Diner Reviews
  • "I found it to be "Just ok". sushi was good, not outstanding. It's a VERY small restaurant, long, narrow, small space. It's comfy but feels a bit "tight". Servers were nice, professional, helpful."

  • "Excellent sushi. Great Poke and chef's sashimi platter."

  • "Eat here regularly - the sashimi is beautiful. Rolls here are not your typical so are unique and prepared as art."

  • "Seiya's sushi rolls were fantastic! The tempura battered California roll (with real crab, not that Krab stuff) was great, the Great Balls of Fire roll was also very delicious. Another very nice thing is that they have a lot of different vegetable rolls (we had the sweet potato and the mushroom) which were perfect for my 5 year old who doesn't like sashimi. The restaurant is a little small so it helps to make a reservation. Definitely recommend Seiya for some great food."

  • "So glad we tried this restaurant! The sushi was excellent!!"

  • "The sushi is very fresh and high quality. The sake is tasty. The tempura is average. The menu is innovative."

  • "We started with a side of their mushrooms, fish tacos (more like open faced sushi on crispy fish skin tacos, better than it sounds) some miso, poke, and then finished off with a hulk role. Poke suffered from octopus but everthing else was great!"

  • "Seiya is the best sushi restaurant in San Carlos....of the other sushi restaurants in San Carlos which are very mediocre. The dishes were unique and flavorful, but pricey for what it is. This could be a great place for an intimate date, but the tables are close together, so if you have a couple loudly arguing - or energetic little kids (as most people in San Carlos think it's cool to use restaurants as a personal playground for their kids to run around and scream), it could ruin the atmosphere. I'd say save your pennies and go up to SF for this. But if you're looking for a unique food dining experience and the other things don't bother you, then try Seiya. It's tasty."

  • "I put it in the average bucket. Food was good. Nothing wrong with it, but not the kind of place I am striving to come back to."
    Dined on 2/5/2014
  • "Everything was delicious. They had some interesting and unique options beyond the classic sushi selections. The appetizer seafood sampler was a great example. I really enjoy the sake recommended by the waitress. I don't know anything about sake so she picked one for me. Portions were a little small and the price was a little high, but reasonable for the quality. Definitely a "special occasion" restaurant as far as I'm concerned."

  • "Amazing food, wonderful service. Freshest sushimi that I have had around in neighborhood, welcome to the area !!"

  • "I can't believe it's taken me so long to go to Seiya. I'm a Mom to a 3-year old and so this is only appropriate for date-nights. The food is inventive and while Seiya offers the usual in terms of sushi rolls, they also have their own versions. Everything we tried was new to us and very enjoyable. It is a small, cozy restaurant with a sleek vibe. I highly recommend reservations as this place is busy and you will have a long wait as a walk-in on a Friday or Saturday night. We will definitely be back."

  • "By far the best sushi: fresh, clean, unique, modern. Love the spicy hulk. You should see the cook using his big knife to make the cucumber wrapping. real crab in the california. Oh and the fish tacos. Like nowhere else."

  • "I love coming here to eat the food is amazing and I am never disappointed!"

  • "I went with a friend and really enjoyed the lunch specials. The maki combo and risotto were excellent - well proportioned and flavorful."

  • "The food was nicely presented and fresh, but the sushi was decent at best, especially for the price. The restaurant atmosphere was relaxing and interesting."

  • "The food was great, both varied and creative, with very fresh ingredients. I ordered a variety from the menu and every single dish was fantastic. Great interior decor, fantastic service, exceeded my expectations and I look forward to another visit soon."

  • "Elegantly crafted and playful twists of supremely fresh fish and meats done in unique presentations. Tuna Tacos... No wraps here, but tempura nori with salmon and hamachi and a Japanese salsa! You'll order more of these! Their skewers are delicious while a bit pricey for the quantity. The Gyu (filet) is perfectly seasoned and cooked. The hotate (scallop) skewers are heavenly. Take a couple of friends so you can try the rich variety of appetizers, you won't be disappointed in their take on fish carpaccios or beef tataki! Truly a place to go when dining to impress. We'll see them again next week no doubt!"

