Diner Reviews
  • "Every course was extremely well-conceived and well-made. Attentive service... great scheduling of courses. One could not ask for more from a restaurant."

  • "Four of us dined at Senza on a Friday night. It was one of the best Restsursnt meals we've ever eaten, in terms of food, and the service was impeccable. The menu changes all the time, so describing the dishes isn't that useful, but the bottom line is that the synthesis of flavors far exceeded the sum of the ingredients. The wine pairings were also spot on and reflected nuanced consideration of secondary ingredients and tastes. An amazing restaurant. Extremely highly recommended."

  • "Senza is a very good restaurant. I was especially impressed with the wine pairings. Every tasting was beautiful, unique, and delicious. If I hadn't already been to a couple unbelievable tasting restaurants, I would say this is one of my favorites in the city. It's close - so close - to a place like Next, but a little more relaxed and a little more friendly, which I like. I highly recommend it for a special occasion if you want good service, interesting combinations of tastes, and good wine, without the white-glove stuffiness or without feeling like you have to be too proper. Cheers to the staff - they are friendly and provide excellent service but in quite a friendly way. Thanks!"

  • "This was some of the best food I've ever tasted - each dish explodes with incredible flavor and you savor every morsel. The ambiance and service top off the whole experience by being professional and welcoming, and the result is a perfect evening. I havent been to next, but I'm told that the food is of a similar standard to Senza for a much higher price - for what you get Senza is extremely good value for money and absolutely worth the cost. We had the 5 course menu (which works out at 8 courses as it includes 2 amuse bouche and a cheese course) and a $40 bottle of wine, and our bill was $240 including tip."

  • "Finally someone got it that fine dining doesn't have to be stuffy."

  • "Our daughter gave us a gift cert for Senza. My wife has several food allergies and can no longer enjoy many foods. Senza staff were amazingly careful to recommend, describe and prepare what she could eat. She thoroughly enjoyed each bite. We are going back!!!!"

  • "The food and service at Senza are outstanding. They catered a pescatarian menu for us which was amazing. My only complaint is that they have raised tables with stool-like chairs that are extremely uncomfortable (the back of the chair ends lower than you bellybutton). When you are paying that much for the food and service you should at least be comfortable!"

  • "My boyfriend and I love to find hidden gems wherever we go. This place was delicious and the decor was perfect for the setting. Everyone was extremely friendly and knowledgable which made for a fun meal. We did the wine pairing which was amazing burnt the 5th course, we were feeling a little tipsy due to the full glasses of wine we were enjoying. We would definitely recommend this to anyone who is visiting Chicago. We will be back!"

  • "This was hands down the best dining experience I have ever had. It puts Alinea and Moto to shame. The food was amazing!!!"
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "I'm not quite sure what to make of Senza. The food presentation (and cost) are what you would expect at a foodie restaurant but the service and ambiance aren't up to that high standard. Sometimes the staff acted like they were working in a fine dining restaurant - "presenting" an inexpensive bottle of cider and detailing each ingredient in a dish, for example. But they would also disappear for long periods and we'd have to hunt them down to refill our water glasses and pour our wine. Most of the food was delicious but the whole experience was just OK. When I'm paying almost $300 for a dinner for two I want to walk away feeling very satisfied with the mean and pampered by the staff. Sadly, that wasn't the case here."

  • "My husband might as well have had an ... when the hot loaf of bread was served. It was a gluten free pumpernickel with wonderful butter. He ate the whole loaf. What a treat for his birthday! The Agnolotti with first of the season morels from Europe was heavenly as was the parsnip soup. Overall, a wonderful meal at a very good price with wine pairings. Will definitely be back!"

  • "We went there to celebrate a special occasion and it was wonderful. The 5 course menu was excellent, the wines pairing great and the staff very attentive."

