Diner Reviews
  • "We had fried chicken at the. Best restaurants in Charleston, and the fried chicken here was by far the best, moist, juicy and leg, thigh were included not just the breast. The fritters with the cheese fondue was wonderful as well as the Brussel sprouts were excellent. The pork belly was outstanding. For desert we had the rice pudding, with just a hint of ginger and cinnamon also the butterscotch pudding both were excellent choices. Our waitress was very attentive and did a wonderful job of taking care of our needs without interruptions. A little gem of a restaurant which I would recommend to friends and family visiting Asheville."

  • "Menu looked unusual, so we decided to give it a try. The place itself is lovely, love the decor. Service was also very good. Only fish choice was cured trout. Only poultry choice was fried. No real salads to speak of. Would add some more healthy choices to the menu. It was good, but lots of other places around that are better. Overall, just okay."

  • "It's not what it sounds like! This stylish and open restaurant is sophisticated in the best possible way. Food was excellent and our knowledgeable and super pleasant server knew all about it. Presentation was elegant. Not a single item on the three small plates we chose was a disappointment. Drinks were good, even tho I am not a bourbon drinker. After dinner coffee came as individual mini-French press. We were there early for a special occasion and expect it might get a bit noisy when busy - I don't know a restaurant in A'ville that isn't! This is definitely a good addition to our dining scene and we will be back."

  • "I had an Old Fashioned and the lamb chops. Yum!!!! All items were well executed. Service was fantastic. I'll definitely go back and recommend that my friends join me."

  • "We had a great table near the window which is good for my husband as he can't hear as well as he might like. Food was great."

  • "We'd heard great things about this place from fellow foodies and it didn't disappoint. Great house-made charcuterie, fried chicken, and much more on the menu...plus, a very strong bourbon list (try the flight)! Highly-recommended."

  • "Started with the hush puppies .... great, next had the 6 hour ragu... wonderful, the gnocchi were perfect, next came the pork chop and I really enjoyed it."

  • "Bourbon and pork, you can't get much more southern than that. Our meal was creative and filled with southern wholesomeness. The fried chicken was juicy and the accompanying mac n cheese had me weak in the knees. The pork chop was decadent and perched atop the best grits I have ever eaten. The hushpuppies with pimento cheese sauce were the perfect start to our meal. I look forward to returning to Seven Sows to try more menu options."

  • "We stopped here on our way to Florida from Philly. My husband was literally knocked over by the charcuterie. The cocktails were also incredibly balanced!"

  • "Good food, good service, something different! Awesome experience and we will be back!"

  • "Good food. Especially enjoyed the pimento cheese fondue, and the mussels. But, the most notable part about our dining was the bourbon selection. I'd come again for the small bites, and to sit back and sip on some truly enjoyable drinks."

  • "Dined here on 2 occasions and will keep going back. Everything is good, especially the cocktails. Not a straight Bourbon drinker but the Bourbon cocktails are divine. My go-to app is the chicken livers and the hush puppies are a must. Ask for a booth for a cozier feel...especially one out of the way of the door. It can get a little chilly with people coming in and out."

  • "The best steak I ve ever had, it melted in my mounth, but I can't give a five stars to the restaurant because we had to wait for 30 minutes even though we had a reservation!"

  • "Had reservations for 2. Arrived 15 minutes early on a Saturday night. Sat at bar and ordered a cocktail for myself and my date. At 10 and 14 respectively, I'd expect a full drink. We were seated appetizers arrived quickly then waited well over an hour without our entree after finishing appetizers and another round of drinks. The food was good, however the restaurant wasn't even 50% full and shouldn't have taken so long."

  • "Got a last minute reservation and found this gem. Food and bar drinks excellent! Some of the best fried chicken and mac and cheese ever! Easy to find-a few doors up from Wicked Weed. The restaurant name is too long and weird-hard to remember. But the restaurant is easy to remember. Loved it!"

  • "Top notch meal! From the classic cocktails, oysters to start and wonderful entrees...everything right on point! I had two small plates, the beet and farro salad and the rib eye tartare...both presented beautifully and tasting delicious. My husband had the diver scallops and was very satisfied. Beautiful sear on huge scallops...very nice presentation with great flavors. Menu is small, which we liked. It covers all the bases though. Desserts were beautifully plated and very tasty. Kathryn was our server and she was very personable, friendly and knowledgeable. Joy, the house manager also worked her way through the restaurant. We felt very well taken care of. Definitely will be back!"

  • "The longest bourbon/whiskey list i have ever seen. Great food, great atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and otherwise just a great place to eat. I like the idea of high end southern small plates. I had their pork cheek, and hushpuppies, both were outstanding, I also feel like their tap selection deserves and honerable mention. Only 5-6 taps, but great beer. I would recommend this for foodies, bourbon enthusiast, people who enjoy good southern food, or too anyone who wants a fancy bite to eat and a good drink!"

  • "Katie our waitress was perfect. Made great recommendations, wasn't breathing down our neck. Started off with fabulous cocktails, Tobacco Road was just sublime! We had the scallops with calamari, nicely prepared, not to large and an amazing pork chop! Desert was a butterscotch brownie that I could have made at home, so not that exceptional. The only down side, reservation was for 7pm and we didn't get seated until 7:30."

