  • "Second time at Selba and we were not disappointed with the food. The service was a little lacking as the young lady seemed to be having a hard night. Will return but hope for the same service we had on the first visit. We recommend the apple berry cobbler for dessert!!!!!!!!!"

  • "The best gluten free offerings I've found in Richmond. We had diners with us that didn't have to eat gluten free and had the same thing we had and they loved it. The GF Bread Pudding was the bomb! Wonderful food! It did get a bit loud around 8:00PM when the band started playing however we were warned about it. We will be back for sure."

  • "I loved this restaurant. The staff was attentive. The food was excellent. The warm salmon spread appetizer was fantastic and came with more than enough pieces of pita - a pet peeve of mine is having lots of spread left and no more bread - for some reason a very common occurrence. The entrees were artfully presented and large portions, also very good. Many desserts were made in house. We shared a citrus baklava with house made ice cream which was great. The garden room is really lovely and there was a piano player playing very nice background music. It is rare to find live music in Richmond restaurants especially early evening ( our reservation was for 6:30. I was thrilled to find this restaurant and will definitely go back."

  • "Selba was a great choice for our diverse party of 5. We started with the flatbreads and knew we were in for a good meal! All dishes, from shrimp and grits, to seared scallops, to short rib, to the surprisingly delicious quinoa cakes (seriously, my favorite dish) were very well done, well portioned, and tasty. The restaurant was busy but not crowded, and didn't get oppressively loud until the jazz trio showed up. Best experience we had while in Richmond (party of 5 was from San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, and Portland - so, eaters!). Well done!"

  • "Inside was larger than I expected, with a breezy open feel, contemporary and upscale, while still comfortable. The service was impeccable throughout the meal, and the meal itself was exactly what I'd hoped for; fresh, well prepared, flavorful. Mushroom Tart and Pear Salad were enjoyed by all. I had the Pork Tenderloin which I am very much looking forward to finishing tonight (though heating it up will ruin their perfect cook). The Apple-Berry Cobbler w/Salted Caramel Ice Cream was a guilt-laden, but enjoyable finish. I appreciate the farm to table philosophy and local sourcing, and the clearly marked vegetarian and gluten free options were nice. I'll definitely look Selba up again when I'm in Richmond."

  • "Upscale and trendy feel in the front from and "greenhouse" dining room in the back with lots of windows and greenery. The "greenhouse" is nice but not as fancy-feeling as the front room; we were left wondering why they didn't seat us in the upscale section. Most of the food was good- 7 out of 10 for the entrees. Scallops over rice and filet w/ fried oysters & potatoes. Oysters were great, steak was a v. good med-rare. Mac & cheese & bok choy sides were blah, but baked Brie appetizer was amazing. Location is not a good walking scene. Best part was the $35 Groupon covered $85 of food for us! If looking for romantic, ask for front room. If looking for impressive fine dining, go elsewhere, but I would expect an attractive bar scene after 9pm."

  • "food was wonderful, my steak was great and larger than I expected (nice surprise) and the oysters were great. my wife had lamb and she loved it. the sides were very good. deserts were very good too. coffee was wonderful. our waiter was good but he could have been checking on table more often...in other words, it took awhile to get our check and to pay plus he never brought us our doggie bag. we did like selba and we did not mark off too much for the service as they were busy but the waiter could do better with the check and thank goodness we did not have a big doggie bag. we will go back ...great food, the music was good and added bonus."

  • "We gave the restaurant only a fair rating after having a sampling of food by our party of three. No one liked the crispy brussel sprout appetizer. The sprouts were bitter with batter falling away with every bite. The mussels were sweet, fresh but with a bland broth. Both entree ordered were described as good ie: pan cooked chicken and baked pasta, The chicken was served lukewarm. We ordered a side of spinach but told it was unavailable replaced by kale."

  • "Based on several visits to Selba, I have nothing negative to say about this wonderful place. The ambiance is very nice, with a choice of sitting in a more traditional dining room setting, or you may choose to sit in an almost atrium like setting toward the back of the restaraunt. With its own parking areas beside and behind the restaraunt along with free valet, there is never a hassle trying to find a space. There has always been someone to open the doors for the patrons upon entry and exit. The hostess is very friendly and the waitstaff is very polite and knowledgable of the menu. The quality of food is better than establishments whos menus will cost you significantly more. Without a doubt, Selba is my favorite restaraunt in Richmond."

