Diner Reviews
  • "I always enjoy eating at Serenade. You can count on excellent food and service. I appreciate that some dishes that have proved to be popular over time are kept on the menu. That makes sense to me."

  • "Menus were dirty. Flower bud on the table was broken and petal was on the table when we sat down. It should have been replaced. We had a question about a bottle of wine, and the waitress came over and said she would send someone over. While we were waiting, she came over and asked if we had decided what we wanted to order."

  • "Excellent wine selection. Stellar service. Taste, textures & presentation were absolutely fantastic. Hands-down, the best meal my wife and I have had since dining at James Beard."

  • "I mistook "17:30" for 7:30, but they still found us a great table on a crowded Saturday night!"
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Excellent food, polished service, noisy. In exchange for the high prices for food and even higher for wine, our party of 6 had a table for the entire evening on a Saturday."

  • "You will not be disappointed. The five course tasting menu is delish and a bargain at $80. The al a carte menu isn't bad either. It simply is a lovely place to spend an evening."

  • "First...the food was excellent, maybe even superb, but the waitress was extremely verbally rude to my husband, and made herself quite obvious that she was displeased that I was taking more time than she wished to chose my food. Her manner was abrupt and negative all night. The noise level was so loud that my husband, sitting to my right, could not hear me and kept asking me to repeat what I said. Our guests also found the noise level exceedingly high and conversation difficult, if not impossible. It was only toward the end of the meal when the noise level diminished enough that we could converse amongst ourselves without difficulty.(10 pm or so). I had remembered a much more understander elegant restaurant; now the ambiance is just blah."

  • "Service was great, food was just OK. NYC prices without the NYC quality. For $300 for my wife and I I expected a little more."

  • "Had the foie gras starter and the lobster main - both were delicious. Cocktails are good - I like the stone fence (bourbon, apple cider, lemon). Brownie dessert was better than expected - very tasty. The apple cobbler is not exciting but it's done well with tons of brown sugar. My DCs enjoyed the octopus starter, scallops, and sea bass - overall everyone was very pleased. I could come up with only a minor quibble - the potato bread was a bit doughy. The polish of the service doesn't live up to the polish of the food but all of the front of the house people are quite pleasant so there is nothing exactly wrong with it. The dining rooms are nicely decorated and the bar is comfortable if you are looking for a lighter meal or cocktails."

  • "Spectacular, innovative, perfectly cooked food -- even after all these years. Monday night half-priced wine night: got an excellent Barolo for $80. Still my favorite restaurant in NJ."

  • "Food really was outstanding, however, the noise level was awful. Literally had to scream across the table to be heard by my own party, as well as couldn't hear or understand what the waiters were saying because of the noise level"

  • "Food excellent. Service acceptable, but not outstanding."

  • "This restaurant was truly a hidden gem. It is a bit expensive but this is a great restaurant for a special occasion and for a wonderful night out with the one you love!"

  • "As someone who has been going to Serenade for 9 years, my larest visit set new highs for food and service. The kitchen handled a special request with ease and delivered some delicious food. And the service was outstanding, too."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "While the food is very good the service was average at best. We were never told of the specials for dinner and/or dessert - our waiter had very little personality and we waited at least 20 minutes if not more for the check after having asked for it. This is the second time we had this server and the service was equally as bad both times. We frequent this restaurant often including having our daughters graduation dinner there and have had nothing but great service and food. The last two times have been disappointing and we question whether we should return."

  • "My husband and I went to Serenade the day after Valentine's Day so the pre-fixe price was set at $85 a person for three courses (which by my math, is far more than any combination of three courses). Be that as it may, the food was excellent. I don't think either of us left a morsel of food on any of our plates. I had the filet mignon, which unfortunately was cooked beyond the medium rare I had requested, however it still was one of the most tender and delicious steaks I have had. My dessert was the brownie with ice cream, which was amazing. With two cocktails and a half bottle of wine, we ended up spending $275 (without tip), which is a splurge but well worth it."

  • "This is the 2 nd time in 3 months we dined here. Serenade makes this a dining experience. The service is impeccable; there when you need them far enough away that you enjoy your private conversation. This was price fix an was outstanding; the filet mignon ( rare) melted in your mouth. Everything was done to our liking."

  • "The Laird's chose 50 wines to sell at half price on Mondays in February. It was a great opportunity to order an excellent bottle that normally one would not. The food, as always was excellent. It wasn't very crowded, so that room we were in had plenty of space between tables. The appetizers of tuna tartare and leak, potato, lobster soup with shaved truffles were excellent. Filet mignon done to perfection. My wife had a wonderful lemon tart and sorbet for dessert. Service was quite good but not intrusive. Very friendly staff."

  • "I looked forward to my first experience at Serenade for weeks. I picked it for my Birthday and Valentines celebration. My mistake as far as doing this with a set menu due to a very busy holiday weekend. If you are a foodie this is not the place for you the portions were average to small everything tasted good but nothing over the top for the cost. The servers were busy they did there best the staff seemed happy for the most part although my husband who went out side for a smoke overheard the Manager telling some the staff to quiet down for what seemed to be some kind of inside joke he was not thrilled with the experience and the grand total cost for again a holiday weekend dinner "our mistake" I myself would like to give this a try again."

