Diner Reviews
  • "Every time we go to Chicago, we walk over from our hotel after checking in for dinner at Shaw's. We have been taking our daughters since they were young and they have always enjoyed it. The menu makes it possible for each person to find just what they like. The service is always perfect, the kitchen is fast, and the food is always excellant. Looking at what I have just written, it almost looks like this is pretty much a place that sets the standards for restaurants. If you love seafood like we do, it is."

  • "First of all, I have been here a few times and always enjoyed it.. however today I went for lunch and not so much. It was really stuffy in the main dining room for lunch, and they don't have any specials for lunch... which I find to be odd. I ordered the clam chowder bowl of soup which was pretty good and a wedge salad which was awful! There was ONE tomato on the salad. ONE. The bacon bits were just that.. TINY BITS.. not even recognizable to be bacon.. and way too much dressing. For the prices they charge, I would expect a little more of a better eating experience. The staff is friendly. Kudos to y'all!"

  • "The staff, the food, the ambience all created the perfect setting for our romantic night out. Absolutely perfect!"

  • "I have been coming here for a long time and the quality is good, but prices seem to have gotten out of line for what you get. There are more reasonably priced alternatives around."

  • "It was the first spring night in Chicago, so people were out enjoying the weather. We went on a Friday night, had reservations but waited a little. Not a problem since there was a lot of activity and a bar area to wait. The dining room was large and had a high energy. Tables were close together but since it was so busy we couldn't hear our neighbors. The food and service was great. The scallops were excellent, but portion was small. Our waiter sensed that it wasn't enough for my husband as he searched for his potatoes on the plate. The waiter quickly arrived with a side order of mashed potatoes! Would return if I ever get back to Chicago, hopefully soon!"

  • "Food was great and the tuna tartar with avocado was over the top! Have been to several "hot new" restaurants this trip and Shaw's was better and more consistent than any of them. Noise level was not bad for a busy Friday night. We could actually have a conversation. Server was knowledge and personable. Prices reasonable for the quality received."

  • "I brought a group of clients to this restaurant and had an incredible meal from the service to the food! All of us (9) had fish or seafood and it was incredible to say the least. I go to shaws about twice a year but this was my first experience treating a group of people to a meal. I had the scallops, amazing. Clients had salmon, swordfish, halibut, crab cakes, lobster, Etc. They all said it was perfect. Wine list is amazing. Best Chicago seafood restaurant without a doubt!!! Excellent job lettuce entertain you restaurants, shaws is a winner!!!!"

  • "Food was fabulous. The wait staff was even better than the food. We increased our group size without difficulty and had a great evening. Perfect venue to reconnect with friends."

  • "I was a regular at this place back in the late 80's. We had reservations and were immediately seated at a nice big round table for 6 (There were 5 in our party) I ordered their "Surf and Surf" which is an 8oz. Lobster Tail & 1.5lbs of Alaskan King Crab legs. Sides here are A La Carte as with most fine restaurants. I'm quite picky about my food and service as I think it should be when choosing to pay the price for high end dining. Shaw's Crab House did not dissapoint! All in all a great experience. If you enjoy seafood and fine dining as much as I do you should definitely have Shaw's in your preferred restaurants speed dial!"

  • "Food is very good but overpriced for quality. Tuna was supposedly seared raw but was overcooked. Wait staff was very friendly but even with a reservation and empty tables we had to wait almost 20 minutes to be seated."

  • "Sunday morning brunch was the perfect way to end a weekend in Chi town. great atmosphere, service, food and cocktails. The oyster bar, kinda like a old school lunch counter, can do the trick for any meal. im so glad I went."

  • "The quality of the food at Shaw's Sunday brunch is the best that I have had at any buffet. Service was excellent as well. While not cheap, it is a good value. I will try to visit there again if I'm in Chicago."

  • "They were slow with our reservations, and our waitress was really slow. We were there for three hours."

