Diner Reviews
  • "Second time dining here, and all we do now is order a bottle of house wine and five apps plus dessert. Such a fantastic way for a couple to dine and linger a while. The eggs and bacon small plate was our favorite, the marrow not so much. The wine was warm. Red wine should be high 50s. Thank you for the ice bucket to cool it down. We'll be back."

  • "My date ordered a glass of Chardonnay. They didn't ask what kind and brought the most expensive Chardonnay in the joint. I didn't know until the bill came. We got in at 5:45, the entrees didn't get there until 7:20. Both the ahi and yellowtail were over cooked. The waiter had an attitude after I showed displeasure about how slow the food was. Overall a disappointing experience. Searsuckers suck. Will not go back."

  • "My girlfriends and I went here because we knew the chef was from Top Chef and loved seeing what he prepared on that show, so we thought we would give his restaurant a go. It was incredible! The small bites, main course, and especially the dessert was perfect and so flavorful. The flavor combinations were so creative and fresh."

  • "I've walked past Searsucker numerous times but decided to try it. I'd recommend sharing their small plates to get a taste of their menu. The mussels with beer and chorizo was great as was the short rib. Need comfort food? Try the duck fat fries. They had a decent wine list and the service was great. A bit pricey but overall a good experience."

  • "My wife ordered the filet and found it very chewy and hard to cut. She ate maybe half and gave up, when I looked the filet had large tendons throughout, she told the waitress about it and her comment was. " Oh I'm sorry but at least you ate most of it." We were shocked at her comment to say the least and she left and came back and said she would comp a dessert for us and that we would probably only need one since we just finished two whole meals. We asked to see the manager, he came over and we told him what had transpired and he said, "We are sorry that you had a bad experience but please don't take it out on my server." Really? SO even though the other food was great, we will probably never go to this restaurant again."

  • "Food and service were good but small plates came very quickly and after an hour and a half we were told the next reservation had arrived and the waiter brought his suggested dessert and the bill. As a party of four with empty tables around us we felt the entire meal was rushed."

  • "Everything on the menu sounded delicious but just missed the mark. The duck fat fries were limp and super greasy, the bone marrow was masked by a sweet syrup, the Brussels sprouts were soured with too much vinegar. The s'more dessert however was awesome. Our server was really great, very nice and helpful. I would try it out again for sure"

  • "we live here, but rarely eat out downtown. this place is exactly why! it's loud, touristy, and overpriced. exactly what you expect from a downtown local. but it's perfect for the convention crowd looking to cut loose."

  • "We take all of our out of town guests here and Searsucker has hit it out of the park each and every time. Even when things don't go perfectly, the management is quick to make it right. Love having a place like this to go here in San Diego for every occasion."

  • "What a fabulous place! We asked our waitress for her favorites and then just followed her advice (except for one side and we immediately wished we had taken that recommendation too!) Fresh foods, original combinations of flavors that just make even brussel sprouts To DIE FOR! I can't quick thinking about those things…grilled scallops with salmon caviar…yep, my mouth was doing a happy dance. AND THEN there was brown butter cake with honeycomb ice cream….you just have to taste it to appreciate it…will go back every chance I get!!!"

  • "This was my first time in San Diego and I chose Seersucker by its name and the menu I read online. The photos on the website gave me a good idea of what to expect although the menu was not the same. The waitstaff were personable and efficient and the food was good. There was one issue when the rare sirloin I ordered came closer to medium. The waitress checked on me and, when she saw the meat, she whisked it away and brought a rare one very quickly. That took my experience from disappointing to a terrific first night in San Diego."

  • "Horribly loud restaurant makes conversation with dinner companions almost impossible. Food was very good but needlessly expensive. Aside from the desire to eat at an "in" restaurant run by a celebrity chef, I don't understand why anyone would purposely subject themselves to the expense and inconvenience of this place."

  • "ITS TOO LOUD IN HERE, WHAT DID YOU SAY? Great food, 30-foot cathedral ceilings, a hopping joint - it all works without the DJ and his incessant bass boombox-type music. Wait-staff couldn't be friendlier and polite; menu options couldn't be more tasty, interesting and different, and the hipness of the place needn't be measured by decibels especially given how many parties of 8 we counted and people at one end could not possibly hear what was being said at the other. "Energetic" is the last option above: "Not likely to return because it's deafening and uncomfortable as a result" is what should be indicated!"

