A word from Serendipity 3
Expect the pleasantly unexpected at Serendipity 3. Since 1954, this colorful New York restaurant is proud to be located in the heart of Georgetown offering a one-of-a-kind dining experience worth biting into. Fun and funky is the name of the game at Serendipity. It"s the place that serves up anything but ordinary. Weekend brunch, lunch, dinner and then some – Serendipity's dessert menu is just as amazing. Try the Crème De La Cream Cheese Cake, go for the Deep Fried Oreos and Ice Cream, lose yourself in a heaping mound of Apple Cobbler or create your own Classic Sundae with toppings such as hot fudge, melted marshmallow and even raspberries. Another legendary favorite includes the famous Frozen Hot Chocolate that blends 20 different kinds of chocolate into an icy, rich cocoa flavor.

There wasnt anything terrible about this place, everything was just alright. The food was fine but not great, the service was friendly but very rushed even though there wrre very few people in the restaurant. If you just need a quick bite and dont care too much what it is, this place is fine. I wouldnt go out of my way for it.

The Georgetown location is cute, but has a bit of a musty smell. The quality of the food was on par with a Johnny Rockets or similar generic diner, although the prices are higher.

Made reservations a week or 10 days in advance. Was given a small table not large enough to accommodate beverages and appetizer plates and main course. Food was ok. Crab cakes were very filled with breading. Crab dip was EXCELLENT! Tables so close together you were part of your neighbors' conversation whether you wanted to be or not.

i'm a big fan of serendipity. went to nyc, went to vegas - they were great. when i first heard about the opening in georgetown, i came running and it was everything i thought it would be. imagine my surprise 2 years later when i brought my buddies to try it out. it was just sad. $13 for 2 scoops of ice cream and half a banana. $10 for a tiny piece of cake with a plop of whipped cream on the side. i happily paid these prices in new york because the sizes and presentation were definitely worth it. what's up, georgetown? what happened? warning: magnet for teenie boppers. kids everywhere. so many regrets...

Gargantuan portions (that are only so-so). Pales in comparison to NYC's S3; I expected more in terms of food, flair and service. That being said, the kids loved it and that's what's important. The best thing about it is its awesome location in the heart of Georgetown. Please note: the reservation time slots on Open Table did not match the restaurant's hours of operation.

We were recommended this restaurant. Definitely not worth our time to say the least. Our server was also the bartender for some reason and it took 45min to bring out a burger and nachos. The food was ok at best and the famous desserts are not at all impressive to say the least.

We visited Serendipity on a lark because my teenage daughter had heard about the desserts. We went for dinner and the food was decent, but really overpriced. It helped that the service was good (we were the only ones in the restaurant though I understand they cut their hours during winter months.) With so many choices in Georgetown I cannot recommend this for the food; however, if someone is interested in the desserts, they probably do that well.

As NYC transplants we have enjoyed this outpost of Serendipity 3. However, on our most recent visit, the restaurant was empty, the frozen hot chocolate was missing the traditional chocolate shavings and the chicken strips were less than bland. On the upside, the staff was very attentive and great!

They've taken off the pizzas on their menu and proceeded to mess up mine and another friend's order. The waitress hit me in the head with a plate, thank goodness it wasn't scalding hot. Basically, I wouldn't want to come back again.

We found our Serendipity 3 DC experience to be rather disappointing. The service was lacking - we had to flag down our server to order and ask for drink refills. He disappeared for long periods and we watched our food sit under the warming lights for several minutes before coming to us even though there were few occupied tables. The restaurant didn't feel particularly clean or well-maintained and the menu options were rather expensive (even given this premier Georgetown location) for what they were. The ambience of the NYC location did not carry through to DC. We, also, had our kids with us and no childrens' menu was available - which made sense as the whole menu is what you'd typically find on a kids' menu.

Recently brought out of town guests to Serendipity 3 in Georgetown - big disappointment. We ordered drinks, appetizers and the kids' meal as soon as we sat down. These arrived AFTER main meals. My salad was missing everything. No quality control for food coming from the kitchen. When our appetizer finally arrived with my kids' food, the chicken arrived room temperature and without the proper plating. All in all, food presentation was inconsistent and poor. The wall behind our table was splattered with some kind of sauce -- really unappetizing to the person facing the wall. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Really really disappointing. There are many, many fine options in Georgetown that should be tried instead.

