Diner Reviews
  • "The food was very mediocre and bland. I had the coconut panacotta which had no detectable flavour of coconut and a very odd chemical taste. The flatbread was not baked sufficiently and therefore tasted raw.The waiter was disinterested. However, it is a lovely quiet outdoor venue."

  • "Beautiful inside and patio side, foodie type menu and chef(s) are very accommodating with food allergies and restrictions. Works for families but not the most family friendly menu. A definite nice treat out!"

  • "over priced and very average would not go back it was nothing that you would not get at a average restaurant I would not rush back here"

  • "Second time returning to this restaurant. Group of 7 to celebrate a special birthday. Right off the bat our fantastic waiter moved us to a more spacious table which made our evening much more comfortable. Very unique appetizers, everyone loved the crab cakes and the cheese and meat board. Main and dessert were fantastic as well. The feel of the restaurant reminds me of being in a restaurant in Banff Springs Hotel. Noise level is very low which makes sharing conversations at the table a great experience. Will be back for sure."

  • "We often come to the Selkirk, either for a relaxing lunch or as a favourite for special occasions. We have never been disappointed. The food is always first class and the service personal and friendly. The background music is appropriate to the venue and enhances rather than intrudes. We have recommended it to several friends who now also return regularly."

  • "Bison steak was tough and average food for the children. Starters was fair but nothing to sing about. Wouldnt go again as have had better steak and food elsewhere"

  • "Love taking Mom here for mothers day. This year we did it a week late. My mouth had been watering for days to try the "Duck Confit" as I had never had it before, but heard about it many times. I was not disappointed.... it was amazing!!!! My Brother had never been there before but he was very impressed by the place & said he'd be back."

  • "We had a reservation for 7 and the table was ready when we arrived. Food allergies were noted in the reservation and the serve already had the adjustments from the chef on which dishes would work and which ones could be adapted and how. We did lunch and it was quiet enough for everyone to enjoy conversation that spanned the length of the table. There were people in there 30s to those in there 90s and everyone enjoyed the experience. The meals were lunch sized but there was wonderful cakes, sorbets and other treat to finish off the meal."

  • "We recently had a lunch at the Selkirk grille. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The quiet background music was pleasant but not overwhelming. The pleasant staff did not hurry us through our meal and we were able to linger awhile over coffee. This is a rare find and we will recommend the Selkirk Grille to our firends."

  • "The angus steak was disgusting and the food was way over priced. "

  • "Our group had travelled to Calgary for the Mother's Day weekend and this restaurant was chosen based solely on OPEN TABLE reviews. The food and service were amazing and the Mother's Day menu was excellent! I definitely would recommend this restaurant and will be dlining here again when in Calgary!"

  • "For Saturday on Mother's Day weekend (Saturday) with a reservation I was surprised to have a table directly in the pathway of the door, especially when other tables were empty. It was a huge bother to our waiter and the hostess to move to another table. The service continued to be poor throughout the lunch. A request for a second cup of coffee when we asked for the bill seemed bothersome. The food was just good nothing spectacular. A disappointment for a landmark in Calgary. "

  • "Went out for a birthday dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the great food and service. I didn't even know this restaurant existed but for Open Table. Reviews said it was quiet and it was, could enjoy a nice conversation throughout our dinner. "

  • "It's been around 5 years but is still a secret....we had the elk and bison and lamb rack (four meals total) and all were superb in taste, in presentation, and accompanied by excellent attention, without intrusion. Reasonably priced for what you're getting, without a doubt. Definitely a return visit is on the books and the bucket list!"

  • "Not to many people know about this place, so it is nice to "get away" and is extremely quiet. Good for a romantic night, or a special occasion."

  • "This was our first time at the Selkirk grill and both my wife and I were really impressed. The menu was diverse and different than the norm. The wine list was excellent. The service was particularly good. We will definitely be back."

  • "This was our first time at the Selkirk Grille. Restaurant was recommended by a friend and the location was prefect for us and our friends. Wine list was fantastic, with the help of our server a selection was paired with our meals. Best red wine I have had! Meals were also fantastic! This will be our first chose for a meal out with family or friends."

  • "The Selkirk Grill is always an outstanding dinner out. The food is excellent in a nice quiet setting. You can enjoy your companions company without having to compete with loud music and louder guests. We love it."

