A word from Seagrass Restaurant
We offer a fresh, Santa Barbara coastal cuisine fine dining experience. We believe our ‘coastal’ living experience is deserving of celebration. We care deeply about procuring the highest quality ingredients available and are fortunate to have access to superior local bounty. Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market produce, California Seafood as well as product from the whole Pacific Region are just a few of the treasures that make our ‘coastal cuisine’ special. Our cuisine is seafood oriented, but offers a wonderful selection of meat as well, such as wagyu beef, kurobuta pork and foie gras. We are committed to sustainable processes and use organic and local product as much as possible.
Our wine program focuses mainly on Santa Barbara County wine, but also has strong representation of wines from other major wine regions as well.
A sample of our seasonal menu is available via our website, as well as our large party menu.

Diner Reviews
  • "Had dinner here with my girlfriend before a show at the Lobero. The waitstaff was attentive but not hovering. The food was excellent. The wine list was small but very well selected. The entire dining experience was one of the bet I've ever had."

  • "My husband and I dined here to celebrate out 50th anniversary. The staff was friendly but not cloyingly so, the food was perfectly done (even the poached egg met my spouse's criteria) and this night it was quiet and romantic. I would certainly go there again!"
    Dined on 4/10/2014
  • "Large variety so hard to choose. Each of the 3 of us ordered differently and then shared. Everything was over-the-top delicious: duck, scallops, risotto. The waiter was excellent, well informed, and attentive without hovering. Delicious dessert as well! Perfect for the birthday celebration!"

  • "This restaurant came highly recommended by a friend, and it did not disappoint. We had an excellent meal and wine (and we are picky about our restaurants), and excellent service. Would highly recommend!!"

  • "We are never disappointed by Seagrass. The food is always exceptional, beautifully prepared and presented The staff welcoming, knowledgeable, friendly, unobtrusive and accommodating. The new wine bar next door offers a livelier bar scene allowing a perfect transition to Seagrass's tranquility"

  • "Food was quite good. Grown up quiet which is a huge plus. They were just understaffed."

  • "This was a great choice for a long overdue dinner date with my wife. Food was outstanding and service was attentive and polite. Particularly enjoyed the many gluten-free options on the menu and even non-gf items modified to fit my dietary needs. Ambiance was intimate and made for a nice quiet night out for my wife and I."

  • "We took our friends for their first time and they loved it. Nathaniel was our waiter and when you go you need to request one of his tables. We are Santa Barbara natives and we see lots of restaurants come and go. This one will last because of the people, menu, quality of food, wines and especially the wonderful owner! You will not be dissappointed."

  • "Food was OK. Nothing memorable except for the wild boar ribs -- they were very good. Service was slow, had to be pushy to get attention."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Our meal was delicious if a little sparing in the portions for the price. The wait staff was great."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "It is lovely to find a family-run restaurant doing truly outstanding and sophisticated food, and the fact that they are smack in the middle of downtown makes Seagrass a rare gem. The wine list had some exceptional surprises as well, with quite reasonable list prices. An excellent local dining experience."

  • "This restaurant is sophisticated yet comfortable. The menu is somewhat unusual with items such as beef cheeks (tender & delicious) included with more expected fare. The scallops were huge and delicately flavored. The server was excellent even on an evening when a private party had 5 or 6 unexpected add-ons causing a major challenge for the kitchen and staff. As a result the meal was a bit slow coming out but Seagrass more than made up for it comping us all our deserts. The deserts, too, were first class, unusual, and delicious. Next door is a great little wine bar managed by the friendly and knowledgable chef's son. While there you can order off the Seagrass menu while sipping your Pinot."

  • "I was happy to get a reservation on Valentine's day. As a result the menu was pris fixe with a few items to chose from for each course. All the courses were good to great. The cheeses plate was extra and a little bit of a disappointment. The server couldn't tell me what the assortment was and had to call the waiter. He must of had too many tables as we didn't see much of him. So, really good food, but really average service."

  • "Found the food scrumptious, service impeccable with a sense of humor, and the prices reasonable given the attention to detail and flavors. Two appetizers: Carpaccio with capers and greens and a perfectly seared Scallop with potato salad and fennel, both wonderful. Second course: a leafy green salad and wild boar spare ribs (to die for!). Both entrees: duck with a very tasty red cabbage slaw, a poached pear, and pommes puree. Amazing how all these flavors went together perfectly and tasted so good. Shared a fabulous dessert, (wish we had ordered 2!) with an almond cake like cookie, lemon mouse, berries and a salted caramel sauce. One of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara. Consider the 4 or 5 course menu to save about $10 each!"

  • "We were visiting Santa Barbara and what else would you want to have but seafood. The lobster was not delivered the day we went here and so very disappointed. Other selections very limited and ended up with steak which was just ok. Would not go back."
    Dined on 1/15/2014
  • "While the service started out great, it went completely away when we got our meals. No checking on us at all until a new server showed up to take a dessert order. Which too 40 minutes to come to the table. Our waiter showed up to deliver the check and then was very effusive. a bit transparent.....Sad as our prior visit was perfect and we brought new people to try it out."

