A word from Sette Osteria
Sette is Italian for seven, the traditional "lucky" number. The restaurant design is comfortable with a traditional Italian tone, and with a great "feel and flow." Sette Osteria is a destination place for people as well as a place for people walking in the area to come in and enjoy.

r />Decor: Sette Osteria has an open kitchen and an action station viewable by guests. Pizzas are cooked in a wood-burning pizza oven.

The best decor in a restaurant is people. Windows give guests a view of the active passing scenes on busy Connecticut Avenue and R Streets. And, people walking by are able to view a very inviting and appealing restaurant. The decor is soft and appealing but still carries a theme of sophisticated Italian culture and international buzz. Guests can view the young people going in and out of the chic clothing stores Benetton and Sisley.

Diner Reviews
  • "I booked Sette Osteria based on a recommendation from a friend of mine to celebrate my wife's birthday and our upcoming anniversary. Not only was the food delicious, but the manager was fantastic. The manager made sure that we had a nice table outside, brought us champagne with dessert and even comped their delicious dessert as a nice touch to the end of a wonderful meal. I had the skirt steak with truffled french fries and arugula salad. The steak was cooked perfectly. My wife had the ahi tuna which, again, was cooked perfectly. We highly recommend Sette. The food was moderately priced, and the friendliness of the manager and staff can't be beat. Thank you so much for making my wife's birthday so special."

  • "We celebrated my kid's birthday here while we were in town for the 4th of July. They were very accommodating, even when we changed our reservation time ( we really didn't need reservations). They also brought out a dessert with a candle without being asked. The food was great, especially for someone gluten free. We had pizza, pasta and salads. Must try: white chocolate mousse."

  • "The food is true, fresh, varied Italian; no heavy red ketchup sauces here. The dining outside is pleasant urban under large umbrellas; lots of people to watch. The dining inside includes seating at a bar, comfortable tables, and large windows to open up the space. Nice wine list with things you won't find easily elsewhere. The prices are reasonable. Overall, it all fits together in the best way, the sum is greater than any of its parts."

  • "We were amazed at the quality of the home made pasta we had at this restaurant. May have been the best we have ever had, and we dine out very often. Great outdoor seating. Service was exceptional. Wished I lived in the area as we would be visiting them on a regular basis."

  • "We've been going to Sette for years, we love it especially in summer when we can sit on the terrace and enjoy the weather. The food is never disappointing, always yummy and satisfying, without being overwhelming."

  • "There were 2 other people seated at the bar when we arrived so we opted to sit there and watch some World Cup. It took 10 minutes before we were able to flag the bar back down to ask for a glass of water. The bartender then rushed us through our order and asked if we wanted it to go even though we were clearly seated and wanted to eat there. After the food finally got there, we had to ask for bread. Not once did he ask if we were ok. I have been there many times and I was appalled. I would have liked to have stayed for more drinks and even dessert but I refused to waste another dollar of mine on such pathetic service."

  • "Nice "people watching" outdoor dining. Wait staff was friendly & attentive, service was good, and food excellent.Indoor bar area would have been very noisy, but this was a Friday night. As rain storm approached, staff assisted diners to relocate indoors, very easily. We would return and will recommend to others."

  • "Finding a suitable restaurant that can accommodate large groups and has something for everyone is difficult. Sette Osteria is a great spot when hosting a large conference with internationals."

  • "Sette never fails to meet your expectations. I always bring my friends from out of town to Sette. I want them to experience its ambience and relaxing nature in the midst of the hustle and bustle of their conference or meeting. They are always delighted that such a place exists in DC. When you say "Buon Appetito" in Sette, we usually have one! "

  • "The food was "reliably" good, not fantastic; but each of us enjoyed our meals (canneloni, alfredo, bolognese and a special) and our server was friendly and helpful (thought not terribly sophisticated and not quite sufficiently attentive). "

  • "Looked up this place and it had great reviews. It was exactly what we needed it for. Good food, good portions, a good atmosphere. Very nice. "

  • "We picked the location as it had a good bottomless option and a great patio. The food was fine and the management was friendly and helpful; our waitress on the other hand completely and totally ruined our experience. She was 100% rude from the beginning of service and wanted us to be done as soon as our entrees were cleared. However four of the six of us were partaking in bottomless drinks and, as we had only been there about 90 minutes, we wanted to stay longer. While we sat with our water and drink glasses empty I finally asked a manager to assist us which she did with a smile. However that then made our waitress even more rude as she stormed over to our table and glared at us and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. "

  • "We eat here often and always have a great experience! The lasagna is amazing, the salmon is great, the calzones are gigantic and tasty! The outdoor patio is lovely. I love the olive oil at each table. It's not your every day EVOO! "

  • "Sitting on the patio and enjoying the view and people was like an Italian movie. The service was attentive and not overbearing. The server knew we were not in a rush and was kind enough to give us time and gave excellent service. Food was sent out quickly and fresh. Everything was delightful. Go and enjoy. "

  • "For those who miss European dining al fresco -- with its sit-anywhere seating, friendly but unobtrusive seating, and excellent simple food -- Sette Osteria is a find."