  • "What a great idea for a fun night! The food has always been excellent at Heritage Park venues and the Selkirk Grill's food would make any foodie happy. We loved the mac and cheese with truffle appetizer, the main and dessert were excellent too! Part two of the evening, viewing the movie cars and voting for our favorite, was fun especially with a most enthusiastic, informative host. After a stretch of the legs we were ready for our movie, American Graffiti. Finishing touches included seating with tables for tea, coffee and popcorn, of course. So much fun to watch that movie surrounded by vintage cars, signs and gas pumps. A wonderful way to have a immersion dinner and movie experience!"

  • "Dinner was excellent with unexpected pairings that really worked. We really enjoyed the dinner and the transportation museum in the building. This was our second visit, and we'll return."

  • "Our first dinner here and we chose it to celebrate a dear friend's Birthday. We all loved the nostalgic feel of the dining room, in keeping with the park. All four of us ordered different entrees. Lamb, steelhead, duck and sable. All beautifully prepared. Our server was very friendly and attentive but not overly so, therefore making it a relaxing not rushed evening. We all enjoyed different desserts, one with a candle in it. Without going into detail, I believe there are no bad ones. Looking forward to our next visit. "

  • "Went with young family that was overly fussy and the servers took extra care of us, bringing crackers and adding a little cranberry juice to our kids' water to help soothe them."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "The food came out cold and the price was much higher than I expected. The evening was pleasent and it really was an excellent place for dinner and a movie. We probably won't go back because of the price but we have a pass to heritage park and look forward to the park opening."

  • "My family and I went to the Dinner and a Movie promotion at Selkirk where they show a movie in the venue after dinner. We had a great time and the staff was wonderful. My wife is celiac and the team there created the same meal as on the menu but gluten free for her. Lovely building with an amazing historical car museum in the basement! Great time had by all."

  • "We were under the impression this restaurant was participating in the Dine In Week and booked it to try for that reason. Not disappointed with the restaurant but felt the Open Table advertising was misleading."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us - we never would have thought to go there. The atmosphere was great - nicley decorated, not noisy. The menu had alot of choices and the food was excellent. The only disappointment was 1 dish (lobster mac and cheese) that was bland. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely go there again."

  • "The service was fabulous, and the food - superb. Thank you. We will come back."

  • "When we arrived we waited at least 10 minutes before actually being seated. Our first table was right beside the staff service station, which was less then desirable. We were then moved to a different table, which was better. We ordered our drinks and were served our appetizer from the set menu. It was okay, a bit on the cool side. We were never served any bread for our table, which would have been nice. I ordered a glass of wine with to have with my main, which took a very long time to be brought to be, despite the restaurant itself was not very busy and was well staffed. Needless to say I had finished my main before receiving my wine and we then proceeded to wait about 15-20 minutes for our bill due to some errors with the machine."

  • "My boyfriend and i went here for a fine dining experience, and boy did we get it! The service was pretty great, and the food was outstanding. I had the pork chop with root vegetables, and green salad- very good! My boyfriend had a steak which he quite enjoyed. It was about $100 for the two of us, which is what we were expecting."

  • "The quality of the food and service is outstanding. We had the pork and the chicken dishes, and never have we had such tender portions of each. The food is presented very well, portions are not huge, but we did leave feeling full and completely satisfied. We shall return again! Desserts are fabulous by the way:)))"

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner. We brought two friends along to than them for doing us a big favour and so, of course, wanted to go somewhere nice. We sat near a door on a chilly evening and were delighted to find there were no cold air leaks ... they used to make them right in the old days, I guess. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. Food options were plentiful and interesting. We chatted through dinner and then shared a couple of excellent desserts. Overall, I would say we were well treated, well fed and had a very nice time."

  • "We decided to visit Heritage Park and the menu at Selkirk Grill convinced us to make lunch there a part of our experience. Love the ambiance, very early 20th Century. No noticeable noise levels, although we were only one of two groups present. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. And the food. Oh, the food! All four members of our party raved about their choices, from beef and lamb burgers to the chicken club. And make sure you order the fries, they are easily some of the best I have every tasted. I recommend this place highly to anyone looking for an upgrade to their standard weekend lunch!"

  • "The chef at the Selkirk Grille outdid himself on his selection for Valentine's Day special. The food was amazing and the presentation beautiful. We will be back and will be looking to make many more Valentine's Days a little extra special by enjoying it with the wonderful staff and great food at the Selkirk Grille."

  • "My wife and I had lunch there and both the food and the service is 1st rate. The venue is very unique at Heritage Park and worth going out of the way to go to. We plan to go back and try dinner and brunch menus. Prices are very good value for money."

  • "We were disappointed that this restaurant did not serve brunch items, even though we were there at 11 am. The food was ok - a tad overcooked. The tomatoes were great and so were the fries. It was not very busy so it was quite quiet."
