  • Catering: Serafina can cater in any format or venue – in your home, on a beach or at a park. Your guests will be transported to Italy when they taste the dishes recreated from meals enjoyed in friends' homes throughout Italy by owner Susan Kaufman and Chef Josh Green. Or, choose the Mediterranean cuisine offered at sister restaurant, Cicchetti. Buffet, plated, cocktail party – whatever the style, we will custom-tailor menus and hand-select wine and cocktails. Our catering manager, Maxine Holtzman, can help with arrangements for rentals, decorations, musicians, florists and photographers.
  • Entertainment: Serafina offers live music every Tuesday Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings as well as Sunday brunch and the "First Wednesday" of every month. Our musicians mostly perform jazz, but music also ranges from blues to bossa nova. The stage is at the heart of the dining room, with many tables enjoying a direct view of the musicians. There is no cover charge to enjoy music, however the dining room is reserved for dinner only until our waitlist is entirely seated. At that point, typically around 10pm on weekends, we are happy to seat guests for drinks and dessert who'd like to enjoy the jazz from the dining room.

A word from Serafina
Serafina opened its doors in 1991 as an intimate neighborhood restaurant located along Eastlake between the University and Downtown. Its ochre walls, reminiscent of the Tuscan landscape, its intimate, sultry atmosphere, outdoor garden seating and its authentic Italian cuisine make it a favorite with diners from around the Puget Sound and beyond. Serafina's philosophy is simple: Offer the freshest, highest quality ingredients, present the food in an honest and inviting way, and provide the casual warmth and soothing ambiance that echoes the welcoming embrace of an Italian home.
The ritual of coming together sharing wine and food with family and friends is the central motif in our lives. Italian food has an immediacy, honesty, and warmth; it possesses the spirit of a grandmother's wisdom and love. Italian food isn't about trailblazing alchemy or edible high fashion; Italian food is about staying connected—to each other, to the past, to the earth.

I have been to Serafina multiple times over the past 8-10 years. I will return. Here were two items which were disappointing... ---The noise level of a large table of guests was too much and we requested to move ---The menu lacked any "fish entrees"

I want to Serafina with a couple of girlfriends. We sat at a corner table, which was great because it felt pretty intimate. We went on a Wednesday night, and it was surprisingly crowded, but the noise level was perfect. The service was great. Everyone was super friendly. Our waitress recommended fantastic dishes off the menu. My friend ordered a decaf espresso after dinner, but was brought a cappuccino instead. The waitress was incredibly apologetic. My friend decided to keep the cappuccino and our waitress gave it to her on the house. It was the perfect place to hang out and catch up!

It had been a while since I've been there. Too bad my date couldn't make it, she would have loved it. Being as busy as it was, I was seated quickly at my reserved time. Service was prompt and friendly, and there was no pressure. The wine was very good, as I opted for a house blend, but the price was not what I expected as my two glasses of wine were almost as much as the restaurant special. (I may pay the corking fee next time.) Overall, I couldn't ask for better food or presentation. The pear salad was perfect, the chicken was spectacular. Despite it being busy, there was no rush to have me leave, but out of courtesy I did as people were waiting. Next time I go, I hope to have the same quality of service and food.

Tried Serafina during restaurant week - we added the salumi plate and a tasty bottle of chianti to round out the meal. Affettati Misti - delicious and a hearty serving for the price, served with Pecorino and stone ground mustard Potato soup with truffle oil - creamy, thick, and flavorful - loved it! My friend and I both had the Roman-style semolina gnocchi with tomato-parmesan sugo, which was a bit disappointing. The sauce was terrific, but the greens were really bitter. The portion was pretty small as well. I had the bittersweet chocolate crema with cocoa nib cake and espresso caramel - which was heavenly! The flavors were so rich, without being overwhelming. Loved the salty/sweet/bitter combination. I'll come back for more!