  • "I love Searsucker. I am from San Diego but live in Los Angeles now. Anytime I'm back in my hometown, I want to eat here. I also met my wonderful boyfriend here 4 years ago so it holds a special place in my heart. The food is always phenomenal to say the least. I had the mahi with Drunken cherries and almonds. Boyfriend had the filet. It was cooked to perfection. The Brussel Sprouts are AHHHMAZING! We order them every time we eat here. If you enjoy crafty cocktails, try the Peter Rabbit. I had When Doves Cry it was sooo good (I don't like tequila but this drink was perfectly made). Herringbone just opened in LA. If you could open a Searsucker here, that would be WONDERFUL! :)"

  • "The chicken dinner was raw in parts and probably the worse dinner I have had in years at a supposedly great restaurant. I should of sent it back. My husband's maui maui was good. Will not be back. Very dissappointing."

  • "Celebrated our one year wedding anniversary here....food was absolutely delicious...waiters service was impeccable and extremely quick. Restaurant was extremely busy but that didn't slow down staff. Excellent teamwork amongst all members from hostess to busboy to waiters. Couldn't have asked for a better night. Definitely a bit loud but mostly because people were happy and having a great time. Will definitely make this a regular stop when visiting gaslamp from now on."

  • "While the service and the environment were both wonderful, nothing can outshine the food. My husband, 2 friends, and I went there for Brunch on a Sunday morning. We were drawn in by the $15 bottomless mimosas, which was a great deal, but we will go back for the food for sure. The food was excellent, everyone was so happy with their meal and we actually had an argument over whose was the best because they were all that good. I would recommend it to any one easily. It's definitely on the top of the list for places I will go back to."

  • "A friend of mine told me we had to check out Searsucker while visiting San Diego. Such an awesome dinner! We had the short rib appetizer, mushroom burrata, mahi mahi and side of corn. The cocktails were fantastic and the wine list was great too! Scotty outdid himself with great recommendations and a wonderful surprise of desserts to celebrate mine and my friend's birthdays! Loved the energy and the food/service were top notch! Wish we would have had time to go back for brunch."

  • "As usual, they step up and hit a home run. Awesome service and food. Still the place to be seen in gaslamp. Full to capacity at 11 on a Tuesday. I eat here frequently and would like to see a menu refresh. My only (and ongoing) issue are the "too-cool-for-you", snotty hostess who act like you're lucky to be dining there."

  • "Went for brunch and loved it! The chilaquiles and the French toast were amazing! I even took my 3 kids and the hostess was very friendly. I asked her for a table that I could keep my stroller close by. She pretty much let me pick where to sit, even though the place was very busy. I took my 12 & 5-year-olds as well as my infant. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is because it seemed as though our server forgot about us a few times or he was very busy. He was extremely friendly though. We went with a group so we kept busy chit-chatting. I will definitely be back!"

  • "We arrived early and was steered to the bar for a drink, standard delay and way to generate revenue. No problem when they said they were not ready to seat people. Yet other folks were seated. Bar service was horrible. If you want to generate revenue I'm fine with that then provide the service. Just set an unfortunate beginning. Service at the table was spotty as well. Food was good, large portions, interesting combinations and flavors."

  • "Seersucker is a unique venue on a corner in the heart of The Gaslamp. If you're looking for ordinary do not come here. It is extraordinary. - Unique menu: The meat focused theme of the restaurant offers a menu that must have been thought up by a dreaming butcher. With unusual cuts like Cowboy Caviar. The menu expands beyond beef to fish and duck confit. - Good food. - Craft cocktails: Well done and unique. The favorite is the Peter Rabbit with crushed basil and a pickled carrot. - Ambience: When it comes to creating an environment for hip San Diegans they nailed it. While Seersucker provides a casual atmosphere do not be fooled. They take service seriously to match a five star restaurant. Minus the stuffy white gloves."

  • "Everything was fantastic! Our server was spot on with all of her suggestions! We were in town attending a conference and sent several other groups there over the 4 days we were in town. I highly recommend!"

