Diner Reviews
  • "My family LOVES Searsucker. They do a great job of making dining an adventure. Nothing more to say!"

  • "Loud, oblivious patrons contribute to the ambience of a boiler factory at full production. The food is...peculiar. Over salted, or tasteless. Someone must think this is imaginative. No, it is only bad."
    Dined on 4/7/2014
  • "Mediocre food for crazy prices. Even the beer was bad."

  • "Nicely tucked away in the far corner of the shopping center. searsuckers did not disappoint. My reservation was ready the moment I arrived and they graciously re-seated when one of my guests was chilled by a seat near the semi outside area."

  • "While it was very good and a fun place...service was great...the food was just okay. We had a party of 6 and everyone said pretty much the same."

  • "I've been dying to go to Searsucker for 3 years so I was super excited to go. I read all the reviews so I ordered all the fave dishes. Everything was fantastic- muscles, mushrooms and burrata, tuna tartar, duckfat fries, and smores bar (divine!). Love Brian Malarkey and super excited to try out his other restaurants!"

  • "Really? DJ in a restaurant? He was blasting noise er, music to a handful of diners who were forced to cease enjoying any meaningful conversation. Really? Yes, it was Saturday night after 10pm in del mar in a shopping center. I think we departed the patio area of the wannabe disco by 11:30pm, expecting to see party goers in the main room. It was empty! Searsucker searsucker sucked"

  • "Eclectic motif that gets in the way of a great experience. The food was big in taste, yet, portions were small in size. The staff was extremely friendly, while being under trained. The viewable kitchen was the best part. Lastly, Valet parking is over kill and not necessary."

  • "Food was very good as was the service, just very noisey. Over all good if don't mind the noise."

  • "We had dinner for two and ordered a number of food choices to share. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly. The french fries with the house ketchup was excellent. I recommend you try them. The happy hour has many fun cocktails choices also. I was very pleasantly surprised to find an excellent, fun restaurant in the neighborhood just a few blocks from my home."

  • "Restaurant is beautiful. It is huge and there are many different sections so it is able to host all different parties. The bar is huge and is great for socializing. The food was not very good though. I was very dissapointed. I'll rate the appetizers we ate for you: Cheddar Puffers- C, Tomato Soup- C, Squid sweet heat- F (this was so bad we sent it back, smelled very fishy too), Mushrooms- B, Cobb Salad-A, and the best dish of all the Short Ribs-A+. We had a honeycomb dessert with vanilla ice cream that was not very good either. I rate that a D. Overall not impressed with the food and will not come back for meals. I would come back for drinks with friends maybe."

  • "We chose Searsucker to celebrate my mother in law's 88th birthday and I'm sorry to say it was not a pleasant experience. The restaurant was practically empty so the music level was extremely loud-probably set for when the restaurant is full, but we could barely carry on a conversation. The entrees were expensive and poorly prepared - very dry and unappealing. My mother in law ordered the duck breast which arrived dry and with almost inedible yam slices that were so charred they were black not caramelized. The meat was tasteless. An awful dish. Dessert was good, and so were a couple of the small plates we ordered, but I will not be going back. I felt like a (Sear) sucker when I got the check. For what I paid, I did not get my money's worth!"

  • "We really enjoyed Seersucker. Loved the atmosphere and food. I had the salmon and my husband had the hanger steak both very good. Service was prompt and attentive. Would recommend this restaurant and plan on going back soon."

  • "I went to the Searsucker downtown many times. First time at this one in Del Mar. We had to send back the chicken because it was spongy and tasteless. They comp'd it by giving us free dessery but I'd rather have the entree better. Not sure if I'll return back."

  • "Very nice Sunday brunch on patio. Quiet and very attentive staff. We were at 10AM, and that's when they open, so it was very peaceful. Food was creative, prices were decent."

  • "It was really too loud to be enjoyable. The food was awesome but when you can barely hear the person next to you, it takes away from the enjoyment of the evening."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "I had the crab cake sandwich minus the bread and my guest had the pulled pork sandwich both dishes were excellent. I would like to thank our server Jeff for the outstanding customer service and I look forward to dining at Searsucker soon."

  • "The Yes Team added a huge plus experience! They should be there often!"

  • "Went here on a Friday night and even though it was slightly packed, they were able to seat the two of us quickly. From the moment my date and I stepped in, all the staff were really friendly. The menu was a bit small (only one side of a menu page) but had a variety of foods. The food came out quickly and was bursting with flavor and was so delicious. The service was a little slow (it took about 20 mins to get our check or refills on drinks) but the waiter was very nice and helped out with the menu options and wine list."

  • "Just amazing!!! Took my time and savored every last bite. Appetizers, main course and desert were all A+++."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "The good was fantastic! We felt a little rushed by the waitstaff to order and eat, but everything else was delightful!"