  • "My wife and I have dined at Senza twice now, once for the 5-course menu and just last weekend for the 9-course (both times with the wine pairings). The food is nuanced, creative, and unbelievably delicious with standout dishes including the morel agnolotti and loup de mer. The service is also top-notch, with each course arriving within seconds of its wine or cocktail pairing. Our primary server was friendly, enthusiastic, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu and wines, and I admire how the entire staff works like a well-oiled machine to ensure that our dining experience was worthy of Chef Sandoval's brilliant creations."

  • "Could not speak more highly of this dinner and night out. Food was sublime, the service excellent. Cocktails were fabulous. We were a party of four out for my birthday and the night went very well. Sensational high quality food in a relaxed fabulous dining room. Will definitely be back."

  • "We went here because it us gluten free, but who cares! We are pretty critical about restaurants, but this honestly was the best meal we have had in Chicago in years!! The tasting menu is perfect. Each dish with amazing combinations of complex flavors. The wine pairings were spot on! The service was impeccable-relaxed, attentive without hovering."

  • "Senza's a lovely little cafe in the European style, clean lines, simple decoration. With a new Michelin star, we had high expectations, the food and service did not disappoint! The portions are very small, but rich and packed with flavor. You'd think you might be hungry after eating so few bites, but by the end of the meal, you realize it was all just right, and very satisfying--and we just had the 5 course menu. All plates are composed with beauty and style, and served simultaneously. The scallop/foie gras with carmelized leek was divine. My husband had the lamb, while our son and I had the fish-- both were great, but if I had to choose again, I would get the lamb! I would definitely eat here again when in Chicago."

  • "Definitely for higher brow food folk, or someone with lots of money trying to impress. Food was great, and I appreciate it for what it is. However, with each course being the size of two saltines, this place isn't for me. Doesn't mean it isn't great though. Just think it is more for those with a greater appreciation for food than this simpleton."

  • "I'm not surprised that Senza already has a Michelin star so shortly after opening. It deserves a second one. The atmosphere is very cozy and I never felt self-conscious even though I dined alone. The server was very friendly, helpful and never intrusive. Great food. I was going to get the five course pre-fix but decided on the 11 course at the last minute. All the courses were equally outstanding. The parsnip soup was a real standout as well as the lamb. I'm not a seafood lover, but the amuse bouche oyster and the loup de mer were really superior. I really enjoyed the two deserts. I am a chocolate lover, but I liked the oatmeal dessert even more. The tastes and textures were especially good. Chef Sandoval has just the right touch."

  • "Everyone in Chigaco, and especially East Lakeview should partake in and support what is happening in this unassuming storefront on Broadway. Exceptional food and service on par with some of the more hyped establishments in town. Friendly and professional service, amazing food, and a great cocktail and wine selection. All of this takes place in an intimate dining room with a great neighboorhood vibe. It was our first time here and we decided to start with the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing. We will definitely be heading back for the 9 course."

  • "I brought a good friend of mine to Senza in return for a big favor she'd done for me. She was mind-blown, as was I, by the quality of the food and service. Every single bit was incredible. Seldom at a prix fix restaurant do you truly love every course; that CAN be said of Senza's offering. Pricey, but you absolutely get what you pay for."

  • "Really foody's gem, very subtile and delicate. Perfect service, discrete, simple and effecient. Wine list also well build. We had a memorable food journey. Ok, one suggestion: increase the portion size just a little bit on the short menu. Overall, please Don't change, this place is a gem!"

  • "I have been a devotee of this particular gem almost since the day they opened, and have never been anything less than amazed and delighted by the quality an detention to detail given to every aspect of this restaurant. After receiving his first Michelin star recently (should have been two stars), Chef Noah Sandoval certainly hasn't rested on his laurels. The most recent meal I had was, without exaggeration, perfect. I brought in a friend visiting from Buenos Aires, and I think his entire perception of American food changed with this one experience. If you ever want to gift a friend (or yourself) with an incredible experience you'll remember for a long time, don't hesitate to book yourself a seat at Senza."

