Sepia12 course dinnerSurprising courses with a unique flair on Thai dishes.
Not too much food in spite of the number of courses.
Group service is excellent and the dishes come quickly.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGoodThis is a solid casual fine dining place. Good, knowledgeable wait staff, professional, relatively quick food arrival. Good creative food.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAMAZINGWonderful experience top to bottom. Great service, great wine. great food!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day BrunchExcellent experience. Been to the restaurant a few times now, and enjoy the food, service, and ambiance each time.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious dinnerMy husband and I had a pre-opera dinner on a Saturday night. Service was warm and friendly. The food was delicious!! My husband had the waygu beef which was accompanied with beef cheek pastrami. Both were so tender and flavorful. Really delicious. I had the halibut and loved it as well. Cooked perfectly with lots of flavor. Don't expect to get stuffed on a dinner here (like you would at say a steakhouse) but it was enough to be satisfied.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSeasonal changesSepia has an ever changing menu that is reaching new highs with every seasonal change. Keep up the good work.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderfulWe had early reservations, so it was quiet. The service was attentive and our waiter recommended great wine pairings. The side of sunchokes was bigger than the serving of halibut, but all was delicious!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLovelyWe had a great experience - cocktails, apps, and dessert were magnificent. Notably, the crispy fried egg with asparagus, the duet of beef and the Arctic char were some of the best prepared that we've had in a long time. Definitely worth a visit!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAll dishes were delicious,All dishes were delicious, but we were disappointed with the portion sizes5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMEating outdoors made it quiet.Eating outdoors made it quiet. No one seems to want to eat outdoors here, so it's a great place for that.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Birthday GiftMy husband took me to Chicago for a Birthday Weekend Getaway and chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner...he did a great job! The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable in both the menu items but also the wine list. He was attentive and had excellent communication skills and timed the courses just right. The food was just delicious and the ambiance was very pleasant. I would whole heartedly recommend Sepia to all who love great food!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBrilliant experiential diningI found this restaurant while walking the streets of Chicago on a recent business trip--and I'm glad I decided to venture inside. I ordered the five-course chef's tasting menu, which was a true dining experience.
At other restaurants where I've tried a similar menu, there are often a couple courses that are just *ok*. Not so at Sepia--each course was as sumptuous, unexpected, and delicious as the course that preceded it.
The dish that really floored me was a dish of wagyu beef served two ways. One of those executions was termed beef cheek "pastrami." In addition to being one of the tastiest bites of beef I've ever eaten, it was so unimaginably tender, I'm quite sure I could have cut it with a stern glance. Try it!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMI make it to Sepia on a monthlyI make it to Sepia on a monthly basis but this was a special trip to see off the bartender, Josh Pearson. I normally just have drinks and appetizers but I had a full meal this time. The food is always outstanding, but the entree portions were a little smaller than I expected. I had a pork dish that was maybe 6 oz of tenderloin with a few slices of pork cheek to go with it. They tasted fantastic, it was just a little steep price for what I received. I may be back, but without Josh it probably won't be the same.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHad lunch at Sepia recentlyHad lunch at Sepia recently and every aspect of the experience was flawless.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSepia consistently deliversSepia consistently delivers an outstanding culinary experience and great service. The server suggested I try the turkey sandwich special and it was a great choice. I really appreciate when the servers know the menu and can suggest certain items. We'll be back!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWhile in Chicago, decidedWhile in Chicago, decided to visit based on reviews. I can see why this restaurant is Michelin rated, the food was eclectic but wonderful. The service is top-notch. My wife can be very hard to please as she is definitely not a foodie, but the waiter went out of his way to make her feel welcome and even found a wine that she liked (he refused to give up!)
The food was prepared with great care and the presentation was fantastic. Really enjoyed the evening and will go back when in town. I truly believe this restaurant deserves more stars!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect date night...My wife and I decided that for date night it would be Sepia for dinner then a very small walk to the Cadillac Palace for a show. Sepia is a great place for amazing food and a relaxing yet elegant night out. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Started off with a few cocktails...R&R Smash was smashing! Had the Foie Gras Royale to start and Chef Zimmerman even brought out some extra toasted brioche for us. The duck breast was amazing; the pork tenderloin was perfect. Oh, and the duck fat fried potatoes is a must!
