  • "Four of us sat in a corner table on a beautiful, sunny day. I had the salad niscoise with ahi tuna - fabulous. The bread rolls were rather good as well."

  • "I have been lucky only once to get their famous quiche. At my last three visits the restaurant was sold out of quiche after less than 30 min. after opening for lunch. My hope is the restaurant make enough of this excellent course available to more customers."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "Second time there. Love the views BUT the food is simply mediocre. Same comment from my two guests. Menu descriptions were fine. My tuna was seasoned in a weird way and served on a bed of overcooked and somewhat cold noodles. It's close to the Children's Hospital so convenient for our use."

  • "We visit The Shaugnessy at least twice a year and always enjoy a stress free dinner or lunch with a glorious view of VanDusen gardens. The food is uncomplicated and always good.i would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "This is an iconic restaurant, unfortunately the food did not live up to the representation. This is my fourth or fifth time dining here. I must say the quality of the food was lowest this time. The food was cold and the spice combination strange. Even the french fries were bad. On the positive, you can't beat the views of the gardens."

  • "Unbelievable great environment..... Food is fresh & tasty... Complimentry pastry---- Bluebery scones are delicious.... Nice services too.... No pricy based on the location"

  • "A problem for these restaurant is their waiter/waitress is not always around, making it difficult to ask sauces or seasonings."

  • "Friendly, quiet, and good food. Have been occasionally coming to this restaurant since the 80s, even before it was called Shaughnessy."

  • "I like the feel of the Shaughnessy. Surrounded by the gardens. Food is good and so is the service."

  • "Pacifica Benni satisfactory though egg slightly runny, minimal lox; seafood quesadilla rich with good amount of scallops / prawns. Coffee wonderfully hot, meyer lemon ice cream delicious. Waiter exemplary, cheerful and attentive. Welcome was disappointing, no offer to take coats or suggestion that we put them in available closet, hence tricky seating on a bulgy banquette."

  • "We had another great dinner here. They are truly a very nice place to dine."

  • "We came here for dinner before Xmas and each of us were given a $20.00 coupon towards our next dinner. This is an excellent way to get us to come back. Since there were 4 of us and we could only use 2 coupons per table we've made reservations to come back at the end of the month. We each ordered something g different from the last time and the food was very tasty and good. Thanks."

  • "I think the food prices were high for the qunatity received> I had a lamb shank but I have had larger chicken legs. The cod dish lacked in size ans had prawns (3) but not suffucuent for an adult. The seafood soup was plentiful and tasty but lacked pieces of meat such as calms, muscles, scallops which would normally br found in a chowder. I would have preferred the top of the rhubarb and strawberry crumble to be crisp. THe wiatress was attentive, prompt, informative and tried hard. A highlight of the evening"

  • "I always enjoy this restaurant. The food is good within the price range, it is not meant as an extra special restaurant I'd say. But the food and service is good, the setting and view excellent. It is bright and open inside and you have the gardens about you. There are all sorts of places to walk after, including the VanDusen gardens (admission charge though), and the surrounding neighbourhoods. There is also the Visitor Centre and Discovery Hall and gift shop next to the restaurant. Great for a calm, relaxed, slow late morning or afternoon meal and walk."

  • "The restaurant' s main qualities are due to its location within the city and within a spectacular park. Easy to park with ample spaces; walking through the entrance and corridor is in itself a good precursor before you enter the restaurant. The dining area is ample, tastefully decorated, with high ceilings; the ambiance is warm and peaceful, tables are well spaced, allowing for privacy, the lighting is restful. The menu is attractive, the food is good and well presented. The service is impeccable, from the moment you enter until you leave, subtle and discreet in its details but competent and effective."

  • "Shaughnessy Restaurant used to be the "go to" place for quiet lunches but our recent visit was disappointing. Granted the restaurant was busier than usual, the noise level was high...as in people were speaking louder than usual. Perhaps it was where we were seated... right in the middle... instead of our usual window seat, tucked away. With busyness came mistakes... The server (not our waiter who took the order) brought over the wrong entree and the wrong dessert. Our water glasses were empty for a long time and water spilled on my purse (sitting on the adjacent empty chair) while it was being poured. We noticed it, watched the process but the waiter (yes, this time it was our waiter) was oblivious."

  • "Seared ahi was dry, overcooked, and boring. Very small portions for the hefty price. Good service. Won't be going back any time soon."

  • "We dined at Shaughnessy during the Christmas Lights Festival. I could not believe how beautiful the lights were outside the restaurant. The setting was gorgeous. Food and service were amazing. I definately will be back."

  • "We seem to go here very often and I guess its because of the great food and the very attentive service we get. We are always greeted with smiles and feel very welcome. Waiters already know what we like to drink and we are served very promptly. Excellent."

