Shalimar has been one of my regular places. Whenever I have the urge to have Indian food, it's the place to go. I enjoy their breads and all the dishes. Also, for the thrifty there are always coupons that make it even more affordable.

We go here periodically and always enjoy it. The naan is great and all the entrees have great flavor. I only wish the 'mild' was actually mild on all dishes as some are still too hot for me and there is no way to know which ones or if it's the night's chef.

One of the best restaurants in Louisville! Definitely, the best Indian food I've ever had. Their buffet is amazing and they don't over price. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. I recommend them for any occasion, day and time.

Part of our problem is the lighting is so low, it is almost impossible to read the menu. "Too much ambiance"! The food is superb, my husband and I each choosing something different, and loving both items equally well. There is plenty, as we both took some home. The choices we made were served in bowls separate from the rice. There was not nearly enough rice, and we were charged for more. We only needed one more serving to share between each, so we didn't need THAT much more, so IMO, this is planned by the restaurant to increase income on a meal. Our other problem was with the server. He was extremely tall and had a very soft voice and foreign accent, and neither of us could hear him. We had to ask him to repeat almost everything.

Went here for an Indian fix while in Louisville for a run. Despite being tucked in a strip mall corner, the atmosphere was great and the prices right on. The quality of the food really was fantastic. We did have one new server come through a few times and brought stale chips, but she was quickly replaced by what we assumed to be a manager, who really upped the service factor. After he started waiting on us (his idea btw, we had no idea the chips were stale) we had a great dining experience and would not hesitate to go for another visit.

I never thought I'd find a Chicken Tikka Masala I liked better than the one from my favorite local (KCMO) restaurant. I was wrong. Shalimar has excellent Tikka Masala... and Lamb Saag... and garlic naan. An excellent dining experience. Too bad it is so far from home.

The food was bland. I asked for spicy and had to send it back. When it returned, there was cauliflower in my food (which might I add is NOT part of the original dish). When I tasted it, it seemed as if all they did was throw hot sauce into it, not re-flavor it with masala (spices). Hd ordered a salted lassi and they over did it on the salt. I thought I was drinking ocean water mixed with yogurt. I've been here before and had thoroughly enjoyed my meal. This time I was highly dissatisfied. I'd rather spend $20 on ingredients and make the same meal at home.

The food was excellent and the waitstaff did a good job of being attentive. But we were a party of 5 so we were put in the back room. Next thing we knew a party of about 30 or 40 were seated there, too. It became extremely noisy and not a good atmosphere for dining and visiting with people at our table. Also they brought the wrong meal to one at our table, so by the time they brought the correct dish, we were almost finished eating. There was no apology or any mention of compensation at all, such as a free glass of wine or dessert.

Shalimar was decent, but not great. The prices were reasonable. I had the shrimp biryani. It was 90% rice and was somewhat bland. The menu noted vegetables in the dish, but all I got was onions. Fine place for a midweek dinner, but don’t expect too much.

Excellent food, nice ambiance. Wine list could be better, leaned more towards the sweeter whites. Beer selection is very good. Service was good, but could be a bit better. Hard to get waiter's attention to order another drink. They cleared my dishes, assumed we were done, brought our check though my spouse was still eating his dinner. Other than these minor mishaps, it was a wonderful dining experience.

Shalimar offers a great way for a couple or family to relax and enjoy some great food. The menu is extensive, and the service is first rate. The environment is quiet and not for very small children. It allows the adults to really savor the the experience. An evening at a Shalimar table by candle light is a great first date.

This place is not good for first timers. We are new to Indian food and the staff did nothing more to help than point out the most expensive things on the menu; and they weren't that great. It's definitely not kid friendly either. Mine are not too picky and open to new foods, but wound up with two bowl of expensive chicken broth. The atmosphere was nice and the ambiance was great, but the food and staff are nothing to write home about.

This was my second visit to Shalimar, my co-worker's second, my sister's first, and it won't be the last. Despite the Christmas shopping weekend crowd we were quickly seated (I know that often even with reservations, there can be a backup) and service was impeccable (the only mistake was thinking I asked for ale; I asked for lemonade). Each dish was well-seasoned & enough to share around the table and even then with plenty to take to our individual homes: appetizers Paneer Pakora, Aloo Tikki, Vegetable Samosa and entrees Chicken Tandoori (half a chicken) and Chicken Biryani. We passed on dessert but one day will have to give something a try. Lovely restaurant without the kitsch one gets in many "foreign" restaurants. Finest Indian in town.

The food was very flavorful, and a bit spicy. It was something different, which really pleased me. If you're going to pay for food, why not pay for something different than the norm? If I can get the same food everywhere else (including my own kitchen), I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it. Shalimar offers something that can't be found many other places in Louisville.

I made a reservation online with Open Table for 1:00 on Sunday, May 8 which was Mother's Day, and I received an email confirmation of the reservation. I called the restaurant that morning to ask to add one person to our party (from two to three) since my daughter surprised me by flying in for Mother's Day. On the phone I was told that they did not accept reservations on Mother's Day and that it would be first come, first served. It is a good thing I had to call or I would not have known they were not going to honor my "reservation!" We only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, so it turned out all right.
