A word from Seasonal Restaurant and Weinbar
Over the years together, Wolfgang Ban and Eduard Frauneder have perfected their own modern take on Austrian cuisine - one which combines traditional techniques, contemporary innovations, and updates to some of their favorite childhood dishes. The team behind the prestigious private catering group, Elderberry Catering, chefs Ban and Frauneder, together with a small group of investors, have opened Seasonal Restaurant & Weinbar, their first venture open to the public. Their goal is to provide elegant home-cooking in a sleek but welcoming setting.

The chefs at Seasonal pride themselves on maintaining the utmost quality in their cuisine, and therefore, consistent with its name, the kitchen uses only the freshest seasonal ingredients. The visual presentation of each plate is the final step in the process, and the chefs have ensured that the look of each plate matches the refinement of the food itself and the décor, creating an unforgettable dining experience.

As someone who once loved living and dining in Vienna, I can say that I truly love...Wallse. But when I couldn't get a reservation there recently, I was grateful this establishment could fit us in. And while they offer many similar dishes to those found on 11th Street, one can't help noticing that the 58th street versions are just a little off...or sometimes more than a little off. Tafelspitz? At Wallse, melt in your mouth delicious. Here -- almost as delicious. Suckling pig? At Wallse, hogs die for a wonderful cause. Here, the suckling pig suckled long enough to dry out, become too salty, and acquire a slightly peculiar aftertaste... Also: Akzeptable - sicherlich; hervorragend, gar nicht.

The delicious culinary fusion of traditional Austrian fare with an upscale seasonal flavoring and presentation made this a unique dining experience. I had the suckling pig and my wife had the Halibut. Both were the best we have ever eaten. Our server was professional and friendly and the presentation appealing.

Seasonal is an absolutely first rate restaurant, with service to match the exemplary food. My wife and I had one of our best dining experiences in recent memory there on Friday. The "smoked salmon" appetizer (smoked in house) was almost too beautiful to eat, with flavors to match. The fresh herbs on it were as fresh and bright as I can remember. Although I ordered red wine for dinner, the Sommelier insisted on giving me a "splash" of bubbly to accompany the starter. Wouldn't have been right without it. This is a great restaurant not to be missed, and should be a regular stop for anyone fortunate enough to live nearby.

You feel in each detail an old central European flavor; always at very high level. The menu does not change, so that you essentially know what you are going to dine. You find Habsburg reminiscences in a quiet, almost insignificant, place. Good selection of Austrian wines

Not really what tou Would expect of a typical Austrian ambiance. Rather satisfying cuisine exception for the so called pear salad. Had a hard Time to find any amidst enormous amount of salad... Prices on the stiff side. Double expressos st 7$ ! Good choice of Wine bythe glass. Service à little rushy.

I went here with my boyfriend for his birthday. German/Austrian isn't my favorite cuisine, but the food was great. What was really outstanding, though, was the service -- it was attentive without being irritating or pushy, and upscale without being snooty. It really could not have been better. They checked my boyfriend's bag, served complimentary small bites and drinks, and made up feel at home. Highly recommend!

this is a superb restaurant with innovative dishes with an Austrian heritage but definitely new school The staff treated us like royalty, eager to have us try dishes we might not otherwise sample and everything was inspired and anything but "standard fare" If you are a foodie with concerns that "Austrian cuisine" might perhaps be an oxymoron, be assured that the hard working, inspired Austrian chef de cuisine is not bound to his grandmothers cookbook, but is inspired by it and her use of fresh seasonal foods. A really wonderful place

My friends and I did not enjoy their food. Oily and flavorless, served on cold oversized plates. Cocktails were uninspiring, wine list ridiculously overpriced. Why paying $80 for a bottle of wine which goes for $12 in the wine store? Towards the end of our meal, chef/owner treated us with an inexpensive Austrian brandy which was really bad. It tasted like one of those food extracts you would normally add to your baked goodies but we couldn't blame him for not knowing any better. Actually, we should because his desserts were probably the worst part of our dinner experience. I have to say this is one of my least favorite restaurants in midtown where I've been living and working for 15 + years.

I was looking for something a little different for my husband's birthday dinner and Seasonal, with it's Austrian based cuisine was intriguing. So delicious! I love the poached egg appetizer and adored the veal cheek goulash. The wine paring was terrific, and my husband had a great time talking to the knowledgeable and enthusiastic sommelier. My only problem now is that I will want to order the same items next time and I really should try some others. But I crave that goulash.