  • "First, I'll say the food was really, really great. Atmosphere was fun and upsclae casual. Yes, large parties (15 of us) are not the best gig, but our service was frankly rotten. Some people were ordering apps and other mains...the server left in a huff and declared she would just come back later when everyone was ready to order mains. 30min after seating, no has had the opportunity to order food. The food came out in starts and fits. Water glasses were not refilled, second drink orders were not taken for those of us that did not hit the bar beforehand. We were practically abandoned after the food came out. Overall, I was terribly disappointed. I'll try them again with a smaller party."

  • "This place had excellent food with both small ates as well as main courses. Drink we're great with infused liquors. It was a little noisy but very fun."

  • "Our experience at Searsucker was awesome! We went on a Monday night, and it was a pretty packed restaurant. The pork belly appetizer was absolutely delicious, and our server knew the menu from top to bottom. Food was excellent, service was excellent, and we will definitely be back in the future."

  • "My wife enjoy fine dining often and I must say that this was one of the worst experiences we have had in a long time. There were four in our party and we found our table to be too small and dimly lit. The seats were quite uncomfortable. The service was indifferent to the point of being rude. The food was O.K. but just barely, and the prices are really quite high. But by far, the worst aspect was the noise level - unbelievable loud! As the evening wore on the four of us gave up trying to have a normal conversation. I am trying to be balanced in this review by mentioning something positive about our experience, but there is nothing positive that I can say."

  • "Our group had a great food experience. We had a group of seven and it was so loud our table could not have a conversation other than the person next to you. I will definitely refer the restaurant the food and ambiance was outstanding but go in a small group or they need to turn down the music!"
    Dined on 2/24/2014
  • "While the food and service were great, the extremely loud techno music being played was more appropriate for a huge dance party than a dinner. It was impossible to have a conversation without screaming. And with some larger parties there, you can imagine the noise level."

  • "Chef Malarkey, hats off to you! Calamari, duck fat fries, pork belly and brie on skillet were amazing! Service was great and staff was friendly!"

  • "My husband and I decided to have a well deserved date night downtown. He had been to searsucker during the week and enjoyed the food so he recommended we try it together. When we arrived, we were not expecting to hear what we heard. I know we were in the gaslamp and there's a bar area but I was expecting the dining area to be less loud/more personable. I enjoyed the food but having to yell to talk all the time was not what I was looking for."

  • "The vibe at Searsucker was awesome. We loved it! Our bartender was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and friendly. We really loved our appetizers, but our main dish was not as great as I had hoped. I ordered flank steak. That's generally a very, very tender cut of beef, but this was tough. I can't explain it really. But the flavors were great. They gave us a dessert because it was our anniversary and our waitress was wonderful. We had an awesome time!"

  • "Dined with a group of girlfriends for a birthday celebration. We shared plates and just about everything was delicious. Stand outs were the short ribs, "butcher's steak" and the bacon/brownie sundae. Our servers were fabulous and very helpful. Not inexpensive. Perfect for good food, drinking and people watching."

  • "The small plates were to die for - we had short ribs, mussels, mushroom burrata toast, and shrimp & grits. Each dish was so delicious and perfectly prepared. I would eat at Searsuxler again in a heartbeat."

  • "Everything on the menu had a unique spin to it. The corn was delicious with the chorizo. My steak was perfectly cooked and came with lobster butter and mushroom demi - delish. The crab cake appetizer was wonderful full of crab chunks!"

  • "After hearing about Searsucker for many years, I was greatly looking forward to my first experience there. Personal expectations were not in-line for what I experienced. Though we were there when they started seating at 5:30 P.M. and I had asked for a nice table, we were seated next to a beam that greatly obstructed the view. I'm mostly vegetarian - the options are very very limited. The waiter provided adequate information per our specific questions, but didn't really provide a good overview of the menu. Prices are very reasonable. All in all, I won't be back."

  • "Really interesting menu and especially drinks. The restaurant was REALLY noisy on a Sunday night which made it hard to converse with my party of 6 people. The food came out at an unusual pace. Appetizers relatively quickly; then immediately the side dishes for our main course items, which were then cold by the time our dinner arrived. The waiter kind of disappeared until it was too late to complain. The Whiskey Sundae was really remarkable; I also loved the brussel sprouts. I would go back but maybe just to hang out or with a smaller group."