  • "Staff were attentive and friendly. Although the restaurant had a corkage fee, since Open Table reported that there was no corkage fee, the restaurant honored it. Earned my repeat business. "

  • "Service was not that good we had to get up and ask for coffee, water, condiments on several different occasions. Waiters constantly reaching across you, which I understand when you have a large party in a crowded restaurant but not the first seating and a party of four. Bottomless balinii is not all that great if you have to get up and ask for one every time. Food was good. "

  • "On our Wash DC visit I was not sure of where to dine. I tried Zagat listing but found Sette Osteria in my Westin Hotel listing of suggested restaurants. A great menu with classic Italian, very nice specials and reasonable prices. Local and friendly atmosphere with great service. We enjoyed our meal so much we return the following night and enjoyed another great meal. "

  • "Sette is where I always ask to go on my birthday, and occasionally a happy hour with a dear friend who used to live in Europe for many years, but since I have been doing consulting nearby, it's also where I've been meeting people for lunch. On this last trip, my former colleagues and I split a spinach salad and the four cheeses pizza (adding arugula to it). She also took home an order of tiramisu for her husband, who is very fond of their food as well. Recently the menu has expanded but still the same wonderful food and atmosphere. "

  • "A friend recommended Sette osteria, and it turned out to be wonderful recommendation. The food was delicious. The prices reasonable, and the service friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the perfectly prepared and generous portion of Calamari. The Caesar Salad was uniquely and attractively presented with a delicious dressing. The cavatelli (sausage, peccorino, rapini) and gnocchi (tomato, fresh basil, buffalo mozzarella) is delicious! Tiramisu is the perfect ending to the meal."

  • "I took my girlfriend to Sette Osteria for her birthday, it was perfect. The outside seating is nice --- it is in the city, so the street noise is the ambiance for outside. The food was delicious and the right price, as was the wine. The bartender came over to discuss several different wines that made sense for our occasion. 5/5 will eat there again."

  • "My friends and I went here for brunch over the weekend, the weather was really nice, so we sat outside on their patio. Food was great, and a plus that they had bottomless drinks! Although, I do have to say, we shouldn't have to keep asking for them to re-fill our glasses if we have bottomless..."

  • "If you enjoy inventive Italian presented in a beautiful way, Sette Osteria will please. We sat outside near a heater ( which they fussed with for a long time to get going). The service was attentive but we told theme we wanted to linger and we never felt rushed."

  • "Have been to Sette several times in the last year and consistently get very tasty food from salad to pasta to pizza. The service is a little bit slow and it does get crowded but they do a good job overall and there's some great outdoor seating when the weather's good."

  • "I went for brunch to Sette Osteria this weekend. Had never been there before so I was not sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by excellent service and great brunch fare. I really enjoyed it. The went in when they opened around 11am and it was pretty empty but 30 minutes in it was bustling with people. In addition, the place is very open and you have a great view of the surrounding DuPont circle area. Really enjoyed it and will definitely check it out again."

  • "I had dinner here the night before my first half marathon (I wanted to carbo-load on pasta!) The food was excellent. Our waiter recommended the basil-pasta, which was a homemade basil-infused pasta, served with tomatoes, eggplant and onion. It was delicious. Their calamari appetizer is also very good. I also tried some of their gelato dessert - I especially loved the vanilla flavor! We went pretty early, but this place gets busy, so it is a good idea to make a reservation. Also, the location near Dupont circle is very convenient."

  • "I went out to eat here the night before I ran my first half-marathon to carbo-load. The food was delicious, and our waiter was excellent. He recommended the Basil-pasta (homemade), and it was yummy, filling, yet also light. I also split the calamari appetizer and bruchetta plate, which were also delicious. I finished the meal with the gelato trio, which was a great ending to the meal. This restaurant had ample outdoor seating and is very close to the Dupont circle metro stop."

  • "We sat outside for brunch on a lovely spring day. The waitstaff was extremely slow to take our orders, even though the restaurant was largely empty. We ordered multiple bloody Marys throughout the meal and there was a very wide range of results. The first Bloody Marys to arrive were very small and somewhat watered down. As the meal progressed, the drinks got bigger and bigger until they were fullsized. The food was fine but nothing to write home about."

  • "Food and waitress were great. But my gf and I were basically being run over by patrons and other servers because they over-packed the floor. Better spacing would have made this a solid four star rating, and I'm sure it is at least that in the Spring and Summer when you can seat people outside."

  • "First time visit - service, food, and ambience were just OK. Service was slow. Food was quick but arrived cold - including eggs and toast. - no butter, no jam for the toast either. When we finally tracked down the waitrress, she seemed annyoed to have to heat the toast and bring butter and jam. Wow .... A real let down. Very kid friendly - if that's what you want. Otherwise, pick another location. Therestaurant was not full so could have been relocated to another table if the waitress ever showed up. Get the impression that no on really cared whether food, service or ambience were good. Guess they'll get business regardless because of location but not from me. Don't think I'd to out of my way to go to Sette Osteria again. Sorry."