Having been here once before, I had high expectations. I knew portion sizes were on the small side (I am not a big person who needs a lot of food, but their entree portions are more akin to a large appetizer than a reasonable entree). Anyway, the Seattle Restaurant Week menu appeared fine, but upon delivery, all 3 of us were keenly disappointed with both the quality and authenticity of each dish (since when are gnocchi dense and square? since when does one slice of rather average pecorino = a "formaggio plate"?). I know it was SRW and the budget gets tight, but either don't do it or WOW me! I left most definitely sub-Wow'ed. Also, live music far too loud for such a small place, wine list overpriced. Waitstaff was quite good.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Serafina. The place offered a very elegant and romantic ambiance; a piano and bass duo was playing good music while we dined. The staff was very professional and friendly giving us superb service. The food was very good, the perfect mix of elaborate cuisine that still maintained the home-style cooking feeling. We ordered various items from the menu that give us a good statistical sample to review the place. The salads, primi piatti, secondi e contorni were very good. We tried an almond desert that was just fair. The espresso was below par which is not acceptable in a place like this. The place has a nice choice of wines, the two we tried by the glass were excellent, and of after dinner drinks.

  • Brunch at prix-fixe

    Dined on 10/26/2014
Went to Serafina's for their prix-fixe brunch. There were a lot of choices for the first two courses, only a couple of vegetarian options though. A lot of pork dishes, which although delicious, did weigh a bit heavy on the stomach for brunch, and maybe a little saltier than I like (but I tend to shy from salt). Brunch features live jazz music, which was delightful to me but could be bothersome those who prefer a quieter brunch scene. Service was great, friendly, and efficient. Hostess/server were willing to make recommendations. Quick to clean up between courses. Overall, good dining experience. Most likely to go back for a different meal to see what they offer.

Terrific creative and delicious brunch menu that is a wonderful departure from the usual fare at most brunch spots. Well executed by the skilled kitchen staff and a nice change of pace, but not out in left field, so that it's simply mainstream items done with flare and imagination. Well worth a try if you've seen enough standard omelet menu items for brunch.

Overall the dinner experience was just OK. I had a house salad that was nothing more than lettuce with a basic vinaigrette; totally over priced and boring. The main course I had was a rabbit dish, this was delicious. I tried two desserts as my friend and I each ordered one and then shared, they were OK, but nothing exciting. The "bread service" was not worth it, and the oil it came with was so garlicky.

WOW. Some of the best food we've ever had, better than most we had in Italy. We chose Serafina based on reviews on OpenTable and TripAdvisor for our 35th anniversary. It was everything we hoped and better. We dined on Monday of SRW, so it was crowded, and gave a nice energy to the evening. Our server, Matthew, was impeccable. He was friendly & attentive w/out being intrusive. The service was PERFECTLY paced; apprx 15-20 mins between courses, allowing time for each to settle before the next. We enjoyed a pear & frisee salad, trout, and cocoa nib cake and pear gelato. Each course was flawless, perfect portions and beautifully presented. A hiccup with taxi was resolved personally by Matthew. Grazie mille for a memorable anniversary dinner!

We went with another couple to Serafina for the Seattle Restaurant Week. The choices were excellent and we each enjoyed our dishes. The chicken dish was in a succulent sauce with a celeriac puree and the onions. My friend who had the trout said it was the best she had ever eaten and had no bones. The Bittersweet chocolate crema was outstanding. There was a pianist playing wonderful music throughout the meal, which added ambiance to the beautiful dining area.

We started with some fabulous tender calamari - not breaded, just nicely seared. We had some beautiful scallops and a delicious lamb-shank special. Our server recommended an excellent wine that was a little less expensive than the one that I was considering. Tables are cozy, but the overall atmosphere is fun. Music on the weekends. We reserved, as we usually do, through open table. We were surprised that the menu on the OT website was not updated, so we came in really hungry for the pork chop only to be told that it was not on the new menu. The server said they "had more important things to do" than update the site. We debated leaving, but decided to stay, had the mussels, (which were a little too strong and smokey), the Brussels sprouts and the ravioli, which were both delicious. Good wine. It's one of our favorite places, so we'll be back.
