Diner Reviews
  • "Great menu, well-put-together, great service. These guys deserve their star."

  • "Senza is a fabulous restaurant. A little expensive but worth it for a great dinner and/or a special occasion. We had the five course tasting menu, and one of the dishes I was not able to eat. The chef change that one course for me, and it was delicious. This was my third time visiting Senza, and it has never let me down."

  • "If you are in Chicago, Senza is a MUST if you are a foodie. Chef Noah Sandoval is pure genius and his 9 course tasting menu is one of the most interesting and delicious we have ever experienced. Unique wine pairings, artfully presented, delicious food and knowledgable staff made for an incredible dinner in the Windy City. You won't be disappointed."

  • "Had the five course tasting menu with wine pairings. We were under a time crunch as we had plans to go to a show back in downtown. No problem! the waitress pushed things along to ensure that we had enough time to drive back downtown (a 30 min. drive even though our destination was only 6 miles from the restaurant!). This was perhaps the best "fast food" meal I have ever had. Lamb encrusted with cipollini ash was spectacular as was the scallop dish. Would absolutely go again with more time to completely enjoy the experience."

  • "Senza had a fantastic idea: set up the menu with the main ingredient shown at the left and the complementary ingredients of that dish shown at the right, so you had an idea of the complexity of preparation. There was a choice of at least 2, maybe 3, items in each category. They claim that guests found it hard to "understand" the menu setup and as a result there is now NO choice at all in the dinner, and the menu is arranged in the standard way so that diners have no idea what the components are in the construction of any particular dish. Great disappointment in an otherwise perfect culinary adventure. A shame."

  • "Imagine a restaurant that has a tasting menu that can hang with some of the very best in Chicago, Scandinavian decor, and the feel of midwestern hospitality. That is Senza. You are made to feel at home as you walk in the door. Tasting menu only - long form or short form, so make sure you are comfortable with that arrangement. Each course is beautiful and delicious and the wine (or other) beverage pairings are well done. Easily worthy of it's Michelin star."

  • "They earned their Milchelin star. Did the full nine course and loved every bite. Nice flavors and very different with each course."

  • "Senza continues to be one of my favorite restaurants...not only in Chicago...but ANYwhere! The food is always inventive with complex and wonderful tastes, while also being beautifully composed. The wine pairings are always spot on, as well. And the servicec is so professional and friendly -- not at all pretentious which sometimes comes along with food this good."

  • "The food was amazing, the presentation was even better, and I left very full and satisfied!"

  • "The food was amazing and beautiful. The service was wonderful. We had a great time and left happy and tipsy. What more can you ask for?"

  • "During my visit to Senza, I was taken back on how great a job they have done. From the food to the service it was amazing. I have dinned at places such as Alinea, L20, and Tru. Compare this place to the other 3, the one thing I liked the most is not having to dress up. Its all about the food that gets on the table. Excellent experience overall..."

  • "My wife and I visited for the first time on her birthday. It won't be the last. Senza graciously seated us at a great table and proceeded to dazzle my wife with fantastic service, ambiance and food. Their graciousness to 2 out-of-towners (Seattle-ites) was surprising. We'll be back."

  • "Great presentation of each course. Accommodated our guest with food allergies without blinking an eye. Perfect for special occasions. "

  • "The food is phenomenal. The flavor combinations are spot on. What this place is lacking is outstanding service. Not sure if we came on an off night but our dinner took forever. The wait between courses was ridiculous. They do not have the timing down like other fine dining establishments in Chicago. The waitress did apologize for all of the delays so it sounds like this is not the norm. Either way it took away from the experience and the quality of the food. "

  • "Senza was wonderful. The sevice was thoughtful and professional. During the 3 1/2 hour dining experience (9-course option) we were presented with beautifully prepared dishes and perfectly paired wines. Each dish and wine was fully explained by a server who was obviousness well versed in wine. Reservation were confirmed with the usual questions - special occasion, food allergies, etc. my wife is allergic to shrimp and the staff was aware when we arrived and thoroughly reviewed the details with her. There was not a single thing we didn't enjoy that evening. "

  • "Kind of weird experience. We can't say we dislike it, but the food didn't WOW us enough to want to repeat it. It was mostly seafood and protein in different variations. What was missing for us is more interesting vegetable accompaniments. Couple of dishes simply repeated themselves with mostly the same ingredients. The service though was excellent and the presentations were beautiful. Did it worth $135 p/p for a Tasting menu? I would say no, but you can judge for yourself. Some people might like it, but unfortunately our expectations didn't come true."

  • "Well, may be not as good as Alinea, but I like it better than Elizabeth, Moto, Tru, Northpond, Blackbird, Sepia and Takashi! It's that good!"

  • "Came for dinner with my wife. Did the 10 course prix-fix with wine paring. All we can say was that every bite was a "WOW." That is a first. Had dinner at another very well known high-end Mexican last night and it was a total let-down after Senza. Be prepared to be taken to a new level of eating."