  • "There are so many great restaurants to choose from in Carytown, that Selba often gets overlooked. The atmosphere is wonderful though - whether you are in the sleek jazz bar up front or the gorgeous indoor rainforest-like retreat in back. The menu has lots of great options for foodies and those less adventurous as well - plus great vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options! Give it a try - we had a wonderful experience."

  • "My dinner club of five enjoyed an evening at Selba this week. It was quite good. Very interesting food combinations and decent sized portions. The service was very attentive. Our waitress put up with our hemming and hawing over what we wanted and she nicely figured out how to bring out our varieties of small plates without overwhelming the table. It was pretty loud once the music started up (around 7, i think), so in the future i'll request a table farther away from the stage."

  • "Bought a Groupon voucher for a shared appetizer, two entrees with two sides and a shared dessert; expected a limited selection . We were pleasantly surprised to be able to choose from their very nice complete menu. Ambience-romantic. Service- outstanding. The food was delicious and presentation was appealing. Great for a special occasion. I ordered the lamb chops and my wife ordered the filet with Chesapeake oysters; both were cooked perfectly and the amounts were generous. For us it would not be a regular dining choice due to the price point but definitely recommended for a special occasion. Tip: when making reservations ask to be seated in the atrium, it's beautiful!"

  • "We visited Selba for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday. The atmosphere was very friendly and upscale, our server was great, and the food was delicious. I have a gluten-free diet and was happy to find several gluten-free options on the menu. We enjoyed the jazz, but even being seated in a booth that was a distance away from the main seating area, the music was too loud for easy conversation, thus the 4 star overall rating. I would recommend getting there early enough to order and eat before the music gets started at 7:30.(It would be helpful if the review format could add a "Noise Level" of "too loud." I purchased a Groupon, and will definitely return. Hope to check out the garden room!"

  • "My fiance and I go to Selba every Sunday that we are at my house. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! the food is amazing! The best chicken and waffles ever, their mixed drinks are always on point. Ther service is stellar, and the ambiance is so beautiful! The piano player plays classics and new songs, and it's a fun and whimsical touch. I love this place and recommend it to all of my friends!"

  • "I saw a clip on Selba on Channel 6 Richmond AM program a few months ago. The garden room looked so inviting and the piano music ambiance a nice touch. Not to mention the recommended gourmet menu. My son recently treated me to dinner for my birthday. Selba exceeded our expectations. Delicious food presented perfectly, Brandy excellent server, and a surprise chocolate cupcake w/ice cream and berry garnish. We will definately return for another meal."

  • "I had made reservations and had to cancel on a short notice, only to find myself having to make another reservation for another evening, when I called to make the change, I left a message on the voice machine explaining I had to cancel. I received a return phone call stating that my cancelation was not only done but they also made my new reservation as well. When we arrived, we were met by a host who opened the door, we were then met by a hostess and taken to our seats. They both were very nice and professional. We ordered and the food was both timely and excellent. afterwards, she brought us our jackets and assisted with holding our leftovers until we were ready to walk out. Thank you for an excellent dining experience..."

  • "We were disappointed. This was not a first trip to Selba; in fact, we have frequented it prior to this evening. Through past visits, I have learned to order the steak as it is always delicious. Others in the party, however, went with different dishes and these were some comments: the soup was lukewarm; the grouper was dry and the dish, when served, was cool. Two of us ordered cosmos: they were absolutely awful, just tasted like an orange flavored drink......the Cointreau overpowered everything else so the proportions of that to the vodka, cranberry and lime juice were totally wrong. I think 3 of the 5 of us would go back; the other 2 have already said they will not. I'm sorry to write this but I have to be truthful about the evening."

  • "My parents and their friends had tried Selba about a week ago and said it was a great experience. I wanted to surprise my husband with a nice night out. We were more than pleased with Selba as the dinner choice. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive. Our food was delicious and very fresh! And the best part of the whole meal... The homemade chocolate truffle ice cream!! It was incredible!! We, of course, had to finish every last bite of that too. The mood of the place was relaxed and easy. Wonderful experience and will definitely recommend to others!!"