Will definitely be going back!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was imaginatively prepared,Food was imaginatively prepared, and everything was delicious. Restaurant is creative and beautiful. Not too noisy. Overall, a wonderful experience.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was excellentThe service was excellent -- friendly and knowledgable. The main courses, however, were somewhat disappointing. The waygu beef had tendons in it and the second piece was prepared as pastrami, which was much too concentrated and intense for the meat itself. The halibut dish was better, but the fish was not quite as delicate as one would have hoped.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe bartender is a find: makesThe bartender is a find: makes wonderful craft cocktails and does not shake a martini too long. What we like best about the food is that it appears to be a simple presentation so that the ingredients stand-out. The chef obviously stresses making the food shine by using complementary ingredients.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMService was a little bit slowService was a little bit slow but otherwise a great lunch spot.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI arranged a dinner at SepiaI arranged a dinner at Sepia for my parents. My mom was celebrating her 70th birthday and Sepia turned out to be one of the best restaurants they have ever visited. Special thanks to Joe Kellerman for his attention to detail and caring. I have heard about tasty duck breast, a great wine list and fantastic desserts. Happy Birthday, Mom!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI found the service and decorI found the service and decor to be impressive, the decor is very classic and yet very trendy with a relaxed casual vibe.
Food was very good. Really enjoyed the roasted beet soup was spectacular!
Thanks for a wonderful evening Sepia!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSepia was a real find. WeSepia was a real find. We arrived early and were the first guests (make a reservation!). Our server was attentive but not over bearing. The setting is lovely and understated. The food is outstanding ... the redfish was divine and the pork tenderloin was decadent. The pastry chef is a real artist; desserts were yummy. The meal started with an amuse bouche and ended with a small plate of miniatures (shortbread, mini flourless chocolate cake). Excellent!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding service, withOutstanding service, with various additional treats. Tasty ingredients in all dishes and very appealing presentation. Not too noisy, easy parking.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe chef's menu was a realThe chef's menu was a real surprise - small portions but amazing tastes and flavors.
Interesting and worldwide wine list - can't go wrong.
We came from out of town and can't wait for a return visit.
Another - don't miss!!!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the finest experiencesOne of the finest experiences I haveever had! Super food, great attentive service. Fine dining with no pretense. Can not recommend Sepia highly enough!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food, amazing servivce! We love Sepia. We have been there before and held our rehearsal dinner in the private event space last summer. The service is wonderful, the staff is so informed on all the dishes and wine list. There menu changes seasonally which is fabulous. A must visit if you live in Chicago or if you're visiting. By far one of the best restaurants in the city. They often offer several fish dishes, all have been wonderful when we've been there. And the bread that starts the meal is the best bread I've had! And stay for a dessert. They are all fabulous.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI dug deep into the seasonalI dug deep into the seasonal beer list - excellent variety
I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner - buckwheat pasta with rabbit meatballs, and wagyu pastrami steak.
Service was helpful and friendly.
Only complaint - few choices for vegetarians.
I would have loved to try the tasting menu - 5 or 7 dishes chosen by the kitchen - but it could only be ordered by the whole table. See above about vegetarians.
