Diner Reviews
  • "The seafood was marvelous, amazingly fresh! The Ceviche was lovely, and the scallops were outstanding."

  • "We went to Seastar because we had relatives in town from Montana that had recently gotten engaged. They wanted to have seafood since they don't have much to choose from in that category in Montana. We all were very impressed with our food. We had the ahi tuna, mahi mahi, risotto shrimp and the talapia. We also had the crab cakes for an appetizer and the coconut cream pie for dessert. Everything was fabulous!!! Our waitress was excellent as well! We will definitely be back!"

  • "A friend and I were visiting Seattle for the first time and Seastar was recommended by some friends who live in the area. Every bite of food was delicious. We had the Sea Tower appetizer for 2 with shrimp, scallops and crab cakes. It was beautifully presented and every piece was outstanding. We then shared an entree which was the Hawaiian fish over sticky rice. The server plated the dish separately which was very much appreciated. The blend of textures with a cucumber, mango and nut salsa over the fish with a Thai inspired drizzle was fantastic. We'll be back to Seastar the next time we are in Seattle!"

  • "Seastar is the way to run a first-class restaurant. Excellent, creative offerings that stop short of being too cute to describe with a straight face. Every bite does honor to the chef and the ingredients. Service is balanced just-so between friendly and too-familiar. And it's a place for anyone who likes good food and can afford it. Not cheap but not snooty, either. We were there to celebrate our Anniversary and it felt like a special evening, though we hadn't told them. A table away was a family with five young children. Next to us, a couple of young men in jeans and designer tees, talking high finance. Seastar has broken the code. Turns out to have been simple: attend to every detail."

  • "We enjoyed a meal here with out of town guests and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The server was really professional and friendly and she really added to the overall experience. All of our food was of high quality, fresh and expertly prepared and presented."

  • "I'm a frequent Seastar restaurant goer. I have my favorite table. I routinely book reservations through Open Table. I dined at Seastar three times last week. There has never been any recognition that I am a frequent diner, not even a "welcome back", or "thanks for coming back". On Monday, our server was too personal--making assumptions and using the "are WE having dessert tonight?" It felt over the top. On Wednesday, we were seated, water was poured, bread was brought but our waiter didn't show up for over 10 minutes. Yes it was busy, but this has NEVER happened to me at Seastar. I kept trying to get someone's attention to no avail. On Friday, our server seemed like she did not want to be there. Food is great; service is slipping."

  • "Sea Star was an impressive new find for me in the Bellevue area. It was recommended to me by a friend who after hearing someone on the hotel shuttle talk about going 3 nights in a row, had to give it a try. He and his wife also loved their meal. There were 3 in our party and everyone loved their meal. I had the Copper River Salmon and it was not only delicious, but melted in your mouth. The meals were not only excellent, but were reasonably priced as well. I will definitely be back to Sea Star on my next visit to the area."

  • "John Howie has done it again! The choice, presentation and quality of the seafood at Seastar is superior to anywhere else. A must visit for anyone living in or visiting the area."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "The food was great but the noise was way too loud to enjoy any conversation."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Overcooked fish is dry and not what I expected. The server offered to bring me another that had not been overcooked--she could see it had been badly done--but I didn't want to inconvenience the others in our party. Or kill another fish."

  • "Most previous us experiences very good, with the exception of this visit and our last visit. Hawaiian opa dish very tasty, but fish was quite overcooked, bordering on dry. Appetizers of scallop ceviche and seared scallops done 3 ways were outstanding. A complimentary dessert (birthday) was substandard-coconut cream pie with too sweet thick, pasty, floury custard, hard tough crust. Looked like it belonged in a cafeteria line! Lovely waitress, good service."

  • "Tad noisy. But can get used to noise. Good food. Good service. Amazing innovation in food flavors for "boring" seafood. Pesto clams and ancho rubbed steelhead were out of this world. We did the same treatment to copper river salmon (in season) and blew me away."

  • "Seastar never disappoints. It's a great place to take people from out of town who want to experience a local restaurant and want the best of what the NW offers in seafood."

  • "John Howie has consistently kept the quality, taste, and value of his creations at the highest level. I always enjoy going back for a delicious meal."

  • "My wife and i celebrated her birthday and were treated to a wonderful evening. Her cousin tagged along, and the three of us enjoyed great food, a lovely atmosphere, and the right amount of attnetiveness from our waiter Evan."

  • "Everything was great. My only complaint was that we ordered a second bottle of the same wine ($99. each) and didn't receive fresh glasses to drink from or even sample / taste the second bottle."

  • "Not right change waiter would not come back to table after"

  • "My wife and I had a great time being surrounded by great food and wonderful service. Does Howie not offer dinner specials? We were not offered one by our server which is to bad cause I'm usually a sucker for the chefs creation. All in all, we will return!"

  • "This was our first time dining at Seastar and we will definitely be back. The service was top notch and the food was amazing. They have a large assortment of fresh seafood and the Ono was the best I've ever had! Even better than the preparations I've had in Hawaii and that speaks volumes. Their scallops were flavorful and tender. This is our new favorite special occasion restaurant!"

