Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner was excellent with unexpected pairings that really worked. We really enjoyed the dinner and the transportation museum in the building. This was our second visit, and we'll return."

  • "Our first dinner here and we chose it to celebrate a dear friend's Birthday. We all loved the nostalgic feel of the dining room, in keeping with the park. All four of us ordered different entrees. Lamb, steelhead, duck and sable. All beautifully prepared. Our server was very friendly and attentive but not overly so, therefore making it a relaxing not rushed evening. We all enjoyed different desserts, one with a candle in it. Without going into detail, I believe there are no bad ones. Looking forward to our next visit. "

  • "Went with young family that was overly fussy and the servers took extra care of us, bringing crackers and adding a little cranberry juice to our kids' water to help soothe them."

  • "The food came out cold and the price was much higher than I expected. The evening was pleasent and it really was an excellent place for dinner and a movie. We probably won't go back because of the price but we have a pass to heritage park and look forward to the park opening."

  • "My family and I went to the Dinner and a Movie promotion at Selkirk where they show a movie in the venue after dinner. We had a great time and the staff was wonderful. My wife is celiac and the team there created the same meal as on the menu but gluten free for her. Lovely building with an amazing historical car museum in the basement! Great time had by all."

  • "We were under the impression this restaurant was participating in the Dine In Week and booked it to try for that reason. Not disappointed with the restaurant but felt the Open Table advertising was misleading."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us - we never would have thought to go there. The atmosphere was great - nicley decorated, not noisy. The menu had alot of choices and the food was excellent. The only disappointment was 1 dish (lobster mac and cheese) that was bland. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely go there again."

  • "The service was fabulous, and the food - superb. Thank you. We will come back."

  • "When we arrived we waited at least 10 minutes before actually being seated. Our first table was right beside the staff service station, which was less then desirable. We were then moved to a different table, which was better. We ordered our drinks and were served our appetizer from the set menu. It was okay, a bit on the cool side. We were never served any bread for our table, which would have been nice. I ordered a glass of wine with to have with my main, which took a very long time to be brought to be, despite the restaurant itself was not very busy and was well staffed. Needless to say I had finished my main before receiving my wine and we then proceeded to wait about 15-20 minutes for our bill due to some errors with the machine."

  • "My boyfriend and i went here for a fine dining experience, and boy did we get it! The service was pretty great, and the food was outstanding. I had the pork chop with root vegetables, and green salad- very good! My boyfriend had a steak which he quite enjoyed. It was about $100 for the two of us, which is what we were expecting."

  • "The quality of the food and service is outstanding. We had the pork and the chicken dishes, and never have we had such tender portions of each. The food is presented very well, portions are not huge, but we did leave feeling full and completely satisfied. We shall return again! Desserts are fabulous by the way:)))"

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner. We brought two friends along to than them for doing us a big favour and so, of course, wanted to go somewhere nice. We sat near a door on a chilly evening and were delighted to find there were no cold air leaks ... they used to make them right in the old days, I guess. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. Food options were plentiful and interesting. We chatted through dinner and then shared a couple of excellent desserts. Overall, I would say we were well treated, well fed and had a very nice time."

  • "We decided to visit Heritage Park and the menu at Selkirk Grill convinced us to make lunch there a part of our experience. Love the ambiance, very early 20th Century. No noticeable noise levels, although we were only one of two groups present. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. And the food. Oh, the food! All four members of our party raved about their choices, from beef and lamb burgers to the chicken club. And make sure you order the fries, they are easily some of the best I have every tasted. I recommend this place highly to anyone looking for an upgrade to their standard weekend lunch!"

  • "The chef at the Selkirk Grille outdid himself on his selection for Valentine's Day special. The food was amazing and the presentation beautiful. We will be back and will be looking to make many more Valentine's Days a little extra special by enjoying it with the wonderful staff and great food at the Selkirk Grille."

  • "My wife and I had lunch there and both the food and the service is 1st rate. The venue is very unique at Heritage Park and worth going out of the way to go to. We plan to go back and try dinner and brunch menus. Prices are very good value for money."

  • "We were disappointed that this restaurant did not serve brunch items, even though we were there at 11 am. The food was ok - a tad overcooked. The tomatoes were great and so were the fries. It was not very busy so it was quite quiet."

  • "Was at Selkirk Grille for a birthday lunch that did not disappoint -- from the charcuterie platter, to our mains and dessert, the food was top notch. Service was excellent and the ambiance can't be beat. Love the retro feel of the place."