  • "The Service and the presentation of the dishes is wonderful, but the dishes are on the salty side. We ordered the scallop and black rice and the scallop was extremely salty and the rice was undercooked."

  • "Staff warm, welcoming and unobtrusive. Food beautifully presented and excellent. Ambience quiet with romantic music at just the right volume and variety. Equals our best dining experiences in New York and France."

  • "Very classy experience for the palate and spirit. These fabulous owners/employees are so genuine and generous in wanting to give you the best of the best. Everything was super-tasty and magically cooked just perfect! We visited over 2 weeks ago but we are still talking about that night. Looking forward to another repeat soon ..."

  • "Seagrass is my favorite Santa Barbara Restaurant. The food is always well prepared with unusual and exciting taste combinations. The service is excellent and I love the food!"

  • "I booked a reservation for Seagrass for our Christmas dining experience. As we found out from the waiter, it was their first season being open for Christmas and they clearly had their C team on staff. We were sat in a private dining room which was a nice set-up, but the wait staff seemed to forget about us. We had to go over and ask for help at one point! The service was not at all up to the level you would expect for a fine dining restaurant. Wait staff didn't recognize a bad bottle of wine, they didn't check in on us, they were out of wines and beers we requested. At one point my father was filling up the water glasses. The food overall was pretty good but the experience was ruined by the service. Scallops were a highlight."

  • "Great little spot--chef came out and celebrated New Year toast with us when we were there for their prize fixe NYE menu--poor waiters not very organized, but not a good night to judge for smaller restos. Food was excellent--be prepared to pay much for it."

  • "We've eaten at Seagrass before and the food has consistently been outstanding. Unfortunately for them and us, some of their wait staff was new. I won't go into the glitches that happened as sometimes, s**t just happens and expecting perfection is unrealistic. Our last dining experience was top notch all the way around so this evening was an anomaly for sure. Nonetheless, if I'm being honest, then I would have the rate the service as fair. We did speak with management and they were aware of the situation, was very apologetic, and discounted our meal and comped us a bottle of wine. Can't ask for more than that!"

  • "We have been to Seagrass many times so when we saw that they had a special dinner for New Year's Eve we thought we would give it a try. We were not disappointed. We had the five course dinner. It was amazing! The menu was such that there was something for every taste and whim. The food was flavorful, the portions reasonable and the wine was good! We would recommend Seagrass to anyone who wants great food, good wine and service at a resonable price."

  • "We were excited with the reviews we read and truly encouraged when we walked in to the beautiful place, but all went quickly downhill when the food arrived. The prix fixe menu included a crab special appetizer that was in edible; it tasted like a "raw" crab cake with too much mayo, that was followed by the fattiest short ribs ever! The desserts looked and tasted like supermarket pastries. I would suggest staying clear of any prix fixe nights and follow the reviews of the satisfied a la carte diners. I will not return."

  • "Santa Barbarians must be an imaginative crowd. A visitor reading reviews here could be forgiven for inferring Seagrass is modern California fine dining. Though the food and the service are indeed pleasant, patrons are asked to imagine they don't see the chaotic mess that confronts them upon first entering. For some reason, Seagrass has located their front door between the kitchen and the dining room, putting on display all the dirty dishes on their way back to the kitchen. Seeing the food not eaten does helpfully show those waiting to be seated what NOT to order and reduces expectations of an impending refined dining experience, but the staff chatter about guests' orders and kitchen issues not customarily overheard is just unappetizing."

  • "We started with a gorgeous preparation of oysters on the half-shell with a great vinegar accompaniment and followed by an awesome pork belly salad with root vegetables, mushroom ravioli and the most delicious divers scallops with black rice. Perfect size portions with champagne made our anniversary excellent. We ended with almond cookies with a lemon crema."

  • "We were introduced to this restaurant via Santa Barbara Axxess and this was our second visit to the restaurant and, once again, we enjoyed a great meal! This time I tried the Wagyu steak, which was amazingly tender and flavorful, and my girlfriend had the risotto, which also was very, very good."

  • "Unlike many smaller restaurants in downtown Santa Barbara, Seagrass is elegant, with an uncrowded intimate atmosphere, the opposite of the typical crowded bistro atmosphere found downtown. Seagrass maintains its intimacy without being stuffy or boring. The menu, while not extensive, is top notch for foodies. A great find for those who prefer intimate upscale dining."

  • "Went here on a recommendation from a local friend. Just a block or two from State St, a bit less busy which I like. We had reservations and were seated right away. The wine list was solid. We started with the Seagrass bruschetta, yum. The bread was crispy but soft enough to bite. The jumbo sea scallops with black rice were perfectly cooked. Finished with the chocolate mousse.....smooth and creamy. It was a very good experience. I would recommend for a romantic date."

  • "We've had lovely dinner at family owned Seagrass. Our server was very knowledgeable and well able to accomadate our whole family. The chef created a superb vegetarian meal for our kids as well as a perfectly prepared lamb and seabass fur my wife and myself. Good open wine-list."