  • "The food simply couldn't have been better: perfectly prepared vegetables and crab, artfully delivered, and in almost unbelievably ample portions. This is honestly some of the best and freshest-tasting crab I've ever had, and even the veggies alone could have been stars in their own right. The service was without fault on many dimensions: attentive, timely but not meddlesome, caring, fun, and professional. I'm sure that if I thought long enough I could think of how things could have been better, but right now, nothing comes to mind. Well-done, Sea Star team!"

    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "This was a birthday's celebration and everyone was excited to go here. The food was great from appetizers to desert and the server didn't skip a beat. The best meal any of us had had in a long time. The scallops, swordfish and steak were all cooked to perfection. You have to start with their tower and you have to try their Banana Spring Roll Sundae! This will be our new place for those special occasions."

  • "The food was very good but expensive. The special Copper River Salmon was dry and not near as good as the usual King Salmon from Alaska. The wine list contained few affordable wines and was so esoteric that most people have never heard of the wineries that were the source of bottles that cost hundreds of dollars."

  • "First time @ Sea Star: We tried their specialty cocktails. I had a Thai Star drink with a long name...lemony and basil..refreshing and my wife had the blood orange margarita..very tasty. We split a delicious halibut after a tasty Sea Star Raw Bar shared plate. The mignonette overpowered the scallop. Roasted mushrooms from the GF menu were a hit. Others had ono, salmon and swordfish. Each fish was perfectly cooked, and everyone loved their dish. Dessert brought out tropical panna cotta, creme brûlée, truffles and coconut cream pie w/o the crust for the GF folks. All winners. Service was very high end. We had a celiac in our part and our server provided the GF menu and many suggestions and help to make her meal special. I'd return, for sure."

  • "We came here on a recommendation and were told they had a very good happy hour, which it looked like they did, but we missed. Overall the food was very good, presentation was beautiful and the portions were fine, not large but not too small. I had the Dover Scallop appetizer and liked all but one of the three preparations, my husband had the Crab Caesar salad and it was good too. We did not have dessert but they looked good from afar. Server was very friendly and made good recommendations. Location is just okay, not scenic, on a busy corner and the noise level was loud because the place was packed"

  • "No question the food and service is very good! My disappointment stems from the corkage policy. Being use to downtown Seattle restaurants and corkage policy I was disappointed when I was charged a hefty corkage fee. I am happy to pay corkage and expect to pay it when all we drink is the bottle we bring. However, I am use to having corkage waived when we order a bottle off their wine list. We also had port after dinner on this particular night. Maybe I have gotten use to the luxury of not being charged corkage when dining downtown (when we buy wine from them) but I felt like the restaurant was nickel and diming us with the additional charge. Their policy will make us think again before we go back!"

  • "I have been to Sea Star many times but this night I really did not enjoy the service from my waitress. The food was good but when spending so much for a client dinner service at the table was really subpar."

  • "Seastar is one of my "go-to's". It never disappoints. I love taking out of town guests, in this case an Italian client, as they are always wowed by the quality, flavor combinations and presentation. And, thank you Seastar for extending your parking validation to 1-1/2 hours, rather than the one hour allotted before. it seems petty, but just one less issue to deal with."

  • "We selected this restaurant to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. The food was good and the service was excellent. We appreciated the complimentary desert also. The noise level, however, was more than we had hoped for. Perhaps a corner table would have been better."

  • "You can absolutely count on seafood being cooked perfectly here. It is absolutely delicious. I did make the mistake of ordering the cauliflower as a side. We ordered 2 for the table - cauliflower sounded good to everyone. It does say on the menu there are kalamata olives ... well, the dish tasted like nothing but olives. It would have been more appropriate as part of an antipasto plate at an Italian restaurant. The cauliflower was crunchy, too with lots of red bell peppers and the aforementioned olives. I was not expecting that - it should be listed as a salad or appetizer, not a side dish. It's more like a pickle. "

  • "Enjoyed multiple dishes, all very tasty-beautifully presented. Loved small diverse wines by-the-glass. Ceviche-really good, perfectly prepared salmon & the ancho rubbed steelhead. Slow service for the first course, so they comped it without our asking. Loved the entire experience."

  • "Are waitress was spot on taking are drink order rite off and returning shortly with the drinks and answering any question we had about the menu and made some recommendation's. We started with a delicious Maxwell Blue cheese and pear with hassle nut salad that was to die for and some wonderful crab cakes. The Steelhead dish that I had was excellent and I would highly recommend it and the wife's Sea scallops dish was also outstanding and the portions were very nice, wonderful sauces."

  • "I brought a friend visiting from emporium PA, who never sees a fish except in a can, and she was delighted with the Swordfish special. I had the Jambalaya, which was seasoned expertly. We loved the bread with seeds and fruit. We capped off the experience with the pie, which could have fed a large family. The waiter was excellent!"

  • "At a restaurant of Seastar's caliber, I expect everything to be good and the food let me down. Service was great and the atmosphere was good. But I was disappointed with a lot of the food items. The calamari poppers were just not good. On the raw bar sampler, the aki poke was my favorite item of the night but the california roll was mediocre. The romaine heart caesar bordered on awful; the romaine itself was on the verge of being limp and the caesar itself just wasn't very good. The preparation of the pesto sauce on the steamed clams was too heavy and my friend who tried some agreed; sad waste of clams. I also had the kalbi pork tenderloin and that was good. Others enjoyed their swordfish and peppercorn crusted ahi."
