Diner Reviews
  • "I love this restaurant. There is ample space between the tables. The carpet allows for a greatly decreased noise factor. I could not hear my neighbor talking. The food was excellent. The presentation was exquisite and the spices gave it a flavor, jusqu'au point. It was a great experience. "

  • "Great food. Great amount of food (not too little, just right for the average sized person). Kind and observative staff."

  • "Pros: Atmosphere is very nice. Noise level is quiet. Kitchen is fast. There is plenty of service (lots of staff standing around). Cons: Service was not overly friendly, and seemed indifferent. Food: Food was hit & miss. The calamari ceviche was good. The tomato bisque was nothing special. The pork loin, potatoes, and greens were amazing! The seafood capalini was so-so. 2/3 of the dessert trio were great, but the molten chocolate cake was more like a congealed under-sweetened sponge."

  • "We have always had a superb dining experience at Seastar, both food wise and service."

  • "I have taken clients to Seastar in the past and the experience was excellent. This time was no different. The restaurant is bustling, but organized. The food is exceptional and the service level is top tier. They never make you feel rushed and are always around at just the right moment. A very nice way to treat a business associate to lunch."

  • "Great experience. Usually a large group of nine would be difficult for a restaurant but Seastar performed amazingly. We were seated at a roundtop in a quiet corner so conversation with all was easy. Service was topnotch even with a timeline so that we could make the theater. Pacing was smooth but not rushed, suggestions for gluten-free diners was expertly given. Food was varied and in all cases, well prepared and presented. In all, an enjoyable experience."

  • "We visit Seattle once a year and usually stick to the same restaurants. This year we had heard good things about Seastar and made the switch. We were very impressed! Our server Pedro was wonderful, the wine selection was great and our meals were excellent! Every dish was thoughtfully prepared to maximize the flavors and the presentation was wonderful!"

  • "Our experience here was quite outstanding. We recieved the best service by a restaurant in a long time. Plus the food was outstanding despite being Restaurant Week. The superb seafood and sushi was any foodie's dream. Our final surprise, a delicious truffle in a gift box because to take home because it was our anniversity."

  • "I was discussing which location of Seastar to visit with owner John Howie a few months ago and he recommended the Seattle location and said the service was a bit more formal there. We could not have been more pleased taking his advice. The ancho smoke flavored steelhead fillet over the rustic mashed potatoes simply melted in our mouth and the intense flavors of the 3 components of the Seastar tower appetizer ( shrimp, scallop and crab cake ) made choosing a favorite tricky. My vote was for the shrimp but just by a tail. Service was polished. Try this restaurant."

  • "My husband and I decided to treat ourselves to dinner at Seastar for Restaurant Week. Everything was top notch. Easy, free (after 6) parking, which is unusual in this busy area). I had asked for a quiet table on Open Table, which they provided. Our waiter, Roy, was attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful in choosing excellent wines for our main course. We both got the ancho rubbed steelhead, which was melt-in-your-mouth awesome! My husband got the "trio" dessert, which he gobbled up and pronounced delicious; I got a wonderful Creme Brûlée. Forgot mention the bread--my husband told me, "if you eating, you'll never stop!" I didn't start :). We'll be going to try their fixed price pairing menu, which looks great as well."

  • "We were very impressed with the quality of all of the seafood we had. We also wished that all of us had ordered the thai salad (INCREDIBLE). Loved Seastar and will be back."

  • "Went in for lunch on a Friday. Table was ready. No waiting. Food per usual was excellent. Choices are numerous & enticing. The waitstaff was extremely capable & very attentive to our needs. Will return again & again to work our way through the yummy menu."

  • "We have a group lunch with several co-workers. They have good menu choice and most of our group like the 45 minutes lunch as you can choose 2 out of a long list. In addition, a drink is included to the price. Overall the food price is not cheap as this is an upscale restuarant. We would say the price is overall reasonabale. The restaurant environment is good, lunch is causal and comfortable, servers are friendly and made you feel welcome. We definitely will visit again."

  • "Found the restaurant on tripadvisor, ordered sushi shred plate which was ok but tasteless, and scallops were not cooked in a right way. Wine was correct"

  • "This place has a straight-forward menu, without the innovativeness of some of the flashier restaurants around town. But it's good...and expensive. The environment is old-school, with carpeted floors and a boring design...almost like it's designed for old people. Go here for legit seafood, but not if you're looking if you're for the hottest place in town."

  • "My wife and I have eaten dinner at Seastar at least 6 times, and lunch probably a dozen or more times so I can confidently recommend it. I believe that Seattle has some of the best seafood restaurants in the country, and that Seastar is one of them. What sets it apart is its splendid location, excellent facilities, romantic and comfortably quiet setting, superb non-intrusive service, and one of the best executive chefs in Seattle, John Howie. It is not cheap - we're not talking fish and chips here - but it is superb value, and is not over-priced. It is a lovely spot!"