  • "After asking out a beautiful girl I'd had my eye on for a while, she suggested Searsucker due to its recent feature on the Travel Channel. We booked a reservation for Sunday brunch and chose to eat outdoors. Our waitress was very friendly and I was relieved to discover that she didn't have the same snobby-sounding tone as the guy who took my reservation over the phone. The menu had several interesting choices, including a "Rasta Eats" section and some pretty epic Jameson-infused ice cream. Technically the ice cream isn't served with brunch, but they were able to accommodate. My only complaint is that I asked to have the remainder of my meal boxed afterwards, but the waitress took my plate without boxing it. Overall I'd rate them an 8/10."

  • "We made an Open Table reservation for 11:15 brunch, our food didn't get served until 12:10. No apologies/explanation for the slowness of the kitchen from the wait staff until one of us complained to the manager. Good food, but horrible service."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "The specialty drinks were amazing! I tried 2 different kinds and tasted another 2, they were all delicious. Try the Jalaberry Strawpeno."

  • "The food was very delicious and they had a lot of unique ingredient pairings which was the main draw for going here on Valentine's Day weekend. I wasn't impressed by the service, however. Our server was pleasant, yes, but we felt rushed and that's the last thing I want to feel at a nice restaurant or a special occasion. We ordere, drinks and an appetizer, and then we ordered our meal. My salad came out immediately so I couldn't finish the appetizer and when she delivered our desserts and coffee she dropped off the bill saying, "no rush." Kind of contradictory. :-/ Our entire dinner was less than an hour so it wasn't like we were stalling and holding up table. Overall, the food was good but I left feeling like it wasn't an experience."

  • "The last time we were in Searsucker, it was called Burlap, with a completely different menu. The change to the new format means we'll be going back more often."

  • "Booked dinner just because my daughter was in town and had heard great things. Meal and service was outstanding. I mean really outstanding. Every course was so flavorful. The staff was so attentive. Looking forward to going back when it's not a "holiday" so we can try out the full menu"

  • "I really liked this restaurant. The food has good flavor. The only two criticisms I have are that the portions are small and for two of us gratuity of 20 percent was automatically charged to our bill. The waitress forgot to bring our wine and the first plate came out close to the second dish so I didn't think we got 20 percent of great service. Overall however, the food was good but don't expect generous portions."

  • "The food was excellent, the menu was new and refreshing. Music was Great. We loved the decor and the dualing bars. My only complaint was the noise level. We had a hard time hearing each other speak."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "The food LOOKED from the menu as if it would be great for foodies, and when it arrived at the table it was presented beautifully, too. Unfortunately, however, I was underwhelmed by the actual taste of it. I don't think it was just an off night… we tried a number of dishes, and although I could see what they were striving for in terms of the combinations of flavors, etc. it just didn't execute at the level a restaurant of this caliber should be executing at."

  • "Went here for my birthday brunch with a group of 5, and we had a blast! Sunday brunch had live music on the patio which was really fun and set great vibes. Food wasn't my favorite, but the ambiance, drinks and service were SPECTACULAR!"

  • "I hosted girls night for my closest girlfriends. We had a blast. The prices were just right. All we did was order small bites and shared several different things and it was all excellent. Our server was great. She recommended all the right dishes for us."

  • "Our waitress served us well. We requested a new drink; she got it without complaining. We requested more syrup for pancakes (Sunday brunch); again, she got it without complaining. Great service."

  • "Enjoyed a really great meal. There were four of us and each totally loved the food. Recommend it strongly and would absolutely go back. Sitting out in the back patio area was good--the inside was awfully loud--that was the only potential downside."

  • "Recommended by coworkers, this place lived up to our expectations. Dined on a Sunday night and the place was steady. The spacious dining area was nice, a little noisy for the amount of people there. The food was good, the desserts better."

  • "It is a very good place to eat, have some cocktails and enjoy music in the bar Saturday night..."

  • "This was our first visit and we'll go back, I'm sure. The food was very good (I started with the calamari - excellent). We did think the noise level was a bit too much (there was live music), but not intolerable."
    Dined on 1/23/2014
  • "Hadn't been to Searsuckers since it was changed from Burlap. Like the new decor and crowd is much more sophisticated. Food was good but not outstanding, but service was slow. The biggest problem is the noise level. It's hard to hold a conversation without screaming at each other. Probably a good place if you're looking for a bar scene, but not if you're out with friends and want to talk. Would love them to add some baffling to ceilings so deaden the noise level."

  • "Had 6:30pm reservations and was seated almost immediately..Our waiter was very helpful and knew the menu and gave some advice, when we asked, about what to order..The food came in an acceptable time frame even though it seemed pretty busy, most likely because it was Restaurant Week, It was pretty to look at and delicious to the taste..Out server also let us know when we were seated that happy hour was going to be over in about 10minutes and to be sure and get the drink order in..which we really appreciated.I plan to get some of my co-workers together and try the happy hour it looks very interesting."

  • "Ambience rated fair because of the noise level. We sat on the patio and is was possible to have a conversation. Had we been in the main dining we would have been shouting at each other or silent."