  • "Went to Seiya for dinner on Friday. Very nice meal. Great Japanese menu. Only complaint would be that the wine list was VERY thin. ~ 2 whites, 2 reds. Although - long list of Sake selection (certainly culturaly appropriate). Great choice for a nice evening out."

  • "after sharing $50 worth of sushi rolls, i should be full right?"
    Dined on 1/7/2014
  • "I only wish they would add spicy agadashi and other vegetarian choices to their menu. Loved the stylish atmosphere, water feature, giant door, service was excellent."
    Dined on 1/4/2014
  • "We tried the tuna poke, the fish tacos, chicken wings, uni, and hamachi jalepeno roll. The first two were presented really nicely and tasted good. I would pass on the chicken wings... they were a tad bland. The uni was awesome... loved it. The Hamachi Jalepeno was a little disappointing because it didn't have that spicy kick. Service was awesome."

  • "Seiya is our favorite Sushi Restaurant! And our dinner guest declared that it was now her favorite Sushi spot! Everything is fresh and creative the wait staff is helpful and the ambience is spot on."

  • "High quality sushi with interesting combinations. The Ocean Trout was really good. Not cheap, but cheap sushi is not necessarily a good thing. I would go back."

  • "Excellent high quality sushi with fun & creative other options. Cool vibe...wish it was even bigger with a bar to match! The private room is nice, it seats six comfortably."

  • "A good meal is hard to find in the burbs. This place comes through in spades. I can tell the chefs really enjoy their craft and work very hard to perfect it here. Felt like I was in a great SF location. Service was meh as they made mistakes on our orders, but it was not the chefs faults. I will be back...a bunch."

  • "Small space but intimate. Wait staff a little overzealous, ie. didn't offer coffee/dessert at the end of the evening. Interesting options for a nice twist on Japanese suishi."
    Dined on 11/20/2013
  • "This is a small place that I never knew was here - easy to miss as it really is small. However, the food was excellent! They had interesting sushi as well as cooked food and everything was fresh and very tasty. Because of the size of the restaurant and the quality of the food I would suggest reservations. Enjoy!"

  • "Went here for my sister's birthday and everything was wonderful. The sake, the service and most importantly the food!"
    Dined on 11/6/2013
  • "This restaurant is small and unnoticeable from outside. But the raw fish is really fresh. I like the uni and amaebi. There is not much room for each person. If you like to sit close to each other, this is a good choice. But if you want more room and privacy, you may not want to go there, especially if you have many bags of stuffs, very big coats. There is no room to put those stuffs."

  • "My husband and I love this place. The dishes are so innovative! Try everything even if you think you've had it before. They don't do dishes like everyone else; you'll be pleasantly surprised. Seiya is definitely a treat. We'd go more if we won the lottery!"

  • "My husband and I can't get enough of Seiya's food. Each item on the menu is an interesting spin on the usual Japanese dishes we find around here. And the freshness of the fish and meat makes this place stand out. Don't forget to try some of their salads. My sashimi salad was a work of art!"

  • "We love this place. Its hard to get reservations these days as its so popular. We love sitting at the sushi bar, heck that is what makes it so great. However the other Saturday night, 6:30 reservation .. we were flanked by two strollers and two crying babies!! These parents I thought were disrespectful to the other diners. We paid a sitter to be able to go out and enjoy the evening. The babies kept crying and the parents kept getting up, thankfully. One mother stood rocking the bay while trying to eat. Even if we were in the restaurant area this would have sounded like Dennys. I think the restaurant should at least have a rule that no strollers are at the sushi bar. To pay $150.00 for dinner and listen to that is hard. Food is great though."
