Seventy Seven Walnut offers seasonal cuisine in an upscale, casual setting. Great low key jazz plays unobtrusively in the background. We always feature Mediterranean inspired fare, using the freshest ingredients that are harmonious with the current season. Executive Chef Daniel Foti delights diners with wonderful
dishes such as a roasted grouper in parchment paper with tomatoes, cremini mushrooms, olives and seasoned with rosemary, and a 5-Spice Pan-Roasted Pork Chop served with sweet & sour cabbage, bacon lardons and potato gratin. There are gluten-free and vegetarian dishes as well.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was excellent -- dishes well-conceived and executed, but the portions were very small. Our party agreed that if we were big eaters we would have still been hungry after 2 appetizers and 2 salads and 4 main courses for 4 people. The lobster roast appetizer is amazing but so little lobster that it was like the actual lobster was just waived over the dish. There was no accompanying veggie or carb with the baked cod - which was also delicious, but just not enough food."

  • "We went on a Friday night. The atmosphere was very energetic and the place seamed almost full. As far as food goes, we started with the lobster appetizer and the duck confit. The confit was ok but a little too salty for my taste. The lobster tasted great but was a very small portion, especially for $16. For entrees we had a swordfish special which was good except the relish on top was a little overpowering. We also had the pork chop which was very good. They were very accommodating in switching the sides on the swordfish so that's a plus. We did have dessert in the form of orangecicle crème brule. this was very good. Overall we were not overly impressed but believe since the place is new it deserves another chance, maybe a new spring menu?"

  • "We really enjoyed our first visit and will return. The setting is lovely, as is the welcoming maître de and service. We shared a special shaved fennel salad with orange segments which was light and flavorful albeit too a SMALL! I had the porkchop- slightly over cooked but delicious. Sides were tasty but also tiny portions. The clam and chorizo stew was good, also on the small side. Homemade cheesecake was lemony and Delish."

  • "This place seemed to be trying real hard to be something it's not. The service and atmosphere were very nice, but the food rated a solid "meh" by both my wife and myself. I had the lobster bisque appetizer which was OK, but nothing special IMO. My wife had the Portobello and onion filo tart. I thought that was very good and my wife agreed. Entrées were the double cut pork chop and cod, both ordered from the regular menu. Although the pork was cooked perfectly medium, it was the toughest piece of meat I've had in a long long time. I literally had to saw through it with a knife and cut it into smallish pieces in order to get it down. Not impressed. My wife's cod was good, but just that. Certainly can't justify the price point for this joint."

  • "A wonderful experience even by Manhattan standards. Atmosphere elegant and subdued. Food not only ingenious in regard to planning (the Potatoes Anna a perfect accompaniment to outstanding pork chop, not to mention the sweet and sour red cabbage), but executed to perfection. Orange creamsicle creme brulee a smash hit at the end. Prices very reasonable for this Manhattan-in-Montclair experience. Altogether a lovely evening."

  • "It was pouring when we arrived and very politely met at the opened door to quickly step in and get out of the rain. The other couple we were meeting arrived early and were already seated...very nice. A lot of places will not sit you until the whole party has arrived. The menu wasn't too big and had a few specials. However, we were totally disappointed that the pate appetizer, which is a regular selection, was sold out at 7:30 on a Saturday evening. And the ravioli special was just a little too chewy. The cod and pork chop on the regular menu were delicious. Our waitress was lovely but forgot to bring out our desserts until we got her attention while she was busy buffing wine glasses. It's definitely worth another try."

  • "Enjoyed a very nice meal and evening on a quiet Monday night at this newly opened BYO restaurant. The dining room is elegantly appointed and warm, the service is precise but convivial and the menu offers enough interesting choices to make the selection of app, entree and dessert difficult, as we wanted to try just about all of them. Food is expertly prepared and presented using high quality ingredients. Montclair has just added another notch to it's culinary belt, we are looking forward to our return to try more of the menu ........."

  • "Of the 5 plates our table had; 2 were very good. The pork chop and risotto were stand outs. Staff was lovely. Food took a very very long time to come and they had 86ed several menu items when we had tried to order them (it was only 830. However, as an apology, they subtracted an entree from the check without our asking Have to appreciate that! Wishing them well."