  • "One of the best meals I have had at any price level, highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The only downside I would say is the ambiance. Just didn't feel quite quaint enough given the uniqueness and high quality cuisine. We tried the 10 course option with the wine pairings, and I have to say this meal touched all my senses! It was amazing! The service staff's knowledge and attentiveness were unmatched. "

  • "Had dinner on a Wednesday; went with the nine course tasting menu plus wine pairings. Had no idea the restaurant is gluten-free, neither here nor there. Service was efficient and helpful, and the course ranged from really good to exceptional. The pairings were well thought out, but not necessarily a highlight. Fish dishes were all expertly cooked, and the combination of flavors across the dishes were intriguing and very enjoyable. All thumbs up!"

  • "Senza was well worth the four-hour drive from Iowa City to celebrate our 30th anniversary! This is no ordinary dining experience but rather an adventurous deep dive into the creative world of sensory dining, where each and every bite offers its own savory reward. We chose the five-course option with wine pairings but were delighted to experience three extra tastings, thereby enhancing our appreciation Senza's impressively inventive menu. The g-free bread alone nearly brought my wife to tears of joy. Indeed, the entire evening was absolutely delightful, including the welcoming environment and friendly service. Chef Noah Sandoval and the entire Senza team richly deserve the Michelin Star rating and other accolades they have received!"

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and it was an absolutely awesome experience. The food was delicious and he compared it to some of the best meals he's ever had. The staff was phenomenal, everything was timed perfectly. My favorite was the crab soup, but everything was great!! Also loved the edible flowers. :) "

  • "My gf and I decided to do the prix fixe along with Pino wine. It was excellent. My gf found an eye lash in one of dishes. The waitress and the chef were extremely apologetic. They brought out a brand new dish and it was excellent. I would go here again!"

  • "We came her for my husbands 40th birthday and we were happily surprised with not only the food but also the wine pairing. What a wonderful experience. This is definitely a hidden gem. "

  • "Been wanting to try senza since it opened, mostly because my husband has a gluten-allergy and it is 100% gluten-free. Little did I know what an incredible food experience it would be!! The servers are all well-versed in their food, answer questions, and offer tips and in-sight. After the 9 course tasting menu, we were both stuffed and fully-beyond-satisfied. It's a must in Chicago!! "

  • "My husband and I went here for my birthday. We had the full tasting menu and wine pairings. We thought every dish was wonderful--sometimes with these types of meals you have at least one dish that is okay--all were great. The wine pairings were well done and we had some wines we'd never had before. We also appreciated the cocktail as one of the pairings. highly recommend coming here."

  • "Went to Semza with high expectations. the food was presented beautifully and geniously conceived. But everything was so salty that ruined the evenining. Almostball plates included ice creams where inmerse in tons of salt. We pointed that to the server and salty plates kept coming to the table. Everybody was attonished at the table. Dont go. Just spend premium dollars somewhere else"

  • "Senza is not a top tier restaurant where one is dazzled by posh decor, precisely orchestrated service, or a fifty page wine list. The surroundings, service, and wine list were all excellent. But Senza will build its reputation upon the food - and the food was spectacular. We had the nine course tasting menu and were seduced by every course. Chef Noah demonstrated remarkable versatility. Each course was strikingly different while being lovingly crafted with exquisite appearance, astounding favors, and complex textures. We have had the good fortune to dine in many of Chicago's Michelin starred restaurants. Senza is in the top group of the one stars and heading for two. We will return. "

  • "From the greeting at the door until the presentation of the check this restaurant is wonderful. We selected the five course tasting menu with the wine pairings. The explanations of the wines were right on point and paired beautifully with each course. Our server was great. I loved every course especially the parsnip soup and the scallop course. Everything was perfectly cooked and beautifully arranged. "

  • "The 5 course meal was amazing. Do the wine pairings with your meal. you will not be disappointed. The wines were carefully chosen and not your run of the mill varietals. if you are looking for a true dining experience then please go there."

  • "Although this is a one michelin star restaurant, it was better than expected. I feared that being gluten free would compromise the flavor. Not true, not even for the bread. Service was very attentive but not overly so. The food was magnificent. Modern but accessible and very tasty. Prices were quite good for the food quality as well. Would definitely recommend. Perhaps the best restaurant in the city."

  • "Chose this for a big birthday and were very, very impressed. Amazing flavor combinations made even more spectacular by the wine pairings. Service is just lovely: informed, down-to-earth, and just attentive enough. We were so thrilled with our entire experience. "

  • "My husband and I had a date night here this past Saturday and left the restaurant in extreme bliss. We did the five course tasting, which ended up being 8 courses. Every dish was balanced and delicious. We wanted to lick our plates clean. So good! And the service - every single person was so kind and fun. We honestly can't wait to go back. Anyone want to babysit for us?"