  • "This place is with out a doubt the best place in Asheville. My wife and I went for Restaurant week and ate a dozen places over our vacation and this one was the best of ALL we ate in Asheville. The food was amazing, drinks, you name it."

  • "Food and drinks were great. We stopped in before a show at the orange peel with a large group and had an awesome time. Service was wonderful."

  • "Crazy name, but the food and service are unparalleled. Quantities just right. Vast variety of bourbons, but next time I'll steer clear of the tasting--4 smallish sips of okay stuff but overpriced."

  • "We stuck with just small plates. We started with the arugula salad and brussel sprouts followed by the short ribs and a NC black bass. The arugula salad was tart which contrasted nicely with the brussel sprouts. From there the bass and short ribs pleased our palates. There is a nice cocktail and wine list, though the list of wines-by-the-glass was rather limited. Our server, Katherine, was very good. We forgot a cell phone in our booth and when we realized it and started back, we saw Katherine heading over to return it. This was on a night with temperatures in the single digits, and she was not wearing a jacket. We will definitely plan a return visit."

  • "This is the second time I've been to Seven Sows and it was a great experience. The food was very good, but the drinks were over the top. Some of the best I've had in town. Also, I watress was wonderful and very knowledgable. I like the look and feel of the resturant, but I'm not crazy about the chairs, which are very uncomfortable. Also, I sat in a booth the last time I was there and those were not every comfortable as well. It's hard to relax at first."

  • "As a local, we are spoiled with the restaurant scene here in Asheville. This place consistently stands out with their creative and unique twists on southern dishes. Great bourbon list too!"

  • "Seven Sows Bourbon and Larder is a fantastic restaurant. Our waitress, Joy, was the epitome of a great server. Gracious and knowledgeable about food and wine she helped us immeasurably with our selections and then let us enjoy. The food is out of this world, cooked to perfection and plated with artistic skill. The menu is varied so there's something to tempt even the finickiest eater. We will definitely be frequent diners at this wonderful restaurant."

  • "While our dinner and service was very good, the menu offerings were limited. This worked for us, but not for families. Not much offered that was kid friendly or diet friendly. Not an issue for us, but could be for others. The bourbon selection was excellent."

  • "We were a bit early for our reservation so we found a place at the bar. They had a nice but small selection of draft beers for me and plenty of bourbons for my wife to her whiskey sour. We ordered the hush puppies with hot pimento cheese as an app and it was great. We shared the Cobb salad. She had the buttermilk fried chicken which was awesome. I had the diver scallops and they were excellent. Sorry to say we were so full from dinner there was no room for dessert.....maybe next time. Go you will not be disappointed."

  • "Had been here a couple of other times and it had been good. But we returned for the New Years Eve prix fixe - they outdid themselves. Spectacular, well crafted and surprising. Can't wait to come back. Don't miss the bourbon cocktails - they're great."

  • "Food was terrific. Drink menu was even better. Great list of bourbons. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of food."

  • "We very much liked the atmosphere, which was a neat mix of urban industrial and rural - common to the farm to table scene that everyone in Asheville promotes. We were surprised to find the restaurant mostly empty at 6 p.m. on NYE, although perhaps that was still a little early for dinner for most people. We were only there that early because it was the only reservation available that fit our timeline for the rest of the evening. We were taken to a table immediately, yet still had to wait at least 15 min before the server even spoke to us. At first I appreciated the chance to look over the drink menu before being asked to order, but that was quite excessive, especially when I saw the server standing around that entire time."

  • "Great food, great service. Slow kitchen.......We were having a good time with friends so we didn't notice as much, but the food took a really long time to come out."

  • "I had the prime rib and my wife had the fried chicken. Both were perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. Had enough portions to take home and enjoy again. Also tried the hush puppies with hot pimento cheese and purple potatoes with a cream sauce. Everything was great, came out on time and the staff was friendly and accommodating."

  • "My husband and I just loved this place. Started with the Cobb salad split 2 ways- just enough- and the bourbon flite. I went with the "Brussels", which is really a small plate of potatoes, brussel sprouts, soft boiled egg and bacon. Really fabulous! He went with the divers scallops, which was lovely and savory. We will definitely be going back."

  • "Nice restaurant in Asheville. Food good and reasonable. We were there on a Thursday which is oysters on half shell bargain day--a half dozen for $5.00, Very good oysters!!"
    Dined on 12/26/2013
  • "Overall our meal (for four) was great, especially my steak, which was perfectly cooked. The small plates and sides were creative, the brussel sprout dish delicious. The portions were more than ample. The only complaint was the wait for an initial server (not a major problem, just a tad annoying). Aside from that the service was attentive without being intrusive, and our waitress' suggestions were appreciated. For a dedicated carnivore like me the menu was fine but a few more dishes for vegetarians might attract a wider clientel. Definitely worth a return visit."

  • "On this visit we had hush puppy appetizer, fired chicken, scallops and gnocchi . All were well prepared, attractively presented with a fine mix of flavors on the plate. Scallops were perfectly seared. Gnocchi was tasty and delicate for a potato based dish. Chicken was crispy and mac cheese had nice little kick. Deserts were lovely-- Creme brûlée and butterscotch pudding were accompanied by complimentary sweet amuses that added to flavors. Service was attentive and timely. Portions are moderate and could leave a teenager hungry."
