The food is always superb and very interesting and creative They used to serve a chocolate soufflé for dessert- was worth going for that alone. I was a little bummed when we arrived because we were given a table upstairs. But that disappointment was made up for by our charming waiter!! Not sure about that, but the food is excellent in a romantic setting in Chatham. My wife and I went for our anniversary and were not disappointed. Three menus available: two tasting menus at $120 per person for 5 courses; and a 3 course prix-fixe for $65, which we went for. The wine list is extensive and has very good reasonably priced selections by the glass. My only complaint was that our waiter was somewhat overbearing. Good place for an occasion, as is Scalini Fideli on the other side of rte 124.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed immenselyFrom the moment that the valet parks your car, to the wonderfully-made cocktails at the bar, to the beautiful dining room and finally the exceptional service and food, Serenade is a fantastic dinner experience for a special occasion. While we enjoyed cocktails in the bar before dinner, it appeared that a number of people enjoyed more casual food (and dress) in the lounge area and we were told that music is featured on one or two nights. Dinner was delicious (chose the 5 course tasting plus wine pairing) but the price makes tis a "special occasion" place. Only one minor criticism--accoustics are very poor and therefore, loud people are even louder here. Michele, our waitress was so affable and abiding! We took her suggestions for most of the dinner. I am still relishing the creamy Asparagus Soup ( wondering how Chef Laird accomplished making such a rich soup WITHOUT any cream added!!) . My husband ,for the main course , had the Halibut and I had the Shirt Ribs ( possibly THE BEST anywhere!!) and we thank Michele for these suggestions ! The rest of the staff were so wonderful ! The food was beautiful and tasty, as usual. (The halibut special was fabulous, as were the soft shell crabs.) The service was attentive and fun. Our server was very engaging. When we commented on the new "look" in the restaurant, he explained that they had just changed to wooden tables, that were handmade walnut, to keep the look up-to-date. Here, here -- a great change. We also noticed that the guests included a large business group, several romantically inclined couples, a graduation celebration, and a woman celebrating her 90th birthday. The food is always excellent. We had the tasting menu, called the Market menu, this time and enjoyed it very much. Each course was inventive and delicious.
Our waiter was fairly attentive in the busy restaurant. The wine list has improved over the last few months and we were very happy with a nice French burgundy. My only criticism was that we had to refill our own wine glasses as the waiter and sommelier were too busy. This did not ruin the dinner but it should be corrected for the future guests.

This time we had the seafood tasting menu with the wine pairings, which was something we hadn't tried before. It was perfection. The food, the wine, the service--we couldn't have asked for a better evening. We were concerned that having an early reservation time (6:30) we would be rushed, but we weren't at all. The food was priced reasonably for an upscale restaurant in an affluent section of Morris County, NJ. I got the scallops for appetizer and sea bass for dinner. My wife got the fois gras and hangar steak. All dishes were prepared to specification and contained delightful flavors that mixed well in each dish. For dessert we split a brownie. A staff member came over and offered hot chocolate sauce. We were then surprised with a selection of free sweets.
All the food came out timely. My wife tells me that the staff asked a table next to us to quite down a bit. I didn't notice them being particularly loud. Our server, Michelle, as well as the sommelier, Charles, were very attentive and knowledgable.
We had a lovely, well-paced, truly enjoyable dining experience. All the dishes were beautifully prepared, from starters to desserts (especially delicious were the pea soup and the lemon meringue "tart.")