  • "Dined Friday night w/ friends...our 3rd time. Senza is my favorite restaurant in Chicago - combining knock-out food, service and atmosphere. I know of no place that combines this level of dining and keeps it fun. So balanced. Foremost - Noah Sandoval is a rockstar. The entire tasting was off the charts, but the table's favorites were the lamb tartare (a terrific play on the whopper, but the King never imagined mustard panna cotta), the parsnip soup (lobster & cherry!), and the pork belly (szechuan pepper crumble). As always, the service was attentive and genuine. Senza is fun for groups but a great date place for sure -- judging from the smiles in the room. Forget the gluten-free label. Senza is a best of Chicago, without qualifier."

  • "I had to think long and hard about this but settled on the fact that this was the best meal I've ever had and I just had the 5 course because the other person I was with had a shellfish allergy. All I have to say is that words won't do this experience any good so you'll need to see for yourself. Let's just say at the end of the meal I felt like a kid being told it was time to leave the playground! Special thanks to Tori our waitress she was amazing and so sweet to give us a small loaf of the bread to take with."

  • "I found Senza to have a very enjoyable menu with some unique tastes compared to other set menu restaurants around town. I had the five course set with the wine pairing and it was plenty of food, and with my companion we were able to try the entire menu. The service was very nice and informative. It was a little cramped in the main dining area but the noise level was acceptable for a place of this style. Value for money I believe to be quite high at the 5 item list. Overall, I would highly recommend you give it a try."

  • "It was phenomenal! Our flight was late and they let us arrive late for our reservation and were very understanding. The food and service were outstanding. It's the first time in 5 years of being gluten free that we've gone to a truly gourmet restaurant and had the pleasure of knowing we could eat EVERYTHING they served and enjoy it. A wonderful experience, and really excellent food. Altogether a memorable experience for our very brief visit to Chicago."

  • "we had the 10 courses with wine pairings, it was fantastic. Not everything to our taste, but made the evening entertaining as we ranked the dishes. We befriended our neighbors at the next table (space is relatively tight) which made it a very social evening. Worth going just for the wide range of dishes, tastes and flavors. Im celiac, the entire menu is gluten free, so this restaurant should be a mandatory stop for any foodie celiacs anywhere near Chicago!!"

  • "We wanted to try someplace different from the overly trendy places or the 4 hour marathons for New Years Eve. This did not disappoint. Meal was even better than the meal I had at Grace a couple of days earlier. I hadn't heard of Senza before but I won't forget them."

  • "As always, this restaurant provides exceptional food, service and ambiance. You would never know that everything is gluten-free. It is a haven for those with gluten sensitivities and for those without. I highly recommend this restaurant and will continue to return time and time again. The new menu is great! The tastes and presentation are top notch. Make a reservation to ensure you get a table."

  • "Senza offers wonderful menu options, you choose from a 5 or 10 course ever-changing menu. We found 5 courses to be a lot of food! This is fine dining in every sense, from the attentive wait staff, the interesting shaped dishes, the minimalist decoration, and of course the fine food with each plate decorated with flair. You will not notice what is missing, which is the gluten. Senza is an entirely gluten-free restaurant all the way down to the beers being offered. You would never know it given the delicious pasta course and a small loaf of warm pumpernickel bread."

  • "This was my second time at Senza. Service was great. I felt the food was over salted both times."
    Dined on 1/3/2014
  • "We loved the presentation and the food. We were the first people to enter the restaurant and there were 4-5 staff waiting around who seemed to be more interested in talking with each other than in greeting the customers. Different wait staff came out to serve each entree and there was no attempt to engage us in conversation save a desolate "how is everything so far?". We were hoping to love this place - especially because of their 5 entree option which seemed like something that would be easier to do than the 15 course menus offered at Moto/Next etc for which I feel I have to starve myself to enjoy the meal! But the wait staff was a real turn off and I will definitely not choose to go back to a place where we did not feel welcomed."
