Diner Reviews
  • "I've eaten here twice now and every single dish I have eaten here has been amazing. I love this place."

  • "This is an excellent restaurant and a very excellent addition to Philadelphia."

  • "Food was terrific! A bit on the pricey side when you include alcohol, but worth it for a special occasion."

  • "The menu is full of creative/unusual combinations of familiar ingredients, almost all of which worked extremely well. We were 5 people and made the mistake of ordering "conventionally". -- 2 of us shared a couple of small plates, 1 of us ordered his own 2 things and the other 2 of us shared a few things, some of which overlapped with the others. We should have ordered 10 - 12 things and each had a bite or 2 of everything. For our next visit, we're definitely planning time for 11 course Chef's Tasting Menu!"

  • "I absolutely loved this restaurant. The pork kimchi stew and duck breast dishes were phenomenal. We also loved the himachi cobia tartare."

  • "I must preface my review by stating that the food was fantastic. The decor was incredible. My friend and I were blown away! The most amazing aspect of our evening, however, was the staff. We had a server who was the star of the show. Regrettably, I can not remember her name. She was tall and slim with dark hair. My friend and I arrived after nine on a rainy Monday thirty minutes late for our reservation. This girl treated us with such caring and grace. Her menu knowledge was top-notch. My cocktail (the lydia deetz) was the best cocktail I have ever had in my life. In my opinion, amazing food and beautiful spaces are par for the course in Philadelphia. The things that are memorable are special are the amazing staff members."

  • "Serpico was great! We loved the variety of choices, some adventurous, some not. The food was fantastic and the wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Well done!"

  • "This is our 4th time at Serpico and each time has been wonderful. The service is exceptional including giving us great suggestions on wines. We finally got to take our daughter and son-in-law, who is an exceptional cook and are both frequent restaurant goers. They loved everything. My husband has the vegetable plate each time we go! He loves it so much, he's not willing to get something else. We will continue to have Serpico as one of our go-to restaurants."

  • "Serpico has a large, open kitchen, bordered on two sides by the chef's counter. This means a lot of counter seating, which I'm a big fan of. The 11-course tasting menu was, overall, a really solid meal. Highlights included a steamed egg custard (like a modernized version of chawanmushi), a turnip cake topped with duck pate, a mushroom and yuzu dish, and pork and kimchi ramen. The consomme broth in the ramen was outstanding, as were the shots of consomme served with the potato chips and oxtail. Desserts fell a little flat for me, partially because they felt like lazily executed homages to David Chang. Peter Serpico's talent should be able to turn out something more unique than that. Service was fantastic, and cocktails were delicious."

  • "I selected the restaurant based on the reviews and the pictures I saw online. Wow totally pleased. We took seats and what night be called the expanded chef's table and enjoyed watching the movement of the kitchen staff as they prepared everyone's food. We enjoyed our starters so much we ordered a few more and compared notes with the couple next to us on additional selections. We loved the food. Creative, very flavorful, unique things you would expect presented in a artist's fashion. Everyone was friendly andvery knowledgeable about the menu. Really the perfect meal for the our date night, just what we were looking for."

  • "This meal started off great but the necessary progression was not fulfilled. The raw scallop & chicken liver mousse made for a fantastic first course. The raw scallop may be the most impressive flavor combination I've had in 2014. 2nd course was the fried duck leg & the pho sandwich both were quite good, though the pho sandwich had a bit more kick than some people may like. Then came the 3rd course, supposedly a culmination of a great meal. We got the Korean fried wings & the short rib. The wings are very overrated, they are essentially a more sweet than spicy fried wing and they are super sticky and messy. The short rib fell flat too, particularly because of a sauce that was just too salty and off putting."

  • "The positives: I loved the atmosphere! From the exterior the restaurant is almost invisible, understated. It's a classy/casual, young/sophisticated vibe. Chefs table looked really fun. Decor and service were great. The OK: the beer selection was minimal, but my date loved the 3 he tried. I opted for wine; wish there were more by-the-glass options. I also wish there had been more room between the tables. The food: my date and I both ordered the 12-course specialty menu. It was just OK. Some earlier courses and one dessert was sub-par. The other 7-8 courses were good but not extraordinary. The 3 savory meat dishes were very good! The final dessert was delicious. For a unique dining experience that is both fancy and fun, give Serpico a shot."

  • "From the second we walked in, the experience was great! Definitely going back."

  • "This is the best dining experience I've had in a long time. It starts and ends with the food of course: we had the tasting menu, which was a brilliant balance of creativity, playfulness, craftsmanship, and deliciousness. Yes-- everything was DELICIOUS (the fried oxtail and the steamed egg custard were highlights among highlights.) The rest of the experience was just as wonderful: the staff was excellent-- friendly, knowledgable, & helpful, but not pushy. The atmosphere managed to feel both relaxed and highly organized at the same time. The music selection was great, yet the noise level was fine for normal conversation. I could go on about every detail-- it all worked. Serpico-- thanks for one of the most enjoyable meals of my life!"