I am always impresses with how consistently wonderful the food is. I have never had a bad meal here. The Wiener Schnitzel is the best outside Austria. It is light and crispy and just melts in your mouth. The rest on the menu is equally impressive from the Sweet Breads to the Selection of Cheeses. I would recommend this restaurant to every time. The wine list is amazing, and if you are new to German/Austrian wines ask for Steven. he is quite charming and very knowledgeable of all their wines.

after several years absence, we had dinner at seasonal again. it was a big disappointment. the restaurant was empty, the air condition was out of order, and the food was uninspired. these were inconsistent with our very favorable memories the last time years ago....difficult to get reservations, vibrant and the best wiener schnitzel. the waiter did not acknowledge or apologize for the lack of air condition on a hot day (until i asked him). the wiener schnitzel was ok, but rather uninspired, a little soggy and of no particular seasoning. all in all, not somewhere i would be returning to anytime soon.

If you're expecting a Viennese restaurant full of gemutlikheit and lederhosn, forgeddaboutit. This place is suave and classy, from the amuse bouche to the after-dinner sweet; but it is the food lin between that makes the evening. I re recommend the sweetbread appetizer (i could easily have eaten two or them, which is a criticism of their quantity and a commendation of their taste), the schnitzel and the veal cheeks, which were sort of an upscale paprikasch. The service was superb, possibly because we ate early and had a lot of attention from the chief honcho. (I hate to sound enthusiastic; I'm usually a nasty critic, but, hey, facts are facts). Anyway, neat-net, go.

This restaurant has earned it's Michelin star. It is excellent! The food is authentically Austrian, and the service is superb. The Wiener schnitzel rivals my mother's and the side dishes are perfect. the wine list is extensive and well conceived. Very pleasant atmosphere and attentive yet unobtrusive service. Had the prix-fixe for $53 (Saturday night price, I think). Watermelon gazpacho, Tafelspitz and Apfelstrudel. All very delicious. My friends had Spätzle and the Wiener Schnitzel. The menu has mostly such Austrian classics and although they are nothing 'hot' or 'new', they are presented nicely, prepared well and taste delicious. Definitely recommend and will be back there as well!

Surprised to find this restaurant almost empty when we walked in at & PM on a Friday night. Food was amazing but restaurant lacks the service to match it. Our selections came too quickly. Numerous service people did not seem to be coordinated. No server or customers at the bar. The popular Wiener Schnietzel dish used to come with three pieces of meat but came with one this time. LOVE the food but want a more personable, classy level of service to accompany it and make it the special meal it should be.

Prices are a bit high but that's NYC! Food was nicely presented and delicious...fennel salad and Wiener Schnitzel were exceptional and good size portions. We shared a side of spatzle and it was very tasty. Large European wine list but we savor Northwest wines and had a Pinot Noir from Oregon. Service was attentive and hospitable. We were looking for a German restaurant near the Hilton but Austrian cuisine satisfied our taste buds! Would certainly return on our next visit!

The food is excellent and quiet ambiance makes it perfect for communicating. There is an adequate wine selection, although I can't understand the high price of wine in NYC. The price was at least 4 or 5 times the actual purchase price. They are no more expensive than any other NYC restaurant, but it is ridiculous. The food is traditional Austrian fare but done in contemporary ways.

Seasonal is a very good restaurant in a dreadful location. With its proximity to Central Park, Carnegie Hall, City Center it should be a terrific location, but many of 58th Street's buildings' main entrances are on 57th or 59th so it is a one-block dead zone in an otherwise bustling area. We were dining early before theater and were the only customers in the restaurant for about an hour. The service was very attentive, exceptional really, and the food was beautifully and creatively prepared. Memories of the lobster and poached egg appetizer, pillowy spaetzle and well mixed cocktails are enough to get me on that block again. And I hope they don't have to wait much longer for a reevaluation by the City to get an A rather than a B rating.

I could easily get over most of the restaurant issues but when the Austrian chef/owner suggests a glass of "lady wine" with your appetizer you may think again whether to order a glass of Pinot Noir or not. A glass of NY water is just fine. If the same person tells you that lobster (used in their dish) comes "straight from the Danube river outside Vienna" you don't have to be polite and node with your head. It's overcooked anyway. When he blows his nose you could assume he's not feeling well but also you may think of sanitary issues, considering B grade note posted on their front door and a bucket placed in the middle of dinning room collecting water drips from the ceiling on a day without a single cloud in the sky. Should I say more?
