Diner Reviews
  • "Very good food Loud inside but tolerable Great drinks"

  • "This was a large restaurant but had a bar area, a more private dining space as well as the main restaurant. Great ambience, excellent service and lovely food. Would definitely come here again."

  • "My wife and I had dinner during our honeymoon. The food was great, and the atmosphere felt like you had found a local gem. The staff was very friendly, even bringing over complimentary sparkling when they heard about the occasion. No concerns over noise level at all, highly recommended."

  • "I went to Sskr with my GF. Made the reserv for 2. Got there 10PM. The host immediately took us to a table for 2, the majority of the tables were for parties of 4 or more. They show us our table, right next to a STEEL POLE that was at least 6 inches wide,it blocked our view to the side. We ordered drinks and dinner After our dinner, we decide to pay our check and move to a table closer to the bar. Suddenly this security guy comes to us and tells us those tables are for reservations only, and if we can please abandon the table and go to the bar. After just spending $200 dlls I was already being kicked out! I was furious! I complained to the guy and exited the restaurant! I still can't believe they treat their customers like trash."

  • "I had found this place on Yelp as a good place for brunch, and I am so happy that we went. The host was laid-back and friendly, calmly setting up a four-seater outside for the five of us because my aunt wanted to bring her dog. We all ordered different dishes and they were all delicious. I especially loved the green eggs and ham that I ordered: it was a fatty piece of pork cooked to perfection and served atop an egg-in-the-hole-style toast. I could have cried. The waitress refilled my cousin's orange juice when requested, and everyone was just accommodating and lovely. Definitely go. Their cocktail menu also looks spectacular, although we didn't try any when we were there. If I lived in SD, I would be here every weekend."

  • "I love Searsucker! Great food, great staff, very fun atmosphere. Had a blast sharing the small plates w/my hubby. And the dirty martinis w/blue cheese stuffed olives were-AMAZING!!! Highly recommend."

  • "Everything we had was delicious, but most notably was the filet! You could seriously cut it without effort with a butter knife. Magnifique!!"

  • "Overall, we had a good brunch. However, we had 2 issues with the brunch. First of all, our reservation was at 10:30am, a full half hour after bruch starts. Several of us had seen the "man-mosa" online and wanted to try it, but our sever told us "the purees were not ready." He never came back to tell us when they were ready, so we all had coffee and a sober brunch. Everyone liked their food, except for me. I ordered the crab, lemon, and avocado Benedict. The eggs come on cheddar biscuts, the crabcake is totally seperate. it is not a crab benedict. it is cheddar benedict with a crab cake on the side. you should put that on a different part of the menu."

  • "Small portions, poor service, expensive and great drinks"
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "The only vegetarian option was some gnochi type dish that was pretty flavorless. The husband enjoyed his steak but it was tiny! It is definitely going to put a big dent in your wallet if you want to leave full..."

  • "We left the Padre game early to make our Saturday night, eight o'clock reservation and were very please that our table for six was spot-on ready for us. Unfortunately, we left upon being seated because of the deafening noise level. We couldn't even hear amongst our group to decide whether or not to leave - that was enough right there to tell us to go. Having been there on a Tuesday evening in April, and having a fantastic birthday dinner (60th celebration), we decided to bring back guests to share our previous positive experience. We will return, but not with guests and not on a Saturday night. We were pleased we were able to find another spot in the Gaslamp without a reservation by 9 o'clock that same night though!"

  • "Great ambiance - I really enjoy the low light atmosphere and industrial decor as well as delicious drinks, food, and dessert! Pretty much loved everything we ordered including the pork belly, brie, mushrooms, pork butt, and duck. Had the bone marrow and duck fat fries on a previous visit and those were amazing, too! Finished it off with the brown butter cake which was rich and delicious with strawberries, honeycomb, and honey ice cream!"

  • "Great food, great service, cool scene, just a little loud for conversation."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "Overrated for the price. Food was unseasoned. More children than I would expect in a fine dining establishment."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "The food is wonderful. The appetizers came out in a perfect timely manner, the wine recommended was spot on, and the service was absolutely proper. Dessert was simple but flawless."

  • "We had such a great time at Searsucker. We brought along our 8-year-old daughter and she even loved it. The food was some of the best we've ever had. I highly recommend the scallops!"
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "Fresh, innovative and delicious food. The Spicy Shrimp with Grits is sublime. Very high energy and high volume diningroom . In spite of some sporadic server issues, I go back every time I'm here. 5 and counting."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "We found Searsucker to be a fabulous find. Unique food that was fun to eat, flavors were great and quite a variety of good choices to try."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "Went with a group of four friends...the best thing we ate was the pork butt. Overall it was a good experience, but the loud music and overall noise level made it so difficult for us to talk....everything needs to be brought down a few decibels."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "We thought it was pricey, but ended up ordering a tomato soup with a grilled brie cheese sandwich that turned out to be wonderful. Perhaps If we are more daring next time everything else will be wonderful. The salad is what I call the "funky" lettuce, not the wedge or caesar. Some may love that, not my thing. Extensive appetizer menu. Don't know if there was a patio, extremely large. Perhaps there is a night scene that we were too early for. Right in the gas lamp district."