  • "Serpico is an welcome oasis among the tacky bars/restaurants and shops on South Street. Just walking in, the decor is very calming after spending a lot of time finding somewhere to park the car. But the food was wonderful, as was the service. Menu is somewhat limited but we found plenty of things we could have chosen and were very happy with the restaurant fave ravioli, the duck breast and short ribs. Burnt apple tart followed. Great flavors. Definitely would return although the traffic in that area is horrendous and impossible to find street parking. Ended up in a garage on 3rd and South which charged $25!!! I heard the restaurant working on this, so perhaps valet parking or some kind of discount at the parking garage on 3rd?"

  • "Drinks and food were amazing, service and counter seats watching the cheffy stuff was even better. The bartender provided specialized service and great drinks, on and off the menu. Food was inventive, beautiful and most importantly very tasty. We got the tasting menu. The only thing I would not recommend is the drink pairing for tasting menu, was very one note, all white wine and sake. Eh. Loved the place, will tell everyone and will be back."

  • "Loved Serpico, went there on our anniversary. The food was interesting and intelligently prepared (even the cocktails were well put together). Service was great, our waiter knew the wine list and menu well - even brought us some Brut for our anniversary. I appreciated the thoughtful menu, with meat, fish and vegetable dishes with perfect portion sizes so I could try a few different dishes. You could definitely bring a child here, but they need to have a good palate as there was nothing boring on this menu! There is a place to sit and watch the food preparation - I'll definitely be sitting there next time."

  • "The menu was great- I'd recommend the scallops! The atmosphere was kind of weird. The place looks more like a diner but the menu was higher end. It just felt odd sitting at a food counter while paying $30 for a plate, but that's just me!"

  • "Well-executed, creative dishes. Maybe a little pricey compared to comparable meals elsewhere in the city. Also, the wine glasses don't have stems."

  • "The food is very disappointing and extremely expensive."

  • "Loved the decor and the server we had was really friendly and great!!! Good was different good combinations but delicious none the less!!"

  • "The food was excellent. The dish sizes were not too small. Our favorites were the ox tail soup, chilled dashi soup (was the prettiest dish ever), crispy duck leg, and yuzu curd. I would go back just to have the yuzu curd again."

  • "Food absolutely creative and delicious been a number of times every time love it. Like small and medium plates it's great no corkage fee. Love the chef"

  • "We waited for months to try Serpico. When we finally did we were extremely disappointed with our server who seemed miserable and food that was very average."

  • "Innovative cuisine without being fussy or trendy. Excellent service."

  • "The food was inventive and very tasty. The small plates were by far better than the large plates, though. The tartare, duck, and ravioli were especially delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful."

  • "Booked an early slot and were seated at the chefs table, basically a large bar area around he kitchen, highly recommended. Ended up getting the tasting menu for 85, which was very much worth it; 10 fantastic dishes which are not on the menu! Great serving staff!"

  • "Really adventurous and beautiful food. Everything we had was amazing. Cannot wait to go back."
    Dined on 6/2/2014
  • "This is a decent restaurant with some good food. It is difficult to get to and from on a Saturday night on a very crowded South Street. Some have found the decor "very cool", but I found it merely cold like a barn painted black. It is rather expensive."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "The starters were really good and the meat, but the Trout were really disapointing! Three of is ate it, no one was happy with it. Avoid!"
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "We have been to Serpico numerous times. This one was a disappointment. The meats (beef and lamb) were tough and over salted, not the usual creative light touch. We assume it was just an off night and will go back,"
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "On my recent visit to Serpico, the kitchen was in top form, offering a wide selection of dishes, many seasonal, all superbly cooked. I especially enjoyed the dishes offered as specials - including a dish with ramps, one with asparagus, and a large fried maitake mushroom with sevaral sauces."
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "Throwing as many ingredients as possible in a dish does not always make it better. Also, portions are on the small side. If you are a big eater have a snack before you go."
    Dined on 5/29/2014
  • "Upon arriving to the restaurant, my wife and I were a little concerned... The front of the building is painted dark grey and has only one small window that is mostly covered by liquor bottles. Once we were inside, the whole vibe changed. The place is very hip and has a high energy feel. The wait staff is very cool as well. The menu has plenty of choices for everyone to enjoy providing you are a "foodie" This is not the place to take some one who is afraid to try some new things. We plan on going back with some friends. I would definitely recommend a visit."

  • "The food was spectacular. We had a table of 4, ordering 2-3 dishes a person. We were all amazed. We couldn't decide on a favorite dish, and had to settle for a top 6. Thanks Serpico."

  • "My fiance and I went to Serpico for his birthday two nights ago. We had the 10 course tasting menu, which had similar elements to many of the a la carte dishes, but they were entirely different. Everything was delicious, and it was fun to watch our dishes being prepared and to interact with the kitchen staff. Our favorite dishes were an egg custard dish and a smoked cobia dish. The maple ice cream and oolong tea dessert was also stand-out. The cocktails were incredible! The Lydia Deeta was my favorite, and my fiance enjoyed the Cucuy (but did note some significant variability from order to order of the same drink). We asked for a copy of the tasting menu items, but unfortunately we never got the email. Would definitely go back!"
