The place is good. I was checking out the place during the afternoon when not busy to see if it would be a good place to arrange a private party for my group. Food is good, a bit pricey. I am not sure who the owners are or if they are around but the guys who seemed to be running the place did not seem to fit dress wise the great decor of the place. I still think the place is a good place for young people in town that don't want to travel to Chicago.

My husband and I were looking for a new place to spend an evening out. We went to our favorite suburb - Libertyville, on Open Table and found Shakou Shushi. It far exceeded our expectations! The menu has something for everyone, from sushi fanatics to landlubers. When we saw the hot and cold appetizers along with the soups and salads, we went no further and made our way through those as our meal. The shumai soup was delectable and not salty as others I have had in the past. The mushroom salad came with large sections of mushrooms wine marinated and tossed with a delectable ginger dressing. Cold appetizers of tuna tartar and fresh oysters were phenomenal.  Hot appetizers of orange duck and eggroll are superb. Not to be missed are desserts.

I made my reservation with OpenTable.com for Shakou Sushi for my husband's birthday. I also made a note on my reservation that we were celebrating his birthday. We greatly enjoyed this restaurant. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The service was good; in fact, without saying anything else, our waitress brought out a slice of cake with a candle. The ambiance was excellent - good music and lighting. I'll be going there again!

Walking in its hard to believe that this restaurant is in Libertyville. The decor, atmosphere and energy is more like a club / restaurant in New York or Chicago. Ceiling is two stories up and there are different seating areas - the bar, dining room and upstairs lounge. Service was a little slow to start but then picked up. As expected, there was a vast amount of sushi to pick from but also steaks etc for the non- sushi eaters in the group. Food was good even though my steak came out warm. Looking for a late night place...this is it. Open until 2am Fri & Sat. Not many places you can find open that late in the suburbs!

Great food and ambiance. Wanted to sit upstairs for the view, but low ottoman stools are uncomfortable for long durations. Men were uncomfortable. Even sofa benches had no "back". Have sat at these tables with women many times or just for cocktails, but for dinner it was a problem.

There are some great long time restaurants in Libertyville and more that have joined the scene over the last few years, but none as nice in all aspects as Shakou. You do not need to be a huge sushi lover to enjoy this restaurant. From a great location in Downtown Libertyville, to the outstanding food, to the different seating options of the upstairs lounge, sushi bar, regular bar and main dining, and perhaps the greatest attribute are the owners. Two people that will make you feel right at home!

This was our 4th time visiting Shakou Sushi. The menu is extensive and the the selections varied. The quality of the food has always been outstanding. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu and made some great recommendations. On this visit, during the week, the service was slower than expected. She did not return to provide a second wine order or ask about an additional appetizers we wanted. Please do not let this one incident stop you from visiting and enjoying this neighborhood gem.

Upon entering Shakou, we were immediately made to feel welcome. The ambience was inviting and the service outstanding. I had a combination sashimi dinner with miso soup that was wonderful. The sashimi was very fresh, and the servings were generous. Other members of our party (birthday) that were not into sushi or sashimi, ordered other dishes that they also raved about. This is a great restaurant, and I would recommend it to anybody that likes fine dining at reasonable prices.

Have been to this restaurant MANY times, and have always liked it. Our last experience was less impressive. My egg roll was burnt, our server was "dull" and a poor listener. I am hopeful that this was a singularly bad experience. Please, please, please, Shakou Sushi, don't get sloppy! On a positive note, the General Manager IS very attentive, and today was no exception. I suppose it is our own fault that we did not complain when things were not as we expected, but I'd prefer not to be in that position in the first place.

First visit to Shakou and boy was I impressed. The place looks like someone picked it up from downtown Chicago and dropped it off in Libertyville. The decor and ambiance are like nothing you'll see anywhere else around. For the food, the appetizers all sounded delicious but we ended up getting the bacon wrapped scallops which were amazing, they literally melted in my mouth. The maki rolls we ordered (volcano roll, flaming himachi roll and the black widow) were all very fresh and extremely tasty My personal favorite was the flaming himachi. Can't wait to go back to try some more of the amazing food on the menu.

We went to Shakou for our anniversary. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the staff was welcoming and hospitable. Upon, hearing it was a special occasion, we were asked if we wanted to sit upstairs in the lounge, which I recommend. The ambience was romantic and perfect for a fun night out or special occasion. The food was amazing. Creative and tasty sushi rolls, as well as delicious sashimi. Service was quick. The gm talked to us various times through the night to see how things were. We were surprised by an anniversary dessert in the end. We will definitely go back and have already told many friends about it.

My wife and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary and couldn't of have had a better experience! Would definitely recommend Stefan, he was a great server! And, if any other staff member noticed that we were done with a dish they would remove it from the table. Really enjoyed the ambiance! Met the GM Kevin, great guy! The Sushi was absolutely incredible! Very fresh and had great flavor! The restaurant treated us to a piece of cake for our anniversary! I can see why this restaurant is a top 100 hot spot! Fantastic! When we arrived, the 2 people at the desk wished me a happy birthday, the person who walked us to our seats wished me a happy birthday. Our server did the same as well as the owner later who came up to see us and ask us how things were going. Our server was great, he made amazing drinks! Our food was delicious, and at the very end the owner brought out a chocolate cake with a candle for me! AMAZING dinner and I appreciated it!! LOVE shakou!!
