Diner Reviews
  • "Good and service is always great at Searsucker. One if my favorites in Austin!"

  • "Where do I begin. Lobster Mac n' Cheese "to die for". Shrimp and Grits "great flavor". The Pork Chop was the best I've had in a long time. Oh I almost forgot my new favorite drink, a variation on a Cucumber Martini. Our party of eight had a great time. Service was helpful in deciding what to try. You will not be disappointed."

  • "the service , the food , the atmosphere - its all here over the top service without being intrusive, our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and how the dishes were prepared and was able to offer spot on suggestions. The portions served based on the price points are an excellent value for the dollars spent We will be back"

  • "We stumbled onto Searsucker in our attempt to try a restaurant we had not been to. Searsucker has been recommended to us by two friends and we were not disappointed. The ambiance was lively and the food was phenomenal. Our server was very knowledgeable about wine and helped us pair our dishes. My mixed drink, the skinny jenny, was like summer in a glass. I will definitely be back!"

  • "We ate at Seersucker with friends while on vacation. The food is very good, but the atmosphere is loud and chaotic (disclaimer: The group was in their 50s and 60s). We started by sharing the Tartare and Artichoke Hearts. Both dishes were excellent and well-presented. Our entrées included Black & Bleu fish, Yellowfin tuna, duck, and filet. All were very good, with the Yellowfin being outstanding. Food was fresh, delicious, and well-presented. Our server was very good, even though we ate on a busy Friday. Service was attentive, despite the crowd. Our table was visted by a manager twice. We were told they were trying for a mix of fine dining with casual atmosphere; a success. Wine list is short, but we found a white and red which were good."

  • "We arrived during happy hour and really enjoyed the small plate options and the house infused liquor drinks for $5. Big bar area w/ couches to lounge on. The cocktail Snake in the grass was so refreshing! There take on calamari, their small plate squid was really good. We also tried other food items not on the happy hour menu. Recommend the lobster Mac & cheese, big enough to share. Do not recommend the watermelon salad, needs more watermelon less leafy greens, I don't remember cucumber as it was described? Definitely will be back to try more items, the menu looks great and has me intrigued for more. Overall I give it a 4 1/2."

  • "All of the food and drink we had was excellent. My girl and I went there for our anniversary. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. Our waiter knew everything about all of the menu items off the top of his head and was able to make some great recommendations for food and drink. We stuck with mixed drinks all night, the Leopard's Tail was probably the best one off the menu. The bartender made a custom drink for my girl (at her request) and it was phenomenal. For food we had the tomato soup, lobster mac and cheese, and short rib off of the small plates. All were excellent, the grilled cheese that comes with the tomato soup was amazing. We finished off with the Filet and Duck. Great experience."

  • "It was a bit loud but the food and service were fantastic."

  • "One of my favorite places to visit in Austin! Great food, wine, and drinks. Try the fried brussel sprouts! Everything on the menu is delicious. You will love this place! Every time I travel to Austin we eat here. I think I've been about 5 times this year. I have never been disappointed. Love the ambiance. The wait staff is great too!"

  • "I probably have 3 meals a year as good as the one we had last weekend in Austin at Searsucker. Being with another couple allow us each to share the awesome starters (Poke, artichokes with cheese, pork belly and egg, and shrimp and grits). Each couple shared a different fish dish and both were over the top. Great service and a fun atmosphere. The more you share, the more you will enjoy Searsucker. We will be back on our next trip to Austin!!"

  • "So glad we found this place. The lunch menu was varied and every dish was excellent. Cannot wait to go back for dinner."

  • "The music was way too loud, could not have a pleasant conversation without raising the tone of voice. The buser for the table made us feel rushed by clearing our plates without asking if we were through with our meal. Cleared plates before everyone was done."

  • "We needed to stay close to ACL and found this gem via Open Table reviews. We sat at the bar and drank Snake in the Grass which was the best gin drink we have ever experienced. When we sat to eat we had to try the brussel sprouts in addition to the fried chicken and hangar steak and we enjoyed everything! Don't forget to leave room for the apple crisp!"

  • "The only reason this place gets two stars from me is because it was reasonably proved for lunch and he service was decent. Otherwise, the food was worse than what you could get at Applebee's or Fridays. Flavorless, boring, and uninspired. I truly don't know how it has gotten so many good reviews."

  • "A Great Austin Space! The decor is eclectic and comfortable. We choose to have small plates and they were wonderful. Be sure to try the Roasted Brussell Sprouts with Walnuts and the Shrooms are amazing. This would be a great place to go with a large group or 2-3 couples. They have huge, comfy, leather booths that line the walls and they are perfect for a fun night out with friends. Easy parking around the corner for $5.00 or you can Valet. We will be back for sure!"

  • "Was a bit loud but food and service were great. Got a bunch of small bites and loved having a chance to just sample a wide variety of different tastes. Wine selection wasn't bad either. Definitely will go back."

  • "Requested a table away from the bar, which was happily provided by the affable hostess. This is a big place, so the bar scene is vibrant but dining can be quite pleasant in the back tables. I had scallops and she had salmon. Both were better than excellent. Had a side of bacon grits, and highly recommend them. The cocktails were yummy and the service was good. An overall fun experience, and we will go back."

