Diner Reviews
  • "When we arrived for our reservation, there was nobody to greet us. After a few minutes of patiently waiting, we were left wondering if it was a "seat yourself environment". As a server passed by, I flagged her down to ask how we should go about being seated. Her response " Drinks?". I let her know we would like to eat as well, to which she replied " So drinks and apps". I let her know we had a reservation, and that we would like to be seated to enjoy a proper dinner. The Crab Tortellini was wonderful. I think the kitchen might be carrying the team in this restaurant. A very nice manager type greeted us on the way out (seated), but it would have been nice to start off on that foot."

  • "really nice restaurant, great food, nice ambience; feels like a chalet !!!!!"

  • "This is a great restaurant located at the Embarcadero. The food is wonderful--fresh and tasty-- and the menu is unique. The fattoush salad was the best we have ever tasted. I had short ribs and my husband had swordfish; we highly recommend each. We had ice cream for dessert; it was 3 small scoops of flavorful ice cream that was just enough to satisfy a sweet tooth and not leave you overfilled. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly."

  • "Been meaning to hit this new incarnation of the old favorite. "Splendito's" for a while. We had a guy's birthday lunch and were all completely delighted! From cocktails, to the wine list, we were happy. The delicious chicken soup was just a warm up for the roster pork belly that was fabulous! Enjoy the stone interior and Bay view! A fun place to come as you are, or dress up to be seen. So ladies, break out those pointy pumps!"

  • "This was for my mom's B-day. Everyone felt this place lacked flavor! Every dish needed seasoning-salt! The waitress was courteous but the food really disappointed. I enjoyed the view of the Bay Bridge with the LED lights. Unfortunately, that was the only highlight."

  • "We went there because the bar and restaurant menus sounded good. However, they have divided the restaurant in two parts and you can't get the bar menu in the restaurant nor the restaurant menu in the bar. Not good. Service was poor, forgot my wife's shellfish twice. Noise level is incredible, so loud that you cannot carry on a conversation. Won't go back."

  • "I have been here on several occasions for business lunches. The food is very good, and so is the service. I will be coming here again and again. It has yet to disappoint. I have ordered the cesar salad with prawns two times now and absolutely love how they serve this dish."

  • "As usual, food was great and service was outstanding"

  • "The Waiter hand the bus boy repeatedly pushed us through the meal and the restaurants wasn't that full. The food and ambiance were good but this careless rushing ruined the atmosphere."

  • "Sens has lasted longer than most restaurants in Embarcadero Center. A mid-level spacious restaurant featuring Mediterranean food. It's the view of the Bay that draws people here. They say that there are 3000 good restaurants in San Francisco and no bad ones, because they don't last. Sens has lasted."

  • "I've had lunch several times at Sens; this was only my second time there for dinner. I ate there with my hubby and we were seated right next to the bar, which made it difficult to carry on a conversation because of the noise level. Sens is one of the few places I know that doesn't honor happy hour prices in the restaurant and won't allow a happy hour drink to be brought into the restaurant. They lose a star for that policy. If I go again for dinner, I'll just eat in the bar. The atmosphere and decibel level are the same."

  • ". . . I would pass on this place. Food is just ok, presentation poor overall, service terrible, and pricey as are all things SF seem to be. Menu is very limited and food VERY salty."

  • "The slow service detracted from the good food. Lots of people in the restaurant but not so many that the service should have been affected."

  • "I've eaten at this restaurant numerous times and the food has never disappointed. The service is pleasant and according to your direction. Very enjoyable experience always."

  • "The waitress was fine but the busboy took our bread plates AND silver while we still had fresh bread on them. II had my knife and fork set on the bread plate and those were taken away without any fanfare or questions asked."

  • "I thought that Sens had great food, stellar views, and a fun ambiance. However, I also thought that portion sizes were small, and that the food was pretty overpriced. The service could have been better and more attentive, but was fine. It was a decent spot for a date."

  • "Loved the food and service. Great view of the bay bridge, great bar. Flat bread and meat balls were awesome and so was lamb and full chicken."

  • "The baby roasted chicken with truffle-infused pasta and sauteed kale was fabulous! Ate every bite...and I thought I wasn't very hungry, as did my dinner guest. Our waiter was very attentive and helped with the wine selection, offering us tastes before we committed to the glasses of wine selected. The ice cream dessert was delicious too. The view of the lighted Bay Bridge that evening was spectacular and added to an overall terrific night out!"

  • "Four of us dined here on Monday night. After 35 minutes of waiting, my husband had to get up and inquire as to whether we'd been forgotten. A waitress appeared shortly, apologized profusely and took our drink order. She returned with the drinks and said she'd be right back to take our order. After another long wait, another waiter arrived and said that he'd now be serving us, said that our waitress was not feeling well and had left. We were finally served our meal about 1 1/2 hours after we arrived. I can't speak for the others in our party, but my dinner arrived lukewarm. I will say that our party was comped 2 free drinks. For me, the biggest disappointment was that the management made very little effort to remedy the situation."