  • "Food was overall very good though not all the dishes were as hot as I would have liked (it was a very busy Saturday night), but excellent flavor. The host and staff were very friendly and in general a very hospitable atmosphere. We'll definitely be back."

  • "Loved 77 Walnut...food and service both exceptional...beautiful, quiet, quaint atmosphere...we will definitely be back and I am sure we will become regulars...highly recommended! For starters my favorite is the lobster pan, then as another appetizer two of us shared the linguini with lobster and parmagean and butter...delicious...for my main course I tried the Atlantic cod...splendid! For dessert the crème broulet couldn't have been better...can't wait to go back! Thanks again 77 Walnut!"

  • "I am so happy that Seventy Seven Walnut opened in my neighborhood. My family enjoys going out for dinner, and last Saturday we tried this new place and we loved it! Didn't feel like a new place at all. Everyone was so organized and professional. The art work was so unique and beautiful. Fresh cut roses everywhere, and the food.... phenomenal !! You have to try this place. We will go there again very soon."

  • "Cozy ambience, lovely artwork, and exceptional service all underscore the chef's innovative approach to seasonal ingredients. The menu is inspired, and the dishes were exciting and comforting at the same time. The spiedini of mozzarella was a lovely surprise--rich but not too heavy, with a spot-on anchovy-caper sauce. The penne zafferano, with just the right amount of sweet sausage and a sublime saffron cream sauce, was surprisingly light. The pan-roasted salmon with muscadet sauce and braised fennel was heavenly. (I wish I could have taken home a bucket of the sauce and fennel.) The salmon was slightly dry, holding back this review from a full 5 stars. But overall, they hit it out of the park."

  • "We've been to Seventy Seven Walnut twice in the last couple of weeks and were impressed both times. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable and the owner and staff are very welcoming, friendly and knowledgableabout the menu. Every dish we've tried was excellent and these include the Napa cabbage salad, the lobster fettuccini, the grass-fed rib eye steak and the poached pear dessert. The chef manages to balance the elements of the dishes perfectly so that each ingredient shines, even the pasta itself! Nothing is over-dressed or heavily sauced. Prices are reasonable for this BYO and parking is usually available nearby. A great new addition the the Montclair restaurant scene!!"

  • "Only open 3 weeks. We thought it was quite good. Only suggestion would be need specials or more items on the menu, but they probably will after more time."

  • "Among many Montclair resturants, this one left us with a lasting memory of great food, great service and a very gracious host. The food was amazing - try the crispy duck confit ! Delicious! And, follow with the lobster fettuccini. At least this is what I did and it was a delicious choice. I hear the pork chops were also out of this world. Loved the overall feel and look of the place - elegant and romantic, yet unpretentious and inviting. The host and the service staff were very attentive and made us feel as if we just made new friends..... We will definitely go back."

  • "The food was fine - not blow 'em away. But the ambiance was good and the service was terrific. We'll go back because we want local restaurants to stay in business and because they just opened. It was a Saturday night and maybe the kitchen was overwhelmed. They sure deserve another shot."

  • "Great service and food. The menu was innovative if not a little limited but everything we had was perfectly prepared."

  • "This restaurant opened a couple of weeks ago and we decided to give it a try. It was great- very nice servers, pleasant fun space, and great food. We had the duck confit salad, he pork chop, the lobster appetizer, the cod, and the poached pear. All of it was delicious, and they were very accommodating of my husband's pickiness about vegetables. It's great to have another delicious, more upscale restaurant in Montclair. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "We were so excited to see that Seventy Seven Walnut had opened and decided that we would visit during their first week before the snow storm trapped us for a few days (and forgive them if it wasn't perfect yet!) Very warm service from Jessica (and Frank) who helped us narrow down our options - really enjoyed the lobster pasta and salmon entrees and can't wait to return for the pork chop and other recommended items! The eclectic collection of art work and family photos create a warm atmosphere. We will be back - look forward to also trying their Sunday brunch."
