Diner Reviews
  • "I would recommend this place to anyone that loves food. Each of our dishes were amazing, but most of all the wait staff made us feel at home. Their attention to detail and their suggestion were spot on. The shrimp and grits was to die for. This is one restaurant that you need to visit."

  • "I took my daughter for a birthday dinner with her brother & a friend. We all liked the food we ordered very much. The staff seemed disappointed that we didn't order alcohol drinks or dessert. Would go again for a special occasion as the prices are high."

  • "I have had business lunches 3x in the past two months. Every time, service was painfully slow. They don't staff enough waiters for lunch."

  • "The food was artfully prepared. I had the scallops and the strawberry salad. Both were amazing. Also, the server was incredible. Prices were normal for the area. I asked for the scallops to be prepared medium and they were spot on. However, we will not be back because of the noise level. I think that this is intended for a late night bar scene instead of a restaurant. In fact, the noise hits you the moment you walk in the door. I believe this owner also owned it when it was Burlap, and Burlap also suffered from this same problem. Go here if you have a first date, or are not a big talker, that way you don't have to worry about straining to hear each other speak over the noise level."

  • "Combination in the dishes is unique and surprising. I like the unexpected. Good staff. I'd consider it hip but if your a downtown hip person not the same area of San Diego Delmar chill"

  • "We were on vacation to San Diego and searsucker downtown is a favorite. We ate there on Tueaday and it was stellar. The del mar restaurant is a poor imitation. The Hamachi was warm, my son's steak was over cooked... but the big issue is we have a 45 minute wait between first course and second. This place does not have the quality or attention to detail of the original. Go downtown."

  • "First time eating at the one in Del Mar and it was not a disappointment. Amazing food, vibrant scene, and friend staff. It is trendy and hip. Reminiscent of the great places in Williamsburg."

  • "I was disappointed that the hostesses disregarded my specific request to be seated at a table "away" from the bar in a quieter area of the restaurant... They sat us right next to the bar under a speaker. My fiance asked for us to be re-seated, which the were happy to. Once we were moved, the atmosphere was very enjoyable. Our server was polite but seemed not too enthused with serving us. We will definitely go again. the food was worth it."

  • "Dinner was actually amazing. Salmon, steak, mussels, drinks... all wonderful. Then we chose a dessert. We had tried a few previously and none had been great. We went for the berry crumble. Total miss, unfortunately. Is that enough to bring the whole rating down a star?"

  • "My dinner companion and I sat outside on the covered patio, near the koi pond. We were immediately served water and asked if we wanted to start with any drinks. We spent some time going over the wine list and the menu and found so many wonderful choices that it was almost hard to choose. They offered a three course option for $35, which gave you a choice of starter, entrée, and dessert. I asked our server for a recommendation on wine basted on our choices, and she made an excellent selection! All in all, great venue, great food, great wine, and great service. I'll definitely return!"

  • "I have some strict nutritional guidelines at the moment, and the staff and kitchen could not have been nicer - they accommodated my needs, and tailored my meal without question. Much appreciated."

  • "The highlight of the meal was the service. The food was very good but the service made the evening better. Be aware that this is a higher price point for several reasons, including the quality of the ingredients, the neighborhood it is in and the decor/ambience of the facility. The restaurant probably does justify the price point but in a competitive market, it will need to do more to stand out, in terms of food. I'm not sure if the reason is due to the current clientele or not, but there wasn't anything that really stood out in terms of pushing the limits of creativity. It seemed to me they were trying to play it safe with the menu which I don't really blame them for. Hint: the duck fat fries were excellent."

  • "This was our first experience at the Del Mar Searsucker location. We've been to the downtown one many times. Very similar menu items, everything very good. I docked one star on the food specifically for the brussels sprouts... they have a better version at the downtown location."

  • "Jc Colon has arrived in Del Mar; creative, farm to table, always interesting interpretations. I have long followed Jc and he has taken his craft to a new level with every move earning him a reputation in SD as one of our finest chefs. Staff like Jason (manager) genuinely make you feel welcomed. Our server Tom, knew this fairly complex menu fully. Gracious service, attentive and thoughtful, I'd sit at Tom's table every time. The entire staff go out of their way to make sure your your experience is really pleasant. A great team, lovely menu, I drive up from the city to go here when I want to enjoy really creative, fine dining in a casual atmosphere with my North County friends... "

  • "We went there for our wedding anniversary because the Gaslamp location is our absolute favorite spot. We got seated quickly, but we asked for a different table since she sat us at an awkward middle table. It wasn't busy and we had a reservation. Then it took over 10 minutes for someone to come take our drink order- and it wasn't busy. Then there seemed to be confusion over who our server was. My food was great, but my husband had the mahi, which was WAY over seasoned. We have never been disappointed with anything at Searsucker, but this showed that both locations just aren't the same. The waiter asked if we were celebrating anything, then he brought us a complimentary S'mores dessert, which was very nice. Good ending to a so-so experience. "

  • "Searsucker did not have my OpenTable reservation. I received a confirmation - I'm glad I did not give O-Table my credit card when our party size increased. The lack of reservation was not a problem @ the restaurant."

