A suggestion would be to somehow bring down the noise level.

We had to flag someone down to get service. She did apologize because they were busy. We were seated in the second room which was almost empty. The ambiance is lovely of course because the scenery is Van Dusen Gardens
The wooden table appeared clean but it was sticky.
The noise level was find because we were in the second room. The first room which was full, was too noisy to be able to enjoy talking to one another.

Service is generally attentive and the food is tasty and attractively presented. The menu hasn't changed since last year, but they are so good at making what is on the menu that I cannot complain. The food is tasty (although my pork chop could have been juicer, it was slightly dry/tough), sauces and their flavours are done nicely, and we all loved their herb and parmesan pomme frites! They are so good, which we could have had more! The service was also great. Bread was refilled when asked, server gave us the right amount of "breathing space" to enjoy our food. I hate pushy waiters, so he was fantastic. I have not been back since 2001, when I had lunch there with my Mom, who has since passed away. I was celebrating my birthday on May 25th, so I told my husband that I would like to have lunch at Shaughnessy, then walk around the 85 acre garden with our cameras. It was a gorgeous, sunny day, but the treat began with our excellent lunch! While there, we make a point of having lunch with friends at Shaughnessy. The menu is always fresh and varied with something to meet every appetite and taste. We have not been disappointed. While the front host or hostess can appear a bit "stiff", we have always found the wait staff to be friendly, outgoing and accommodating. Did not care for being limited to one menu though, would have liked to have had the option of ordering from restaurant menu. Not much variety on Mother's Day menu for the price. One member of our party ordered coffee but the waitress did not ask if anyone else would like coffee, would have saved her a trip for a second cup!
