cakes, and they were very good. I had a New York Strip Sirloin that was comparable to similar steaks I've had from Del Frisco's, only about 25% less expensive here at Shearn's. We both started with the Lobster bisque. It was a great start, and necessary since it was a decent wait for our food. Drinks were reasonably priced (again, given the venue). With a great atmosphere and overall high level of dining, the value was quite good and the food was amazing. "

  • "We took my mother out to celebrate her birthday. Few restaurants offer all the ingredients to accomplish the perfect celebration but we found them all at Shearn's. The flowers we had ordered for the table were waiting for us upon arrival so we knew we were off to a good start. Special to us was the delicious and light vichyssoise, the delectable escargot and the superlative soufflé. When we were leaving without the flowers the manager rushed out to the elevator vestibule with them. The attentive staff ensures a perfect evening."

  • "Dine here on almost every special occasion. Great food and great ambiance. But, this time, the service was way below par. Had to ask for bread, was not presented the wine bottle before opening, table was not cleared of unused glasses and silverware and overall table service was somewhat shoddy. Would have given a lower overall rating, but based on experiences on many prior occasions, I know that this must have been an anomaly. Perhaps new wait staff, etc. I'll reserve judgement until my next visit."

  • "Very disappointed that we weren't notified that there was a set menu for Valentines day. Mainly because we didn't really want the items that they had. They need to let people know ahead of time. There was only one dessert which was Chocolate and we don't eat chocolate. The hostess was not very polite, we had made reservations weeks ahead of time and had asked for a window table. She sat us in a corner with no view and when I asked about other seating, she said that someone else had set the seating. When my husband asked the Manager later on, he said we could sit where ever we'd like that was open. She needs to be spoken to. The Manager was very nice."

You have to go to Houston to find a comparison, but even then most Houston places can't come close to the view at Shearn's. A fantastic place for any kind of a special occasion."

Our group had a wide variety of appetizers ,salads and entries and all were well prepared and accompanied by great service. The bisque is really outstanding as well as the Portobello mushroom with lump crab appetizer.. We will return."

  • "The food and service are impeccable. The wine list for an upscale restaurant is minimal and I expected more. Compared to other upscale restaurants in Galveston the wine list needs to be brought up a notch. I asked if we could bring our own wine and pay a corkage fee which is an option at some of the smaller restaurants in town and was told no. When we have a great steak we expect to have a great cabernet to accompany it."

  • "We were down in Galveston for the weekend and decided to celebrate our 41st anniversary at Shearn's. We were greeted most cordially by the host who told us that our table would be ready whenever we wanted as we had informed him that we were going to the bar for a drink first. The chairs were most comfortable, the view excellent, and we enjoyed the Sinatra-like music. All of our food including the crab balls, filet and snapper special we're scrumptious. Our service was leisurely and pleasant throughout the evening and the evening was topped off with a complimentary chocolate soufflé that was delicious. All in all it was a great evening and we would recommend Shearn's to anyone wanting a most pleasant dining experience."

  • "good setting good service good food at times too rich and to heavy...watch the Cholesterol...too few low fat items on the menu sauces are very rich feels like Swiss food very different for Galveston , better organized than Gaidos impressed by fish knives an unknown entity in Galveston....an ideal place for special occasions pricey but worth it...lower prices and smaller portions would allow more frequent visits....leaner items on the menu would be welcome , nouvelle cuisine, California fusion would be good at least some items of it...obviously Urs is proud of his work, and he should be, its nice to see him coming in the dining room and talking to regulars"