  • "Came to brunch for the second time. It was fantastic. We started with the sticky bun and the frosting was incredible! We both had the lobster/chorizo scramble. Soooo good!!! The bottomless mimosas are the way to go! "

  • "Went for mothers day and was pleased with the service and food. We did have to wait about 20 min past our reservation time to get seated but this gave us time to linger into the festive live band bar and order a pre-brunch drink. I had the lobster roll and traded my french fries for my son's salad he got with the BLAT. My husband ordered the baked egg with chorizo and fingerling potatoes. Let's just say my son and I helped him finish it! Really tasty! Especially with the bread from my lobster roll to dip into the yummy tomato juices. Nice way to spend mothers day :)"

  • "After having dined once at Gabardine, I didn't have high hopes for Searsucker. The food was much better though - delicious in fact. All the dishes we had were lovely - shrimp and grits very good; bread pudding very good; grilled cheese tasty, but could have been cooked a little more. I had a request for a substitution that they wouldn't handle which was very disappointing. When you are paying that much for brunch, you should be able to expect reasonable accommodations. Kids liked feeding the koi. Overall - pretty good."

  • "I thought there were a number of incredible attributes to Searsucker. First I loved the outdoor seating, I thought the service was excellent, I enjoyed the free bottomless Mother's Day mimosas, and the food was delicious. I would have liked to see more options on the menu but the options available were great. This is of no fault of the waitstaff or restaurant, the only thing that deterred from my experience were the crying/screaming children--but again that is not to take away from Searsucker."

  • "This restaurant was a big disappointment. You can have a much better meal at numerous other places for the same price. The steak was way overcooked. The burrata was below average. I don't mind music but the music was so loud you had to shout to be heard. Overall not worth it. "

  • "A bit of a disappointment for a Brian Malarkey brand and franchise. Menu options were a bit sparse. Was not greeted nor seated promptly, even though a reservation was made. Our service was just average. Expectations for a bit higher quality overall. With so many food venues to choose from, this is definitely not one of them."

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Searsucker again the other night. It was our second visit back since the transition from the terrible, horrible, awful Burlap. To their credit, the bus person remembered us, as well as our waiter from our earlier visit, who actually came over to say hello and shake our hands. The food was delicious. Our waitperson was absolutely wonderful. But, the music was so loud, we were nearly sorry we came back! Let me state for the record, that we love music. In fact, music is my business! We were a party of four, and literally had to yell at each other to be able to carry on a conversation. Not cool! We didn't recall that being the case on our earlier visit. Hopefully it was a one-time occurrence..."

  • "Very disappointing. I always get the table by the koi pond which ensures that I will be forgotten. Service was so below par. Food was mediocre. Won't be returning. "

  • "Our first dining experience was great! We enjoyed the food, ambience and service, but this time it was horrible! The service was good, but that was it. The 2 "raw" appetizers we ordered were worthless. No taste and very small in size. The mushroom dish was okay, but salty and the beet salad look like it had been thrown together. Plus the greens were dry and somewhat wilted. The only good thing was the wine. Very disappointing because we wanted to add it to our "faves" list. "

  • "My husband & I have been searching for a decent Saturday champagne brunch for years. Searsucker Del Mar was exactly what we've been looking for! Not too crowded (we made reservations through OpenTable) and great outdoor seating on their patio. They have a bottomless Mimosa and their menu has a nice variety of items for just about anyone to enjoy. Great service & kind staff. Will definitely be back!"

  • "I've been to the Searsucker downtown and this one is just as good; similar décor and ambience, only this location has a outdoor patio, complete with a coy pond and gigantuous clam shell. We started with the mushroom burrata appetizer and it was too good for words! Highly recommend that as a starter to share. I ordered the scallops as my entrée (again...amazing!) and my date ordered the Farro vegetarian plate. Absolutely beautiful display. They turn food into an art form. I'm definitely coming back!"

  • "We ordered the egg + bacon pork belly, spicy shrimp and bacon grits and the pork butt all the dishes were cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. All the staff was friendly and attentive, I would like to thank our server Sam for the meal recommendations and the excellent customer services. "

  • "I had heard about Searsucker, but never been there. I went in sceptical that we were going to have an experience that would equal the price. I expected it to be expensive. The food was excellent, all of it. Out of two apps, two entrees and a dessert, plus the cocktails were awesome. I would highly recommend it and plan to be back soon."

  • "This was my second or third time at Searsucker Del Mar. I have also been to the downtown location. I always expect more, and have decided the food is just OK. Service is good, decor is fine. Also, I tried to get a 6:30 reservation and was told 7PM was the earliest available for a party of 5. I arrived at 6:15 and the place was empty (it was a Tuesday night). We had no trouble being seated at 6:45. It would have been nice to secure an earlier reservation (like I requested) since they had plenty of availability. Slight inconvenience, but not a big deal."

  • "This restaurant was such a nice surprise! We went for Easter Brunch and the prices were great, the food even better. The atmosphere was very energetic, the service was outstanding and we were very satisfied with the food. It is a little out of our way, but well worth the drive. My hats off to the very friendly and serviceable staff."

  • "Acoustics made it impossible to hear the person I was dining with; the food was too salty, the fried chicken had an after taste and the slaw was dripping in sauce; sat for a long time awaiting a server; then waited a while for the wine to arrive; the server then proceeded to pour about a third of the bottle into one glass! "

  • "We had a great time - service was excellent, food was amazing! We opted for the server's suggestion and ordered several small plates to share - my husband had a great time and said all the food was interesting and creative. We would def. come back. The restaurant was pretty quiet - I guess Sunday's are slow there?"

  • "Loud, oblivious patrons contribute to the ambience of a boiler factory at full production. The food is...peculiar. Over salted, or tasteless. Someone must think this is imaginative. No, it is only bad."