  • "Large well known establishment, service was excellent on large crowded Saturday evening. Oysters Rock was excellent and the Yellowfin was superb. we will be back"

  • "This was our third time dining at Shaws and it is SUPER frustrating when you make a reservation and the restaurant is NEVER on time! We have always waited an additional 30 minutes from our set reservation. When you plan an evening out, arrange for a baby sitter, and we make it on time, the expectation is the restaurant be on time!!!"

  • "Reservations through "Open Table" could not have been simpler nor more efficient. This service is second to none. The special occasion was passed on to the restaurant perfectly, and it makes me want to dine at restaurants only signatory to "Open Table". Shaw's took over where Open Table left off, and made it a perfect "special occasion" dining experience. Hard to say which was better, the food or the service. Five stars to both of you. Thanks, Dale Payne"

  • "We are batting 2 for 2 at Shaw's. On Saturday evening it was a different table, different room, different server, but the same great service, food and ambiance. Shaw's has managed to retain its old school roots but remain relevant today with an interesting menu, great fresh food well prepared, and a lively ambiance. 5 stars all the way!"

  • "I've been to Shaw's Schaumburg location several times with no problems. The food is comparable, but the one Downtown is lacking some items from the other location. I made a reservation through OpenTable, but then I still had to wait just the same as people who didn't reserve a table. What gives? The waiter, whose name escapes me, seemed very rude. He didn't ask to refill our soda at all and he didn't know much about the menu items. I gave him a $20 bill and asked him to break it for me, so that I could tip him, and he ended up bringing me back a different $20 bill. This was probably the worst service I have had at a restaurant and Shaw's, in my opinion, deserves someone much better qualified. If you want to go to Shaw's go to Schaumburg."

  • "I dine out for a living in the wine business. this was a break to spend time with my daughters. Some places look at my 12 year twins and pay more attention to tables with only adults. that was not the case here. the food has always been very good but to me it was more about the respect given to my daughters. they know how to eat so we normally are a higher check average than most, but they were made to feel at home. The chowder was fantastic, although they had Lobster Buisque which is not in our top ten, a bit of a surprise. The Filet & Crab combo they had was fantastic and the appetizer of Oysters Rockefeller made some new fans from my girls."

  • "Excellent menu. Seafood was fantastic, wide variety of choices and wait staff was very professional, excellent knowledge of the preparations and possibilities when discussing the variety of plates offered. We will return again."

  • "Everything was great. The only drawback ... the lobby gets VERY full and you can barely move at peak hours. Bar small so you can't escape there. Know this before you arrive at peak hours and you'll be fine. Claustrophobia? You can wait outside. They give you a device to let you know when your table is ready."

  • "Shaw's is a great spot to remember how to properly fine. The wait staff is attentive and the food is cooked perfectly. Great seafood in a wonderful space."

  • "I have been visiting Shaw's Crab House for 20 years and for the past year I have been have noticed that they appear to be resting on their laurels. The food was good but no longer great. The sourdough bread has been replaced with some generic selection and the wait staff are inattentive. I think I will go elsewhere for awhile then try them again in a year or so."

  • "We sat at a nice table, but the atmosphere is very busy and loud. The food was excellent. However, I ordered a medium serving of stone crab and was charged and later told I ordered a large. I wasn't going to argue but I was very confident about what I ordered. Even given the miscommunication, I would definitely return to Shaw's."

  • "Such a nice restaurant, although they wouldn't seat the 4 of us until all 8 people arrived, it was worth the wait. The food was top-notch and the service was even better. They even let me choose a free dessert for my birthday... I love free desserts!! Overall, for the portions we all got, it was worth the price!"

  • "The food was unbelievable. I had the surf and turf which was cooked to perfection!! Even the side of little greens was delectable. My date had the club combination, the scallops were mouth wateringly good. While the steak was the perfect amount of pink. The side of spinach actually blew our socks off with the rich flavor. Can not wait to go back again!!! :)"