  • "Unfortunately the good lacked flavor and the quinoa salad had globs of mayonnaise based dressing."

  • "Searsucker Austin caught my eye because I had already dined at the Searsucker in San Diego. I was told upon my arrival that they were indeed related. This made me happy as I had enjoyed my previous dining experience. Austin's Searsucker is even better!"

  • "Wonderful food. I was very pleased with the unique choices. Cool place. Service was ok. We were seated next to a table that contained the order system for the wait staff. Not a good spot. There are many very large dining tables for big parties. Totally great spot for a big party diner outing! Will be going back for sure but this time I be sure to be seated in a more advantageous location."

  • "The hamburger was excellent. Even my picky son thought it was good. The buns were the softest and I wish I knew how to make the mayo. It was big enough that two could easily share so I cut mine in half and had the rest for dinner."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Everything was delicious, the short ribs were fantastic. Tried almost all the small plates!"
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "The food was delicious but overpriced for the quantity. The drinks were very good but again, overpriced. I came for my birthday with some friends and did have a wonderful evening. However, it was very hot inside the restaurant and we were all sweating by the time we left which made for a slightly unpleasant finish to the evening."

  • "We had a wonderful meal and a lot of that had to do with the recommendations of our server. The fish I had was great. Really enjoyed the brussels sprouts, although they were a little overdone. The dessert was like nothing I ever had before. It had candied bacon on it. Very unique but delicious. My only concern with this restaurant is that they advertise a happy hour from 4:30-6:30. We had a 6:00 reservation and thought we would be able to order the happy hour specials at our table, only to find out you had to move to the lounge. We did not move but the table next to us did. My recommendation would be to put that information on your website."

  • "great location and amazing food. But service was very bad and slow. 10 min waiting to refill a coke, no steak knifes with steak and no spoon with soup, and absent waitstaff. Asked manager to address he came by once and never checked with us again which he should have since service was bad all night"

  • "Searsucker is a must dine restaurant! I love food and like to see people's different takes and interpretations when it comes to food. Searsucker definitely is unique and stands along. From the time you walk it provides a warm feeling. The decor, top notch service, and atmosphere already made me want to come back before I even tasted the food which speaks for itself! The food was mind blowing! I would recommend you not leave there without trying their take on eggs & bacon! One of the best dishes I've ever had in my life! The shrimp and grits and short ribs were highlights also. The menu is very diverse and makes you want to comeback so you can try other dishes because it will be difficult for you decide what wonderful dish to try!"

  • "This was my first time to Searsucker and it exceeded all my expectations! The valet parking made the downtown choice easy, the service and food were both excellent. From previous reviews I thought the food might be a little to exotic, but it was all delicious. I went with a friend and we opted to try several small plates instead of ordering a main entry. The small plates were still plenty to share between two people. Our favorite drink was the Jale Berry. We were too full to order dessert but will definitely be back to try them another time!"

  • "This was our first time dining at Searsucker. We were visiting Austin from the New York area and went on a friend's recommendation. We had a great meal consisting of 2 small plates (the watermelon salad and the squid), 2 entrees (the snapper and the tuna) and the lemon curd coconut cake. Every component was terrific, including the wine selection and the service. We'll definitely return on our next visit to Austin."

  • "I came here with some friends for Austin Restaurant Week. We had been to numerous other restaurants throughout the week but this place was the best! The decor was awesome, the service was great, and the food was incredible. I've lived in Austin for almost 20 years and this is now my go-to restaurant for special occasions."

  • "Four of us had dinner at Searsucker on May 21st. The menu was not particularly big but from appetizers to desert had great choices. The "drunken" (fish with cherries and almonds and I guess some alcohol) was great despite how it sounds. It was not the best place for conversation as it is loud when there is a crowd there. We will be back!"

  • "The food was good. The service was awful. When I checked in with the hostess, she told me my friends were at the bar and didn't offer to seat us. Once we were seated our waiter tried to take away the 4th setting. He had not been told we had a fourth coming. When we told him we were not ready to order drinks as we had just received our menus, he disappeared. We had to ask someone to get him to take our order. He continually took plates away before we were finished eating. He asked for our dessert orders when 2 of us were still eating our dinner. We were there for restaurant week and there were only 2 dessert options. They were out of the 1 dessert which 3 of us ordered. We had to ask for other options. The restaurant was not busy. "

  • "My husband and I had an amazing dining experience at Searsucker. The service is excellent. The poke appetizer is excellent! I'm not a big pudding fan, but I could not stop eating my husband's sucka pudding dessert. I can't wait to go back! Best meal I've had in a long time!"

  • "Love the food - the Double Cut Pork Chop was a winner! Another of our party ordered the Branzini and it was cooked perfectly! Service was a bit scattered (a few incorrect dishes were brought to our table by mistake), but overall this was a restaurant we will definitely visit again!!"

  • "The food is consistently good, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, great atmosphere, and nice to be able to do either a variety of small plates or larger dishes (depending on what you are in the mood for). Great for a date or evening with friends. Has become a go-to restaurant."