  • "We took my husband there for Fathers Day and we loved it. The food was amazing and the decor and atmosphere was super cool. The only 1 downfall was even though it was kind of kid friendly there didn't offer kids options. They had to order 1 thing and split. Other then that 2 thumbs up."

  • "Overall, enjoyed Sunday brunch. Everything was good. The place is noisy due to high ceilings, so not particularly conducive to conversation. I picked "energetic" as noise level, since that was the only choice, but would have chosen noisy. The items on the menu were interesting and the waiter was attentive. What I didn't like is that I returned from the bathroom and the waiter said to me "he ordered you a bottomless Mimosa, is that ok?" referring to my husband. I answered "sure" then after he left my husband said he hadn't ordered one for me, but had told the waiter I may want one. The bottomless mimosa was $15 and I may still have ordered it, but didn't like the sales method employed. Overall, though, an enjoyable brunch."

  • "Food and service were good, but music was very loud and very bad. Pumping dance club music, had to yell to talk. Otherwise everything was fine"
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Went because of the high praise from others and appearance in San Diego Magazine's Best Restaurants list. We were expecting a more refined experience. The food was good but not out of this world; service was tolerable but nothing special. Prices trended towards the high side. I could see myself enjoying lunch here but, overall, I found it overrated."

  • "I love Searsucker. Plain and simple. The food is fresh and prepared beautifully. On the "must have" lists - Duckfat Fries. man oh man.... also the Porkbelly and Egg is also scrumptious. Searsucker also has unusual cocktails. One that I crave and must have when I go is the Peter Rabbit. A pimms, lemonade, basil glass of heaven served with a pickled carrot and a basil leaf. Unusual, refreshing and delightful."

  • "The food was amazing especially the bacon and egg appetizer, shrimp and grits. The one negative was our steak was a tad over cooked and was not medium rare. I would give it a four and a half rating because of the steak. However the sauces on the other dishes were amazing and I'd definitely go back and definitely recommend."

  • "Service was exceptional. Ambiance is nice. Food was just ok. Having dined the previous week at Juniper and Ivy, Searsucker was just a notch below."
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "I got the feeling as if this was a new restaurant and not a local favorite. The host barely looked up when we walked in. Couldn't even stop taking with another hostess to say hello. Stood there quite awhile before he simply said, "name." Not my idea of a welcoming greeting. Thankfully, the server and food helped alleviate our innitial off-putting. But as we were leaving not one of the four people at the front said goodbye nor good night. I can't believe these people are the first and last impression of an otherwise fine establishment. Shame. "

  • "I ate outside on a Friday night and it was pretty noisy! I sampled a lot of things on the menu- squid, pork butt, "cowboy caviar" beet salad- it was all great and had a super caramel chocolate creation for dessert. I would certainly go back"
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "Nearly always a great choice. Very reliable service, great scene. Perfect place to meet w/friends. Excellent menu. Solid wine list."
    Dined on 6/5/2014
  • "Took 15 min to get a servers attention to get greeted and order wine, they decided to pay attention to the larger parties next to us. Took 30 more min to get 3 apps, 2 were cold and one was so salty (the mac& cheese) we sent it back. we skipped entrees and bailed after that 1.5 hours later, for fish tacos down the street. Might be good for picking up chicks/guys at the bar but I'd advise to save yourself a c-note and head somewhere else."

  • "You should definitely believe all the rave reviews - this place is great. Among the table we had shrimp & grits, dates, and mussels. All were bursting with flavor. Entree we had the yellowtail - cooked well, seasoned appropriately to still be able to taste the fish (I hate it when places drown fish in chutney and other ridiculousness). Our waiter, Scotty, was super busy but always attentive and friendly. All in all, Searsucker is a safe bet when trying to find a solid, delicious meal in Gaslamp. "

  • "Is the third time I go to San Diego and is the second time that I go there. I had to come back the food is great, the service is the BEST!!!, and there are a lot of handsome guys at the bar"

  • "Seriously enough to get me to come back over and over again"
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "The food is great. The wine list good. Service was very good. It was way too loud, making it extremely difficult to have a conversation. The loud music detracted immensely from the whole dining experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend . Also traffic and parking was atrocious. First and last time I dine there."

  • "Searsucker had a great atmosphere at the bar and energitic host that made you feel welcomed. My girlfriend who doesn't like fish order the Halibut and absolutely loved it. I had the scallops and I liked it but have had better. Service was great and drink menu was enticing. "
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "I had ono. It was overcooked and not very flavorable. Others in my party were happy with their selections. I should have sent the ono back but that would not have corrected the flavor. Know they try to be creative with dishes, but this one was a failure on two counts. Sorry"

  • "I went here twice during a recent trip to San Diego as Searsucker was on the eater Hot Map. If this is a representation of the best San Diego has to offer, need to look for new restaurants. The menu sounded amazing, but dish after dish was under-seasoned. I so wanted to like this place, but it felt like all the small details were missing."
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "small plates, salads and desserts were wonderful, but many of the fish entrees were under-seaseoned. a bit disappointed."
