  • Public Transit: If you are traveling by BART, exit at Embarcadero Station. Walk up Drumm St. pass the Hyatt Regency and turn right to enter the street level of Embarcadero Center 4. Take two escalator flights up to the Promenade Level. Sens entrance is located a few yards down the walkway on your left.

Sens is French for the word meaning "Sense," which refers to the faculties of sight, sound, smell, and taste that humans perceive this as stimuli originating from the body inside and out.

At Sens we love the process of cooking and its end result, complete happiness. Our inspiration is that of the Mediterranean with its wonderfully diverse cultures and cuisines. Our goal is not to redefine or reinvent their cuisine but rather to refine, refresh and create delicious and beautiful food. We use only the finest local ingredients and exotic spices to elevate our classic and modern techniques. Our destination is and will always be the same, to develop and perfect the flavor, fragrance, texture and composition of each dish while creating a unique and unforgettable experience.

There was large party in the private room which caused a delay in our entrees, however the hostess/manager (?) comp'd our appetizers to compensate for the delay. The lamb burgers were tasty, paella flavorful and lemonades refreshing. No CC required for our reservation!"

  • "Staff and wait staff very nice and gave us a window table as requested. Even moved it around so we could max out the view. The food was imaginative, using excellent ingredients. I found my Day Boat Scallops somewhat overwhelmed by the pancetta's salty taste, but my dining companions had no complaints. Our waiter gave us a complimentary birthday dessert, the Creme Fraiche Cheesecake - fantastic. We also shared an Strawberry Almond Cake dessert - fantastic. Overall, I would certainly return - the view of the Bay Bridge lights is magnificent."

  • "great location near ferry building. seated with views of the bay bridge. large table for a 6 but too dark. food was great but couldn't really see it. drinks were well made and decor was nice. really enjoyed the steak, apricot appetizer, pork belly was to die for, service was great but food and drinks took a little longer than wanted, not a fan of the lamb, whole fish was awesome but in the dark hard to pick out the bones, complimentary birthday cheesecake perfect!"

Having spent two of her early years at a convent in Monaco, the French theme enchanted her. A highly attentive waiter was a nice finish to an excellent experience. "

  • "Sens menu was fairly small and did not fit well for the picky dinners in our group. The starters were okay- nothing special but the short ribs were amazing. Our service was very lacking... And the restaurant was empty. This did not make sense to me. Drinks took forever and were often empty. The view is nice but this is not somewhere I'd dine again, there are too many great restaurants in the city to give Sens another try. "

  • "We had a wonderful experience at Sens. I had the scallops that were prepared perfectly while my boyfriend had the lamb also cooked very well. The ambiance is dark, romantic and reasonable quiet. They were more than happy to accommodate my gluten free requests (Celiac) and answered all of my many questions!"

  • "What a great experience in every aspect. Devin, our waiter, was amazing. We asked him for his opinion on many of the dishes and he made some the best recommendations, including pairing the wine. For starters, the poached turkish apricots were very light and delicious (and won an award), but the lamb tartar was so incredibly fresh, it literally melted in your mouth. Next, we had the "fattoush" salad - definitely try it! It was so simple, yet tasted like it just came out of the garden. Devin even shared the recipe with us, with a little secret ingredient of tumeric. Who knew! At this point, my husband and I were getting full, so we shared the spare ribs. They melted off of the bone and into your mouth. Wow! Delicious! Thank you! "

  • "Since so many of SF's view restaurants have closed down (top of the Hilton, top of the BofA building, etc.), it's hard to find a place to take out of towners who want to enjoy some of the most scenic views in America. Sens to the rescue!! Overlooking the Embarcadero and the Bay Bridge, go for the view, but stay for the delicious food and the unique drinks. If you just want to go for cocktails, be sure to have some of the crispy stuffed olives to go with your drinks. The olives are stuffed with a meat mixture with Mediterranean spices and then breaded and deep fried. They are served with toasted almonds and a slightly sweet dipping sauce--fabulous!! The atmosphere here is very nice and on a warm day, you can have your drinks outside."

  • "Our host was fabulous.. I'm claustrophobic and he made sure that I was at a very comfortable table even though the restaurant was crowded…Our Waitperson was delightful . The food was delicious and plentiful, and the drinks and the wine superb! We loved the ambiance and the spacious feel to the entire area, yet if was cozy and romantic. We'll be back!"

  • "When we arrived for our reservation, there was nobody to greet us. After a few minutes of patiently waiting, we were left wondering if it was a "seat yourself environment". As a server passed by, I flagged her down to ask how we should go about being seated. Her response " Drinks?". I let her know we would like to eat as well, to which she replied " So drinks and apps". I let her know we had a reservation, and that we would like to be seated to enjoy a proper dinner. The Crab Tortellini was wonderful. I think the kitchen might be carrying the team in this restaurant. A very nice manager type greeted us on the way out (seated), but it would have been nice to start off on that foot."

  • "This is a great restaurant located at the Embarcadero. The food is wonderful--fresh and tasty-- and the menu is unique. The fattoush salad was the best we have ever tasted. I had short ribs and my husband had swordfish; we highly recommend each. We had ice cream for dessert; it was 3 small scoops of flavorful ice cream that was just enough to satisfy a sweet tooth and not leave you overfilled. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly."

  • "Been meaning to hit this new incarnation of the old favorite. "Splendito's" for a while. We had a guy's birthday lunch and were all completely delighted! From cocktails, to the wine list, we were happy. The delicious chicken soup was just a warm up for the roster pork belly that was fabulous! Enjoy the stone interior and Bay view! A fun place to come as you are, or dress up to be seen. So ladies, break out those pointy pumps!"

  • "We went there because the bar and restaurant menus sounded good. However, they have divided the restaurant in two parts and you can't get the bar menu in the restaurant nor the restaurant menu in the bar. Not good. Service was poor, forgot my wife's shellfish twice. Noise level is incredible, so loud that you cannot carry on a conversation. Won't go back."

  • "I've had lunch several times at Sens; this was only my second time there for dinner. I ate there with my hubby and we were seated right next to the bar, which made it difficult to carry on a conversation because of the noise level. Sens is one of the few places I know that doesn't honor happy hour prices in the restaurant and won't allow a happy hour drink to be brought into the restaurant. They lose a star for that policy. If I go again for dinner, I'll just eat in the bar. The atmosphere and decibel level are the same."

The view of the lighted Bay Bridge that evening was spectacular and added to an overall terrific night out!"

  • "Four of us dined here on Monday night. After 35 minutes of waiting, my husband had to get up and inquire as to whether we'd been forgotten. A waitress appeared shortly, apologized profusely and took our drink order. She returned with the drinks and said she'd be right back to take our order. After another long wait, another waiter arrived and said that he'd now be serving us, said that our waitress was not feeling well and had left. We were finally served our meal about 1 1/2 hours after we arrived. I can't speak for the others in our party, but my dinner arrived lukewarm. I will say that our party was comped 2 free drinks. For me, the biggest disappointment was that the management made very little effort to remedy the situation."

  • "Waiter was friendly and very conscientious about getting our food on time within our lunch hour. The food portion was on the smaller side for the price but reasonable for a fancier lunch. I had their daily/weekly special braised beef in wine on saffron risotto. The beef was very good but the saffron was a little too heavy. Overall I like Sens and would come again."