As if you could have guessed it, it's all about the name. The food was very very overpriced and mediocre. My specific complaint has to do with what I ordered. I'm a very strict vegetarian for health reasons. I ordered their only vegetarian option, their veggie burger. The burger itself was fine, but the bun was not. I couldn't stomach the meal because the bun smelled and tasted like a beef patty. It was nauseating. As well as the $10 dessert that was the same quality as a diner's. I was extremely dissatisfied with my experience. I will never be going back.

When we arrived at the restaurant the host was visibly frustrated that we were there. There was a large group (probably about 25 students) who were paying their bill as well as about 3 other tables. We had to wait a while for the server to come over. When he finally came over he asked us if we were ready to order.I asked if we could start with drinks first? He said food takes longer and we should order food. I placed our food order. After 10 minutes he came to take our drink order. The meal progressed and it was unremarkable. The food was not that great and the frozen hot chocolate did taste like frozen swiss hot chocolate packs. Overall it was an unremarkable experience. DC has plenty of options and I would suggest going somewhere else.

I think only two people were working the kitchen and the floor and the service was unprofessional. The waiter took our menus off the table literally without saying a word. Never asked if we wanted more water or another drink. We had to flag him down to order an he just brought the bill without asking us about dessert and coffee. There were only three other tables with customers at them and it was eerily quiet. The food was good but I will not go back. The one in NYC is MUCH MUCH better

Service was awful - desert came before food and waiter was not apologetic. Ordered expresso which never came. 20% gratuity added on all parties with >4. Manager said that we must not have been clear with regards to our order. Only one type of Chardonnay and waiter didn't know the name and couldn't find out. Frozen hot chocolate was watery - nothing like what we have had in NY

The interior decor is charming and quaint. The food is really disappointing. I ordered the cookie sundae and the cookies were overbaked and hard as rocks. They didn't even soften in the ice cream. The ice cream was fine, but not worth paying over $10. I recommend skipping this place in favor of anywhere else.

I thought this would be a good culinary spot to bring my daughter to especially for the desserts. Having been to the original Serendipity in NYC multiple times, I was completely underwhelmed by the quality and the setting. Knowing what this site was prior to becoming Serendipity3, I didn't expect it to look like the NYC site but it was basic, boring and doesn't give much of a clue of what it tries to be. The menu was basic, food okay for bar food. We didn't have their signature frozen hot chocolate but had a sundae instead. Basically could have had the food anywhere...nothing to draw me back. The service was fine, servers were very attentive.

The Frozen Hot Chocolate was, in my 11 year old's words, "heaven". To bad the rest of the food was miserable. We were there at noon on a Sunday, so it was a brunch menu. The museli was basically a bowl of milk with some granola, blueberries and strawberries-- for $15! My chopped salad was totally uninspired and even though I asked for dressing on the side, it came slathered in ranch. For the kinds of prices they are charging, the food should be a lot better. If you go, I'd go just for desert.

One goes to Serendipity for the frozen hot chocolate based menu items because, at least at the NY Serendipitiys, they're the thing to get and they're amazing. They're on the online menu for Serendipity 3...but SURPRISE, they're not available at the restaurant and it's nothing like the NY ones. What makes it worse is that the waiter hadn't even heard of the forzen hot chocolate dishes and didn't know what they were even though there are magazine and newpaper articles framed on the wall about how good and famous they are. Without those dishes and with a wait staff that appeared confused that they might just be working at IHOP, there are far better places in Georgetown to buy your overpriced brunch.

We had a wonderful time at Serendipity 3. It's not as large as the one in NY, but it started to get busy as we were leaving. Our server, Giovanny, was excellent. He was super attentive without being overbearing and made us feel at home. The chili was very good, it was mildly sweet with a nice little kick. The Steak Frite was cooked perfectly and super tasty. Everything overall was very much worthwhile. Also, since it's on a corner in Georgetown, DC there is always someone walking by which is fun if you like to people watch.

Although it was a Sunday at 11 am... we were immediately told that they were out of smoothies, quiche, corned beef hash and french toast. How is that possible? Why didn't the manager just go right across the street to the bakery and buy some bread? We were ready to walk out as we had wanted smoothies and french toast. We stayed because we were hungry. The food was average and pricey. We walked around Georgetown afterwards and were so mad that we didn't leave... farmers fisher bakers looked a million times better!
