My girlfriend and I went here for a date night. We were greeted promptly by the Maître d and brought to our table by a large window facing the street. We brought our own wine (BYOB) and ordered the PEI Mussels and a salad. Food arrived very quickly and was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs and very helpful in understanding the menu. For the main course I had the Swordfish/Scallops which was wonderful. Add on the fact that the menu changes every month and you can bet that we'll be back!

The food, service and ambiance were fantastic as this relatively new neighborhood BYOB in Montclair, NJ. The dining room decor is sophisticated, warm and inviting. The service was outstanding with just the right level of attentiveness. You feel welcomed from the moment you arrive until you leave. The menu is diverse enough to appeal to everyone, yet concise enough to not be overwhelming. The food was outstanding, using the highest quality ingredients, and presented beautifully. This was my second visit in a few weeks and both experiences were great. I am always looking for excellent BYOB restaurants and this is at the top of the list. Seventy7 is a somewhat undiscovered gem. It's a great place to bring the family, friends or clients. I'm also looking forward to a romantic dinner with my wife in the next couple of weeks. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food, service and space. Try it. I think you will be pleased.

Attractive décor, friendly and efficient service, along with surprisingly good food make this latest iteration of 77 Walnut a real contender on the competitive Montclair restaurant scene. A little pricey and esoteric to qualify as a go to neighborhood restaurant but good for special evenings. Also a little noisy when full - but what isn't

Great food, attentive service and comfortable surroundings combine to make this a fun and enjoyable place to dine. We enjoyed our dinner and had a terrific time. After enjoying a memorable dinner, we were pleasantly surprised at the check which was much lower than we expected it to be. We'll be going back with friends for another great evening.

I took a date there, based on previous reviews. From minute one, we were welcomed warmly. Our hostess was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The ambiance was date-perfect; not too loud, not like a library. The food, from appetizers to entrees, was out of this world. The only thing I wish I'd known prior is that it's BYOB for wine. From start to finish, an incredible experience.

I can't wait to return, the menu changes monthly, so describing what I ate - it may not be there next month. I love it! Mind you the pork chop seems according to the waitress stays, but the sides may be a little different. The crème brulee was tasty, but a bit undercooked for my taste.

Food was good, though service was slow and they were out of several entrees. Great place if you don't mind opening and pouring your own wine or paying a $10 sharing charge for splitting an appetizer salad that actually cost $10.

The location has seen turnover and some previously odd niche restaurants, so we are hoping 77 Walnut is here to stay. The food was very flavorful and well prepared, the room has always be quirky but intimate. The night we were there, they were down a busboy, so the servers were hustling but totally with a great attitude, no feeling of doing us a favor by delivering our requests and filling water glasses. The owner (maitre d' ?) seems genuinely engaged and upbeat which reflects on the staff. Now that Culinariane has left the block for liquor license heaven in Verona, we are hoping 77 will be the neighborhood upscale spot.

Great 1st experience at 77. The food was very tasty.. We had the October menu. Quail appetizer was just ok. I would not get it again but am glad I tried it. nothing out of this world.. but I loved the sides with it.. For the main course I actually had the chicken with chipolte sauce and it was delicious ... my friend had the short ribs and almost licked the plate clean that's how good it was... Dessert was OK... orange creme brulee was tasty but I would prefer a little more creme.. it was pretty thin so all I tasted was the hard sugar top.. The apple pie was decent.. Not too sweet.. I prefer mine a little more tart... The service was excellent and everyone was very nice.

We had a great dining experience at 77 Walnut. The restaurant is magical (great food, great ambiance, great staff, great cello music) just off the main drag in Montclair. The ambiance of this restaurant brought us back to some of our favorite spots in Europe. The menu changes monthly, so just trust that they have your back (and pallet). Prices are very reasonable given the international cuisine and high quality. We have finally found our "home away from home." We look forward to our next visit.

A fantastic meal on a Friday night. This great new restaurant never disappoints me. Now they do a monthly menu which in theory is quite a challenge but the new October menu is just fantastic! We had delectable short ribs that melted off of the bone. The sweet New Zealand cockles were just perfect in the delicious natural broth. A stratiatella soup that is a little different than most. Also we had a lemon sole that was to die for and a lobster risotto that was chock full of lobster! Deserts rocked! Love this months menu and am already anticipating Novembers!

We ate on the 2nd so staff were anxious to hear our feedback on the new menu - for appetizers we loved the mushrooms on crispy polenta with a wonderful smoky grilled flavor. Our entrées: Salmon with apple rosemary puree, spinach and crispy potato was the perfect size and the flavors came together really nicely. Second was Chitarra with spicy shrimp in Arribiata sauce was just the right about of deep spice to it for our liking. Georgia was a great server! On the remaining warm evenings this is a great place to sit outside, but the dining room is lovely with all the great photos and pieces of art.

This restaurant was loud (Saturday night)! I couldn't hear my wife nor the waitress. There were many tables with 4 or more diners and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I would never give a lower rating because of this, but for this alone, I wouldn't return. We each had a salad (none of the appetizers appealed to us) and they were just ordinary. For entrees, my wife had fish that was inedible (overcooked and well past the rubbery stage...) and we stopped afterward so she could have a slice of pizza. I had gnocchi that was excellent, but the sauce was much too salty. Our waitress was very good, but we had to flag her down if we wanted something. There wasn't enough wait staff for the number of diners. We won't return.

The menu reads well. The ingredients seem to blend so well together on paper, but when it was time to make them work on the dish, I was left wanting. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, but not great. When I'm going to pay normal prices, but get tiny portions, I better get some tasty things on my plate. This is where 77 Walnut falls short. Service was slow and poor. Will not be returning.

Really impressed with the flavor of the food and the nice, comfortable atmosphere. Had heard Montclair had some nice restaurants, so on a recent Friday night when we had to meet some folks late at EWR we figured we'd leave NYC, take advantage of good food and byob in Montclair then head to the airport. 77Walnut thoroughly impressed us. Comfortable enviro. Friendly service right at the door. The menu seemed typical American bistro (pork chop, roasted chicken) but I can assure you the flavor was much beyond typical. Clearly some heart went into the cooking. And we got to enjoy one of our favorite wines from home w/o the manhattan sized corkage fee! We'd definitely return.

Food was very good. Bronzino with the black olive risotto was outstanding! Had split a couple Apps, the Lobster Bisque was great but needed to be reheated & the clams had an excellent smokey flavor. My wife had 1/2 order of the special Short Rib Ravioli which was great & 1/2 order of the Lobster Fettuccine Which was a little bland. Overall we really like the place, the owner is very personable & hands on. We'll definitely be back!

It's rare to order and receive Arctic char rare, but it was cooked just the way it's supposed to be. The salads were very fresh. Montclair continues to grow its reputation for classy upscale restaurants in the suburban shadows of NY. Went to 77 Walnut for a spur of the moment dinner. All the food seems to be locally sourced if that's important to you. Had the chicken lime soup and duck breast. The soup was hearty and flavorful but the portion was a tad small. The duck was excellent and the cous cous side was a great complement. The restaurant is BYOB with a liquor store around the block. We sat outdside on a great summer night, so I can't comment on the ambience inside. It's a realatively small and new place. I bumped into the owner at the end and he was kind and gracious.