  • "We went there for valentine dinner. I like it that they have choices to choose special menu or regular stuff. The fish special was great, but the steak was not the best as it was over cooked. The flower that I had ordered was put on ready at table when arrived. Made us feel welcome when coming in already and service was good."

  • "I have chosen this venue as our go to place as enjoy the ambiance, food, service and parking convenience. Chose the "Quiche of the Day" last visit and it was excellent."

  • "I dine at Shaughnessy often because the location is convenient, the view of the garden is lovely and the parking plentiful. It is bright and airy. My standard go-to was the daily salmon special. However, it is no longer on the menu. In fact, the menu seems to have shrunk. I am not gluten intolerant but trying to cut down carbs. There is very little carb-free on the menu except for cold salads which is not too enticing on a cold winter day. Service seems to be improving with friendly efficient staff. Thank goodness the old smug maitre-D has been gone for a while. This new one is much more pleasant."

  • "This restaurant is a wonderful place to meet friends and connect. Not only is the food and wine imaginative and delightful it is served in a beautiful settng by friendly staff who are happy to let you relax and have long talks with friends. Isn't that what a dining experience is all about!"

  • "I had beef short ribs. The menu description sounded succulent, mouth-watering. The meat was very tender, but lacking in flavour and dry. The accompanying smear of horseradish sauce was uninspired and flavourless, fingerling potatoes were almost hidden under the rib bone. For comfort food, this was over-priced and lacking in flavour. For better comfort food, although a different ambience, try Burgoo. Service was friendly & very attentive, perhaps partly because the place was less than 50% full. A Washington State Cabernet was excellent."

  • "This was our only dine out restuarant that we decided to try out. We were very disappointed with the quality of the food and the service. First we felt that since we were ordering from the dine out menu, we were not treated as well. When the manager had noticed that they served us the wrong meal (from the regular menu I presume) he grabbed our plates and told us there was a mistake. He didn't offer us the option to keep what we had as I am sure they were going to throw out the meals. When the correct dinner did arrive my fish was dry, the orzo was bland and there were no vegetables on the plate. Overall we were very disappointed and it is unlikely that we will ever return."

  • "The quality of the food and the highly attentive service are always consistent at the Shaughnessy. Add to that a bright ambience in a beautiful botanical setting and it is a very hard choice to beat."

  • "Went to DOV at Seasons in the Park at QE last week so it was a direct comparison. Not as good as Seasons - food was not as tasty. There was a hugh spider crawling on the banquette seat ?maybe from the Van Dusen Gardens?. Restaurant interior needs an update. It only has the location going for it."

  • "I chose to try the Dine Out Vancouver dinner menu. From the moment we arrived, we felt rushed even though we were notified that we have 1.5 hours if needed while Dine Out Vancouver is taking place. Our plates were being removed even before we were done eating. Someone was always looming over our table. After we finished our meals we were all of sudden waiting forever to get our bill. Either we were being rushed or made to wait forever. The food was bland. I will not be returning to this restaurant."

  • "Portions were flavorful, but very small; bread was inconsistent - though we asked for it to be served warm, the bread arrived cold; then upon asking for another serving, warm; finally another member had joined our party late and was served cold bread again; The room itself was lovely; however, the green lights outside the window disturbed the sense of being in a garden, which should have been a highlight, and detracted from any ambiance in the dining room. All in all, a disappointing experience."

  • "I have never had a bad meal nor a bad experience at your restaurant. I often take my visitors there because I know they will be pleased. I am part of a group of eight retired gals who celebrate our birthdays over lunch. Seven of the eight pick the Shaughnessy as the location to have our birthday lunches. The location is a perfect and centrally located place to meet. Excellent food, great service, friendly atmosphere, easy parking, on a bus route - what more could a bunch of ol' gals ask for? Well done!"

  • "The food was very good, you wouldn't have known it was a dine-out menu. Great portions and attentive but not intrusive service. A good place for a romantic date, mellow birthday party, or meal with out of town guests."

  • "dine out menu is not a bargain. They have just skimped down on the portion size. You might as well just order from the main menu with more variety and choices. Salmon and scallops on main menu outstanding."

  • "A special celebration for my 2 daughters' birthdays and we had a very nice lunch. Plates were made to order and well done."

  • "We took a co-worker out for a birthday lunch. The food, as always, was superb. Their wild mushroom soup is a favourite and the quiche is always delicious. The service is always top notch and the room is very attractive."
    Dined on 1/22/2014
  • "The ling cod we ordered came in EXTREMELY SMALL portions. We needed a second dinner almost right after we left. The strawberry rhubarb crumble was so sour that I only had two bites and had to give up. Service was so so... not much attention paid to our table. Note we were having the Vancouver Dine Out menu that night."

  • "Shaughnessy Restaurant is my go-to place to meet friends and family, especially when they're from out of town as this venue is set in the spectacular Van Dusen Gardens. Shaughnessy is comfortable, stylish, and welcoming. The food is very good and the service friendly and attentive."