  • "Can't wait to return for the impeccable service and wonderful food. Can't get enough of the grilled salmon over bacon, hedgehog mushrooms, brussel sprouts and corn sauce. Apps and raw bar were great and our server Eric was attentive, knowledgable and friendly. Great experience!"

  • "The food was beautiful and tastes amazing!!! The ahi tuna- wow! We also got the clams as an app- I could have licked the bowl...seriously considered it."

  • "We both enjoyed the unique foods. We especially enjoyed the salmon with bacon and the smoked broccoli. The service was excellent. If we go back to Seattle we will go again."

  • "The food and table service were excellent, as we have to expect having dined many times over the years at the Bellevue location of this restaurant. The seared ahi was the equivalent in freshness and flavor of any I have had at fine Japanese restaurants in Seattle or Japan."

  • "I'd highly recommend SeaStar for its 45 minute express lunch. I had salad and crab cakes for $15 and they were both delicious. SeaStar never disappoints and the fish selections are vast and tasty. Took an out of town friend who was in for a business meeting and he really liked as well. We'll be back!"

  • "I went there for the day after valentines and the service was great. The weird thing was that they put us on a huge table with lots of lights but if they were to seat us somewhere else, it would have been a little better. The food was pretty great and the service was just right. The smoked apple wood salmon is a great choice as well as the crab cakes and the lobster macaroni and cheese. The clams were kind of sub par but manageable. Overall, this was a great place to dine and great ambience. Would totally recommend it well worth it for the price."

  • "The crab cakes are amazing! The sweet Thai chili beurre blanc sauce under the crisp cakes makes them the best I have ever had. The other food is always good and the service is great. I always feel taken care of and there is never any judgement when you ask questions about the food. Such a wonderful place to enjoy a meal."

  • "We have come here on many occasions, first, for our wedding in 2009, any many times since. The Seastar has always had great service & ambiance, rivaling that of many great restaurants in the Seattle Area. The food has been on and off, sometimes good, sometimes OK. The best is when Chef Howie has been present, the worst is when he's not. The best has been perfect steaks & melt-in--your-mouth fish. At worst, we've had salty steaks, tough shellfish, & dry fish. Depends on the day you go I guess. Wait staff, sommelier, and hosts at the Seattle restaurant are excellent, providing paralleled service every time we visit. Overall the Seastar is a great place we intend to return to many times. Thanks for great memories and many to come!"

  • "We had lunch at this Seattle location. The value is as good as, I can remember. Food was excellent the service was attentive and the price 15 bucks. You can't ask for more"

  • "This place had great seafood. My only real complaints were that our waiter was a little weird and tried to get us to buy the most expensive things on the menu non stop and the wait time between the courses was ridiculous. We spent 20 minutes at one time between appetizer and salad of 25 minutes from appetizer to dinner....mind you were out of wine too. So, that was disappointing but I certainly couldn't complain about the food. The Sushi sampler was AMAZING ($40 well spent). The Cedar plank salmon was perfection and the filet mignon was delicious. Potatoes were very bland and veggies were pretty good."

  • "Have enjoyed dining at this resturant many times and I'm never disappointed. Our dinner that night was to celebrate my husbands birthday. Even though we had no room for desert the staff wished my husband a happy birthday. Clearly they pay attention to notes when you reserve a table. :-)"

  • "We had swordfish and scallops together w/ crab bisque. Both entrees were excellent. It was a special celebration of my son's 25th birthday! I had requested a table w/extra legroom as he is 6'5" tall and we were instead shown a small table against the wall. I asked for another table and was shown the worst location in the dining room, close to the kitchen. I would have left at that point but it was snowing heavily so I simply commandeered a window table where we could watch the snow fall. We were informed this table was reserved for a couple but that they did not want to make us uncomfortable. Our waiter appeared briefly to deliver menus and then went away for about 30 minutes. I would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "The only reason I didn't give Seastar 5 stars is because we had to wait 15 minutes after being seated before we were given menus and asked if we wanted drinks. After that hick up Seastar was ACES! I highly recommend the cedar plank salmon with the chefs superb special seasoning mix. If you get the bananna cream tart for desert, trust me, its fit for 4 people. Ambience and food was great. Service (for the most part) was good."

  • "We recently had a great dinner at a great table. However, getting there was a task. The maitre d' was nice and responsible but his assistant was an unsmiling nothing. She clearly wasn't aware that I was the paying customer. Also, the server was really pushy about getting us to order more than we possible needed. When we told him we didn't want appetizers he went limp and we felt guilty. Not the best way to score a good tip."

  • "SeaStar in Seattle has the same high quality food and service as the Bellevue location. The appetizer Tower is excellent as is the cedar plank salmon."