Basically I would return in a heartbeat, but my veggie wife probably won't let me until my next birthday.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best places inOne of the best places in Chicago! We had the tasting menu with pairings, the service and timing was excellent. You cannot call yourself a Chicago foodie if you haven't been here yet. Absolutely loved it!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth itLimited menu but the food was fabulous. The tastes were superb4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for Easter brunch soWent for Easter brunch so we had a prix fixe menu. Food was great, service was great, cocktails were amazing! Best Old Fashion I have ever had.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMYum!Sepia offers brunch only twice a year, but it's worth the special effort. Most items (breads, salads/starters, dessert) are served family style; but each diner can choose their own entree. Almost everything was superlative. Variety compensated for the few items that were less so. The most pressing issue was being (almost) too full to try the three desserts. Service was also excellent without being intrusive.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMSepia was recommended by aSepia was recommended by a friend for a romantic nite out. Menu had an excellent variety of food and wine. Our waiter Mark was very helpful describing the menu items and giving us info on the wines we were considering. The food and wine were delicious. Just the right amount of waitstaff attention. Wide range of dressyness from fancy jeans to suits/dresses. Lots's of fun.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service. LovelyGreat food and service. Lovely presentation. A little loud3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food very expensive drinksExceptional food and service. Try the artic char. Martini''s at $15 a pop, $3 top $4 more than anywhere else in Chicago. Really!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe dishes I ordered (tandooriThe dishes I ordered (tandoori sweetbreads, crawfish boudin) all sounded good, but were mild in flavor and tasted rather boring. for the price I definitely don't think it was worth it.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI was so looking forward toI was so looking forward to this meal and the amuse bouche certainly did not disappoint. It was so fresh and full of flavor, I could have had a whole plate of it! We also had the scallops and the buckwheat pasta with rabbit meatballs which were both delicious. My husband had the pork entree while I had the waygu beef entre. While both were good, I was a little disappointed in the dryness of the meats. Other than that, we had a great meal.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently great. An actualConsistently great. An actual restaurant that you don't have to shout in. Service is always good, wine list is exceptional with some very unique bottles for the city. Always recommend it. Some may be turned off my the single page menu. Actually think this is one of the best parts.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe found the wine list difficultWe found the wine list difficult to navigate, but the waiter was very capable of helping us make choices.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the most delightfulOne of the most delightful restaurant meals in ages!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderfulThis is my third visit to Sepia. This time I went for Chef's week. As always, I had a wonderful experience. The service was impeccable. Every dish I ordered was perfect in terms of taste (flavors mixed perfectly with one another), portion size (just right) and presentation. They have a great wine selection, too. The only complaint I have is the noise level: high! I was sitting at a round table with 4 friends and it was hard to hear whoever was not sitting directly next to me. Despite this, I absolutely recommend this restaurant!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was more crowded than usualIt was more crowded than usual for a Thursday night as it was Chef's Week, so livelier than usual. Wonderful food---our foodie friends were very impressed. Slight mishap with glass that had some debris on it, but gracefully remedied.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMbest American food that getsbest American food that gets into my mouth ever...3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat serviceI had a great chefs week lunch with my friend. Our server was extremely friendly. He even took his time to explain the meanings behind the various pictures on the beverage coasters when I had asked. I loved the atmosphere and the decorations inside the restaurant. Both the soup and salad appetizers were absolutely delicious. I really think this is a great lunch spot. My only problem was that I wish I had more sauce or crème fraîche on my fish because it was sort of bland. The desserts were delicious. I will definitely be returning!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was very attentiveThe service was very attentive and there when you want them, but not hovering. Server knew menu well. While we were not rushed, food came out quickly. Both of us dining thought the food was exceptionally well prepared and delicious. Both the salad and the soup were among the best we'd had. I had the roasted trout, which was excellent. My dining companion had the papardelle, whech he thought was excellent. The chocolate date cake was also very good. I will likely visit again, as it was an excellent experience.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMCould not have asked for aCould not have asked for a more delightful birthday dinner celebration. Delicious & creative food, relaxed service, beautifully elegant yet modern decor, great atmosphere. All our food was meticulously prepared & presented--chickory salad, grilled calamari, duck breast, arctic char, sirloin w/beef cheeks (which were amazing!)were all absolutely delicious. So glad they played Ella singing the standards & none of that horrible house music; matched the atmosphere perfectly. Not rushed; 8pm on a weeknight was perfect time. Truly a unique, beautiful & relaxed space. Will definitely return & tell others about it.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for entertainingGreat spot for entertaining clients and the menu was very unique and gave everyone at our table a choice in the their comfort zone.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved our dinner there!
