  • "The restaurant is SMALL-and it says on the menu to keep noise to a minimum to not disturb other guests. It's BYO, but go to 56-Degrees around the corner for a great wine recommendation. The short ribs were excellent, and the gnocchi was delish!! As soon as we walked in the restaurant, we were greeted with handshakes and introductions from the manager. Loved that extra touch. "

  • "My first experience was so-so, but the owner asked me to come again and give them another chance. I went for lunch with friends and found the food to be delicious! I had the caprese salad which was delicious and made with white balsamic (I think) which gave it a bit of a sweet flavor. The greens were fresh and mild. I had the rigatoni with Pancetta which was cooked to al dente perfection with just a bit of spice. The pancetta added a nice depth to the flavor of the dish. Plenty of food for lunch. I shall return! We had opentable reservations for lunch but there was plenty of room for walk-ins."

  • "Great find. Really enjoyed this restaurant. We came for lunch and found an extensive menu, great service, ambiance and delicious food. The owner, Alan, came out several times to check on us and also provided us with an exquisite amuse bouche. We began with the bruschetta. I also ordered the antipasto and the special entree; snapper. It's a light crowd for lunch but I am told it can get quite busy in the evenings. Will definitely be back soon."

  • "We met the owner of Sette, Alan, at his family's restaurant in Somerville, and decided we had to try it. We came one weekend alone, and we came back the next with friends. The food here is terrific -- really good -- the burrata is amazing; the all-cheese gnocchi is the best I've had of its kind, the short ribs were a particular favorite at our table, and the fish was superb. There was just nothing not terrific about both of our meals here. Service was great; Alan and team do a classy job. We treated ourselves to a drink first at the Bernard's Inn (another local favorite) and everything was just about perfect."

  • "Bruschetta was toasty/chewy and the basil and tomato had great flavor. For appetizers we had a special, the asparagus fritters, and the shrimp (off the menu). The asparagus fritters were tasty -- maybe just a bit too much fritter for me. The shrimp was disappointing. It was served with cabbage in a cream sauce -- just lacked much flavor. We shared a risotto with asparagus for the next course which was good but nothing particularly memorable. Main course was filet with peppercorn sauce (steak had a heavy rosemary flavor; a bit tough). Other main course was a special, cod simmered with onions. Completely flavorless and cod seemed overcooked. Very disappointing. I'd try again for lunch but dinner was about $140 including tip and no dessert."

  • "The excellent and good service at this small venue were made difficult by other patrons who were speaking at the top of their voices. Why do people in this country find it necessary to speak so loudly in restaurants? At one point I wished we were in the Sistine Chapel where there is a constant "shhhhhhh" quieting the noisy crowd. Sette has excellent food, a caring owner-maître 'd and courteous service, but the noise level interferes with what ought to be a pleasant and genteel evening. Nevertheless, we'll return."

  • "We've had more dinner guests in our home than Sette has in its eight table establishment on a given night, so perhaps you can understand when I say that Alan Russo makes one feel at home, only better. I love to cook, but can't do it better than Sette does. When we want classy, but relaxed Sette is where we head. In fact, if I were to make any suggestion for a place this small (which is a large part of why I like it) it would be to do away with the menu and just offer a couple of specials each night. Sette, it's like having a private chef in your home, but you don't have to clean up afterwards."

  • "Our second visit to Sette. It is one of my favorite places to sit and dine. The ambiance is just wonderful, the lighting, the walls, the floor, the soft appropriate music, attentive but unobtrusive service. We sat by the window but you could barely hear the whoosh of cars going by on Rt. 202 through the heart of Bernardsville. I had the stuffed pork loin with Marsala and mushroom sauce. It was FANTASTIC. Perfect marriage of flavors. My wife had the home made fettuccine with shrimp. I finished it off (as usual!) and enjoyed every morsel. The hot rolls with herb-laced EVOO are as good as any. Sette just keeps getting better and I look forward to our next visit."

  • "I have previous been to Sette for both lunch and dinner. Their service is superb. They are extremely attentive to your needs. The food is even better and the menu they provide has enough choices to choose from. The small size of the dining area make Sette perfect for a small business luncheon with a few colleagues or a romantic dinner with your spouse. You do not feel as though you need to to raise your voice in order to have a conversation at your table. I most definitely would recommend Sette to a friend and I certainly would return again for lunch or diner."

  • "Our first visit to Sette in Bernardsville was generally positive. Food was outstanding in several ways. Variety was excellent, presentation was wonderful, and portions quite generous. Pricing was very good for the high quality of food presented. The issue was the extremely slow service. It took 2.25 hours to have appetizer and main course and cappuccino. By the time we left, we felt we had been there too long. The restaurant is quite small and charming....seating less than thirty. Perhaps the owners feel that this amount of time shows the special care and attention......it simply seemed too slow."

  • "I thought a small venue would be intimate, but on the contrary, the tables were very close and there was no discernible background music so you could here everything. Also it happened that there were 3 tables of larger parties which were not quiet. Other than that the place was nice. The food was very good, but of course pricey. We did enjoy everything we had, and the fact that we did not have to pay for overpriced wine was a big plus."

  • "Nestled next to a small-town movie theater, Sette is a hidden gem. The service was attentive but not overbearing, and the food was very nicely done. The butternut squash soup was rich and silky and the mushroom "quiche" appetizer was out of this world, skip the sausage appetizer...good, but fairly basic. The monkfish dish was excellent, as was the pork saltimbocca."
