The food, decor, and staff were all excellent. The bartender and hostess were friendly and outgoing and I received an amazing martini before dinner. We sat at the counter and were served by a knowledgable, helpful, and fun member of staff. The line cooks were very happy to interact with us about presentation and technique. I had a great experience in a very attractive restaurant. The GM even checked with us twice on how our experience was progressing and gave me some local knowledge. I look forward to returning.

Serpico is an excellent restaurant. The food is interesting, complicated, sophisticated and delicious. It's worth getting some guidance from your waiter. The menu blends from appetizers, to small plates to heavier dishes without a clear delineation. They recommended three plates for each person, which was a little too much food for us. But it did give the four of us to try most of the interesting menu. Definitely worth a try.

My only complaint is that overall too salty. The caviar dish was delicious but I could not eat too much of it because of the salt factor. However friend who shared it was me thought it was fabulous and salted perfectly. The trout was terrific along with the roe and little, tiny potatoes- excellent blend. I had th only Sauvignon blanc by the class which was pretty fabulous. Complex, perfect for the fish/seafood dishes I had. This was an excellent introduction...the waitress asked, right away, if my friend and I had any dietary restrictions. How appropriate and hip and trendy!

Service is good and the staff very friendly. The wine list is far beyond average, which always makes the place worth a second visit. The food, though hyped up, is good, but far from great. It all sounds amazing on the menu, but the execution leaves much to be desired. For example, the much hyped fried duck leg is just a tiny 2" duck sausage served on a miniature hot dog bun with hoisin sauce. Interesting idea, hardly worth the hype.

I was greatly anticipating this restaurant opening from Peter Serpico as I am a huge fan of the Momofuku branches in NYC. I have to say the food was a hit. Flavors are simple and classic without too much fuss. Things are really deceptive in its simplicity, especially the dashi. There was such a great depth of flavor and the accompaniments that came with it really complemented everything. I love the shaved pieces of horseradish that added a slight burn that paired so well with the melon balls. Everything was really, really good and I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Serpico. Seven of the 8 dishes that we ate were excellent, the eighth was good. The portion size was good given the price point. The wine list is small, but there are reasonably priced for Philadelphia . The service was excellent. When there was a minor error concerning a food intolerance, Mr. Serpico came to the table to personally apologize and correct the problem.

We had a great time sitting by the kitchen. Best dinner theater in town. And yes, the duck leg sandwich was just as wonderful as everyone said. I could have made a meal of them. But then we would have missed the duck mousse, the corn ravioli and the steak. The staff was young but very well trained and watching the chefs work together was a real treat. The only disappointment was the Sly Fox beer in a can. I really expected draft.

We celebrated my husband's birthday here. We selected the Chet's tasting menu which was outstanding. It truly is the best way to get a feel for the menu. I also thought the portions were very generous for a tasting menu. Our server, Barry, was very knowledgeable about the food and was able to suggest the appropriate wine pairings.

This was my first visit and my overall experience was excellent. We had 4 people in our dining group so we each had different appetizers and entrees so we could experience and share most of the menu offerings. The food was absolutely awesome. I would recommend this as a must visit venue. We had all dined at Momofuku Ko so we knew how good the chef was and his offerings didn't disappoint. I think the restaurant could be brightened up a little more because it was quite dark.

One of the best meals we've had in Philly. Inventive small plates; modernist cooking. Service needs polishing. Good wine list but short pours and not a good variety of wine by the glass; woefully underdeveloped beer list in a beer-savvy town. We were there on a Sunday night. Parking and neighborhood may be problematic on weekends.

My friend and I went to Serpico on Friday night. It looked promising with the classy dining room and the reputation of Peter Serpico. I am a foodie who will eat ANY food at least once! So we ordered almost the whole menu...the pig head, the egg custard with caviar. The Wagu Beef, the ravioli, and the scallop crudo. The scallops were the only dish we finished. I NEVER send any food back...bit the pig head had NO flavor! It wasn't brines, there was NO salt, pepper, or oil on it. It gained MILD flavor from its burnt onion mostardo. It had the texture of lunch meat( which I don't mind), but NO flavor!!! I asked for the Wagu beef to be RARE....it was Medium and too salty to eat! I'd prefer Vetri at those prices..won't return.

Usually when you find food of this level of expertise, the complex techniques and procedures jump out at you and amaze as much as the flavors and textures. Here, however, the food presented as simple, clean, balanced, appealing, and, of course, delicious. It was only on reflection that the mastery of avant garde, modernist cooking was apparent. There was a lot going on in every dish, and the combinations were challenging and unusual. The presentations were completely without artifice; each dish was designed to be beautiful and none had or needed garnish of any kind. This place jumps right to the top level of the Philadelphia dining scene.

My husband dined at Serpico on a Saturday. Our waitress was our only annoyance. She was pushy as if she had to get us in and out. She told us (yes, told us) we would share dishes and then when my husband ordered the ribeye she told us again "you need the smaller portion steak, not the bigger ounce." Little does she know my husband! All in all, the food was succulent and very unique. I had "order envy" watching the two men next to us -- they obviously knew what to order and had picked some delicious options (duck I think). The ribeye is to die for and the lettuce salad is the best "just lettuce w/carmelized shallots) I have ever had. Desserts are excellent too. No lattes or espresso :(. The only negative was -- I was hungry an hour later.

If you have dietary limitations, this is not the place for you. But if you are an adventurous eater, it is an interesting menu with a variety of selections and flavors. It was a little on the high side--our dinner for four with tip ran over $400. But we thought everything was very good. The menu is not divided at all into appetizers, entrees, etc. It runs straight down the sheet. The only weak link was that the server (who was very pleasant) seemed a little junior for a restaurant of this magnitude. And we felt a little rushed leaving (offer to refill the coffee...we left you a 20% plus tip). But if the menu appeals to your tastes, definitely give it a try.

Options off the menu are a bit light, but what is there is great. Make sure you talk with a server about the menu, as there is only a single list, and it does not differentiate between light fare and heavy fare. In general, food is fantastic. Nice open kitchen with a professional staff. We were seated at the counter section surrounding the kitchen; we enjoyed this, but we also did not have a choice - this could be a turn off for some people (we happened to not have people on our left) as it can get crowded. Noise level is high, and some of the tables seem small. Definitely worth trying. Rather pricey for the location on South.