  • "Waiter was friendly and very conscientious about getting our food on time within our lunch hour. The food portion was on the smaller side for the price but reasonable for a fancier lunch. I had their daily/weekly special braised beef in wine on saffron risotto. The beef was very good but the saffron was a little too heavy. Overall I like Sens and would come again."

  • "A great view, at a window table, for an out of town guest. The food was delicious all around, and multiple servicing size choices if you ordered from the appetizer and/or entree menus. The only problem - way TOO LOUD when the restaurant filled up. We could hardly hear our own conversation. This is a serious flaw in almost all restaurants these days. It's a pity. BUT, Sens was otherwise and go-back-to experience. Especially appreciative of the staff friendliness and lack of pretension."

  • "Great food- I go there all the time. Usually sit at bar (Bartender is a great guy!). Had a table with client this time. definitely felt rushed by server who really had no personality. Will stick with eating at the bar"

  • "The dinner menu I felt was very limited of what they had available to serve. I also thought the portion sizes were small considering the price and quality of each dish served. The servive was good only because there were only a few tables occupied. This was no fault of our server because he was the only one working the tables besides the busers. Overall I don't think I would return."

  • "The food was amazing, but the service lacked for the price. Portions are small and prices are relatively high compared to other, though the food quality was extremely high. The only real issue is when we arrived early the greeter was extremely rude about it. At these prices, if we are polite and respectful to staff, we should receive service to match the food quality as well. One last issue is that online prices are nearly 40% cheaper online than in person. This is a serious issue for me as it reminds me of teaser scams. The waitress was great and made sure the food was allergen safe for me."

  • "We had a great meal at Sens. With a window view we were able to see the wonderful Bay Bridge light show. The food was creatively prepared and tasted good."

  • "I really enjoyed the restaurant the waiter and wine service were excellent. The big complaint was it took over 2hours to get our entrees on what appeared to an average night. I would go again but speak to the waiter before to insure meals arrive promptly. Fun place and the flat breads are the best I ever had."

  • "We each (4) had something different - Ribeye, Chicken, Swordfish and Scallops - terrific deserts - All wonderful food with great service. The view of the bridge was fantastic."

  • "I'm a regular at Sens, mostly for the bar after work. But I recently had a weeknight dinner as well. The restaurant was nearly deserted. In spite of this, or maybe because of it, our waiter was surly and palpably indifferent to our needs throughout the meal. My companion and I were more interested in the food and conversation/company, so didn't respond to the waiter in kind. In spite of that, and a spite of a generous tip, particularly given the appalling service, we got neither a 'thank you' nor a 'have a nice evening' on our departure. That waiter is toxic for the business. I won't be back to the restaurant, or the bar, for quite some time."

  • "The menu at Sens is pared down from what I recall from past visits but the offerings don't disappoint. The grilled Spanish octopus was outstanding as was the farmer's market salad. We also had the chicken meatballs and the swordfish brochette both of which were well prepared (although the swordfish brochette would have been more pleasing if served a bit warmer.) Sens is a great spot to view the Bay Bridge light show if you can get near the windows."

  • "Sens is a large restaurant that doesn't feel large. The upside in this is that you can generally get a reservation, even if it's a busy day for downtown lunches. I've found all of the dishes to be very good, the service is friendly and timely and the views can be nice out of the second floor at Embarcadero Four. I'd recommend it for a work lunch, and even a social lunch if you like the menu."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised that they actually accommodated us with the best seats in the house based on my note at the Open Table reservation. The view was spectacular! Our waitress was lovely and extremely helpful. Noise level was acceptable enough for us to carry on conversation at almost normal level. Salad was excellent, duck tortellini were the best I’ve ever eaten! Delicious! I didn’t care much for Mediterranean plate - it was plain and expensive – stay away from that one! Overall experience was very pleasant."

  • "This restaurant is great for big groups. The atmosphere is comfortable and has a great view of the embarcadero waterfront. The appetizers are delicious; the Mediterranean Spreads and Wood Oven Flat Breads are yummy. The lamb burger is awesome. I've also been here for happy hours and the drinks are cheap and good. They have a dj and there's an outside section (covered outside) so it is fun. The food is good and the atmosphere is nice for lunch or dinner."

  • "Very noisy for lunch. At our table for eight it was extremely difficult to say anything to anyone who was not seated immediately adjacent. Food is excellent. Service was generally excellent until server became hard to find late in the game. Good location. Probably works better if you avoid 12 noon during the holiday season."

  • "We went to Sens primarily for the view and were not disappointed. We were seated right by one of the big windows with view on the bridge and ferry building. On a Saturday night, it wasn't crowded or too noisy. Four of us shared several appetizer plates, all good and a couple of them were outstanding. I recommend the grilled octopus."