  • "My husband and I went to Serenade for Valentine's Day, as we do almost every year. We're never disappointed. The price fix menu was cooked to perfection. While we did feel the courses were coming out a little fast, the food was excellent and we did not feel rushed during dessert and coffee. We're looking forward to our next dinner at Serenade. I especially love their Saturday night seafood menu with wine pairings."

  • "The first time we visited Serenade about 8 years ago, I remember the food being great, but we had an issue with the sommelier. It was enough for me to not go back for a while. I'm glad we did go back, because this time, it was an all around great experience for our Valentine's Day dinner. It was a special menu for the night, very creative and very good. The service was great and the champagne and wine were also very good."

  • "Not our first time at Serenade. Serenade is always a mixture of pleasant experiences and disappointments which keep it from entering my favorite restaurant rotation menu. No blue cheese olives for martinis, one of my criteria for a favorite. Went there for Valentine's Day. The special V-day restaurant menu was pricy but it was delicious. The standouts were the braised short rib ravioli and the lobster entree. The servers were courteous and friendly but not totally attentive. They were very busy and they overlooked some things at our table. The restaurant was very crowded and very noisy. They are clearly a very popular place. Overall, the best experience I've ever had at Serenade but not good enough to keep me going back regularly."

  • "Was worried about the possible noise level when meeting friends who we wanted to be able to hear speak!! But noise level was not a problem. Menu is prixe fixe. Food was very good. Modern decor, yet still charming. Bar was very busy. Not good to go early and meet at bar for drink before dinner, too crowded. Just an all around good choice for a grown-up dinner out with friends."

  • "Extensive and expensive wine list. Being familiar with one or two bottles of wine, the cost is quadruple the retail price in the local wine shop. Not such a good feeling. Some places allow you to bring your own and charge a nominal corking fee but that is not an option here."

  • "Service was lacking for a once spectacular restaurant. I think more of my martini was poured on the table than in my glass. The server then walked away not noticing this. I had to ask for napkins to clean the table. Food was quite good. However, the Tuna entree looked more like a starter portion. The starters were clearly prepared & plated earlier in the day. They were served in 4 minutes and on plates that were cold tot he touch. I expect everything to be prepared to order at a restaurant of this level. Quite expensive for what you get. Tables seem a bit small and really tight once the entrees are served."

  • "Serenade is a terrific restaurant. Sophisticated and delicious but comfortable. Tasting menus (meat based or seafood based) $80 with an option to add wine for an extra $40. Also a la carte for lower prices. Everything is marvelous. Repeat customer & always pleased."

  • "Serenade is easily my favorite restaurant, anywhere. Beats every restaurant in NJ and NYC that I've encountered, and I have been to a lot of the best. Here, they pay very close attention to every detail of every little thing that you're served. It is creative and always perfectly prepared. They have a sommelier on duty who is knowledgable, friendly and helpful in navigating their impressive wine list. And if you are willing to go all-in, their tasting menus with wine pairings always make for a memorable event."

  • "We ordered two appetizers, crab cakes and scallops, both of which were very tasty. My red snapper main course was also delicious and delicately prepared. My husband said he liked his sea bass but my daughter said that her chicken was dried out. For dessert we ordered brownie a la mode and it was quite good. The waiter, maitre d' and top level service personnel were humorless and unsmiling. As a result, the total package left much room for improvement, considering the high prices. If I came again (because the food was good), I would come for lunch and order off the bar menu, which I saw some people do."

  • "Both the food and wine were outstanding and service was also quite good... However, we felt that our prix fixe dinner w/ wine paring was quite rushed and we found ourselves out of the restaurant rather quickly... We chose Serenade for our New Year's Eve dinner, as it has been excellent in the past, plus this evening is also our wedding anniversary... It appeared to us that Serenade had booked as many reservations as they could and wanted to move our dinner along..."

  • "Seranade is a superb neighborhood restaurant with a long standing legacy of fine dining. It is cozy and comfortable, without distracting background noise or waiters crashing plates next to you. The menu is sophisticated and everything beautifully plated and delicious. The wine list is expansive. We were there for New Years Eve. It was the antithesis of freezing and plotzing in Times Square. It couldn't have been nicer. We had the wine pairing to go with each course of the dinner and even the wines were perfect. Seranade is our go to restaurant when we want to treat ourselves to something special."

  • "Only down sides were service related as I felt rushed. We wanted to sit and enjoy our cocktail first, yet the waiter wanted our order. Then the first course and wine pairing arrived very quickly. This was after the hostess rushed us to our table...even wanted to seat me alone instead of waiting at the bar. I asked her if she was hurrying to turn over tables, which is exact what was her intent. After dinner she made us wait outside in freezing cold for valet to bring car rather than taking car check inside for the lone valet. We were also surprised at the rather loose dress code for an otherwise upscale restaurant. Hint to one couple seated nearby: plaid flannel shirts, jeans and sneakers are NOT appropriate attire."

  • "We have enjoyed Serenade for many years, but it is extra special for the holidays. The menu is filled with old favorites; the preparation changes over the years. I always enjoy the crab cake, venison and cobbler. It is nice to see families, out together, and dressed for a special occasion. The noise level is enthusiastic, but it is a happy sound. The hostess also does an excellent job of keeping the tables for two together in the main dining room, so you don't have to contend with a table for eight. My confirmation promised "elegant holiday dining".....it was!"
