A word from Seersucker
Called "small, but brilliant" by Time Magazine and one of Brooklyn's best restaurants by GQ, Seersucker is a 32-seat neighborhood spot inspired by the food and hospitality of the South. According to The New York Times, "It’s urbane, soft spoken and modern, the kind of place where actual residents of Chapel Hill, Nashville or Birmingham might go on a Saturday night."

Chef/owner Robert Newton, who hails from Arkansas, has crafted a cuisine inspired equally by his childhood favorites and the Carroll Street greenmarket across the street. He relies upon small farms and indie purveyors for many of his ingredients, so the menu changes frequently based upon what's available and in season. Seersucker's beer, wine and spirits list is all American, and the coffee comes from Counter Culture of Durham, North Carolina.

Had a very yummy meal of all fried items. The oysters followed by the chicken. Also, had the house-made ginger soda after a terrific bourbon cocktail. My only wish is that those heavenly biscuits served as a starter were even bigger (yes, they were tasty, and yes, I am a little piggy!).

Order the fried chicken, you will not be sorry. I nearly ordered a vegetarian plate (not that there's anything wrong with that), until the waitress kindly explained that "Hen of the Woods Mushrooms" are mushrooms, and not a game bird with mushrooms as I had misunderstood. Also, the pricey-yet-delicious biscuits that caused controversy on Yelp are now complementary with the meal. Service was also great and they had our meal out very quickly (yet they were not pushy at all for us to give up our table once we were finished).

I really liked this place, especially for brunch. They used to have a great balanced menu with several delicious items to pick from. A few months back they changed the menu and significantly increased prices. They are trying real hard to come up with dishes which match the southern comfort food theme. These are just ok though. Overall, they are just moving in the wrong direction, which is evidenced by the empty tables at time slots in which they used to have long lines of people waiting. Such a shame.

This is my 3rd visit here for brunch. This time I had the fried oysters with poached eggs and grits. I enjoyed it and I'm not a person who likes grits. The oysters were seasoned perfectly. During brunch it doesn't come with a biscuit so we ordered them. They were on point!!! My brunch buddy got the fried chicken an she enjoyed it!

This was our third visit to this restaurant, the second time for brunch, and it was once again thoroughly enjoyable. Everything from the homemade jams and biscuits to the fried oysters with grits was outstanding. Oysters were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. We even had a side of the mac and cheese as an appetizer. Love the food there.

We were so disappointed by our experience here. The ambience was simple chic/faux southern country, and crowded on a Friday night. Competition was stiff to sit at the bar when we came early. They were overbooked. But when it was 20 minutes past our reservation time and two other tables were seated ahead of us and another 2 empty, our goodwill vanished. Unfortunately the maitre d was defensive, when really an apology and a drink would have gone a long way. Once seated, the fried oysters were nice, and the other appetizers tasty and we had an enjoyable meal. Somehow, even really good fried chicken doesn't seem like it should cost $24 though, especially when they treat their customers like farm help.

I dined at Seersucker with a couple of friends on a Wednesday evening. Despite the midweek night, the atmosphere was still energetic. The staff and service were the epitome of friendliness and attention to detail. The complimentary mini buttermilk biscuits melted in my mouth and were served with molasses apple butter and an apricot spread. For my main course, I had the black-eyed peas falafel with hen of the woods mushrooms. Delicious! I would love to come back and try more of the menu. I'd also like to try Nightingale9, Robert Newton's vietnamese restaurant down the road from Seersucker.

Glad we made reservations...there were 5 of us for 7:30 on a Saturday evening. Small restaurant, but the staff handled our very enthusiastic group very well...even when ordering extra apps mid-stream. Attentive but not pesty. The food was awesome - we loved the mini starter biscuits with the salted molasses. If you have to wait as a walk-in, the bar is great, but would not do a walk in for more than 2..not much space to wait. The pork confit special was perfect - melting texture without being greasy, The tator tots that come with the duck breast were fab!

Small, typical Brooklyn joint, but also pretty high quality. My soft boiled eggs were a tad overcooked, but other than that everything else was delicious and pleasant. We took the subway all the way from midtown to do brunch and walk around Brooklyn and didn't regret it. Our brunch was the perfect start to the day. The owner was in attendance, ensuring the machine ran smoothly, and it did.

So Seersucker was great. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. I do think the portions are slightly small given the prices, but the food itself is very good. The fried chicken lives up to its reputation. I do think for such a nice, fancy restaurant the décor could be a bit more luxurious. They have school chair seating and hard wooden benches. I think that some cushion top or pillows are in order. I think they're going for a stark look, but they shouldn't do so at the expense of the diner's comfort. However, given that (and my bad back), I would still return.

Had a lovely dinner with a guest from out of town. It was a perfect spot as we were able to make a res in advance (although we did end up waiting a half hour for our table). Recently went to a group brunch at Seerksucker. The Southern inspired fare was divine. From the perfectly tender and flaky buttermilk biscuits to the done-to-perfection fried chicken and a cocktail list that's charmingly unique yet familiar rather than overly pretentious--the food at Seersucker didn't miss a beat. The wait staff was attentive, prompt and knowledgeable and did not leave me feeling rushed. My only gripe would be the tight space. We had to wait a few moments to be seated and there's not much room for lingering, so I constantly in someone's way. That said, we weren't left standing long, and I will go back again in a heartbeat.