  • "I love this restaurant! It blends vintage charm with amazing service! The food is made with premium ingredients (Silver Sage Beef, organic greens, etc) with a lot of thought put into creating healthy but flavourful menu choices. They also have a nice selection of wine and tea. The desserts are simply mind-blowing (all made "in-house") and are far too delicious to leave without sampling at least one accompanied by latte! I will definitely be coming back!"

  • "The theme is fantastic and the value is terrific. Great meal, the service was exceptional, fun in the museum before the start of the movie , Tables set up in the main area with dessert , popcorn and beverages...unique outing for sure!"

  • "We were there t For a Girls Day out and to celebrate a birthday. LOVED that the music was low and that there were no TVs!! This allowed us all to chat without yelling. We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, food and atmosphere."

  • "What a great experience. Our server, Evanna, was outstanding, providing those touches expected at a fine restaurant. Her suggestion to try a Jager Caesar, a new twist on the Bloody Caesar, set the tone for an interesting lunch. The Pear & Beet Salad was a wonderful balance of salty/sweet, crunchy/soft, and all fresh and crisp. The Root Vegetable Soup was filled with a melody of flavours and was the perfect choice on a cold winter day. The Lamb Burger was cooked to perfection with just a hint of pink in the middle, surrounded by a light as a feather brioche bun and topped with an herb butter, YUM! The Steak Sandwich was equally well presented with a great grainy bread and nice smear of flavourful mustard. Will return for Movie Nights!"

  • "I have never had a negative experience at the Selkirk, notwithstanding my error in filling out my first review of it on Open Table, when I mistakenly rated it in reverse:) I am looking forward to checking out their newest offering "Dinner and a Movie Date Night" starting on Feb.4th..."

  • "Very nice open air feel with the large windows and on a sunny day the sun shining in. Food is excellent, as is the service. Easy to get to, and lots of parking pretty close by, assuming the main park is not open. We will be going again!!"

  • "Wonderful personable staff & very attentative. Service was smack on, even though they had a full house. Wine selection was delicious & perfectly paired with the many options for lunch."

  • "I didn't know this restaurant existed until we looked through OpenTable. Getting there was mostly straightforward, though once in the park it is important not to go through the deliveries gate and instead park in the very spacious parking lot. Inside was quiet and decorated in ye olde Canadian fashion. There were maybe 20 tables in all. The greeter seemed a bit cranky, but our waitress was extremely courteous and efficient. In reference to an earlier review, she did have a nose piercing but was was professionally dressed and one of the best wait staff I have encountered. The menu was diverse, with unique choices like prosciutto wrapped elk. However, my wife and I opted for the prime rib and lobster; it was delicious. I would recommend."

  • "Great location and nice atmosphere in dining room. The food was exceptional, and service was attentive. Elk was cooked to perfection - rare as requested. Lamb shank was tender and fell off the bone. Pickerel dish was a tasty combo with the risotto....and the fish was cooked perfect."

  • "We had a great experience at Selkirk Grille. The service was great and our meals were outstanding. The location and decoration are really well done and it is a nice and quiet location. I can imagine it is even more spectacular in the summer when Heritage Park is fully open. I can't wait to go again, maybe for a lunch this time in the summer."

  • "I've been to the Selkirik Grille several times and thoroughly enjoyed it. This time, not so much. Our server was borderline surly (perfunctory at best) and seemed put-out to have to deal with our group of eight. Similarly the kitchen seemed unprepared to get eight meals out at the same time. My friends' lamb shank was ( apparently) delicious but my tiny portion of chicken was dry, obviously overcooked. My husband had the elk, which was sinewy and uninspiring. We live near Heritage Park and would love to add this restaurant to our list of regular dining spots. The location couldn't be more picturesque. However, for the cost ($175 for two of us) we can't justify it. We'll stick with Involtini in Oak Bay Plaza."

  • "We waited 50 (!!) mins for our first drink, which definately set the tone for the evening. Our server was totally overwhelmed & did not communicate well with us at all. Our food was alright once service finally started. Our first course however was literally thrown on the table in a terribly abrupt fashion. One of our steaks we ordered med well came out rare & he couldn't eat it. There was no one around to check on us however. And on and on and on. Selkirke overbooked New years eve & they robbed us of what was supposed to be a special evening in doing so. Senior staff was not accomodating with complaining customers around us even though Selkirke was doing so wrong. I strongly feel they shouldn't have opened the back side up."
