I've heard good things about this restaurant so was looking forward to trying it. Everyone loves a good byob restaurant in Chicago. The staff ended up being pretty in professional and were not attentive to our table. I usually expect that in wicker park or buck town areas so that wasn't necessrily a deal breaker. The worst part was the quality of the food. They didn't even use full pieces of shrimp in their shrimp courses. They used a type of "shrimp meat" that you may find in very cheap grocery stores. The maki was way oversized and had about double the rice that maki is supposed to have, making it difficult to eat and flavorless. Overall I was very disappointed with the food and would not go back to this restaurant.

Honestly, I'm sure I frequent this place every other month. The staff continues change up their menu while still keeping some of those delicious classics. The overall experience never disappoints and is sure to please visiting out-of-towners.

The overall appearance is very cool, modern, good lighting, clean, and the noise level is perfect. We started out order maki rolls, and they were okay, nothing that heralded a shout out. The we ordered a few signature rolls and sashimi, both of those deserve a shout out! It was almost like eating in 2 different restaurants. The main dishes looked good too, skip the maki!

Horrible place. There are so many great sushi restaurants in Chicago that this is a horrible choice. Host was a jerk. We sat there for 30 minutes without any service and when we finally got a couple starter salads- they were disgusting. old lettuce. Stay far away- so many better sushi places in Wicker Park!

Attentive and friendly service. Many regular and signature roll options. It is so loud inside, however. This is not a good choice for an intimate night out as you'll be huddled over the table just to hear each other or shouting to hear each other.

The reviews are accurate…The rolls were inventive and great and the sushi was high quality. Perhaps not the absolute best ever, but certainly very, very good. Sushi portions were on the larger side, but very well balanced (perfect ratio of fish to rice and not too large as to be difficult to manage). All in all - great stop for quality sushi. Place is on the darker side, but fine..

Seadog is our new favorite sushi place. They have plenty of specialty rolls that are inventive and fun, but their basic rolls are what set them apart from the other BYO sushi places in town. Their fish is fresh, and they've nailed that perfect ratio of rice to fish. Make sure you get their spicy tuna roll - the tuna is coursely chopped (not minced beyond recognition like most places) and it's not slathered in spicy mayo. Love this place!

The rolls at Seadog are fantastic. The TripleS roll was so good we got a second one after we finished the first. The spicy tuna was just right and the Sea Monster was delicious, though a little intimidating to get the whole thing in your mouth. Since they are BYOB it's very affordable so I'll be back. Reservations were disappointing. Open Table listed them with availability for a table of 3 either before 5:30 or after 9:30. We opted for 5:30 and showed up to a completely empty restaurant. It gradually filled up while we were there, but at 8:30 when we left there were still several tables for 3 available. Clearly we should have been able to get a reservation for at a more reasonable (later) time, they just wasn't available via OpenTable.

We tried a good mix of both basic and specialty rolls - while the special rolls were inventive and tasty, the simple rolls were the best. Their hamachi cucumber roll was one of the best I've had in this city - so fresh, and the rice to fish ratio was perfect. High praise to their spicy tuna roll as well. The tuna was sliced in a way which still maintained the integrity of the fish - so many places dice it up beyond recognition and smother it in mayo...not the case, here! AND this place is BYO...Seadog is definitely one of the best sushi spots in town!

Food was good and reasonable but we have had better and much more interesting options. Nothing to really fault but also nothing spectacular. We went to Yuzu Sushi and Robata by contrast on New Years Eve (same price as regular) and were blown away by presentation, quality and experience even though Seadog has more comfortable chairs. At Yuzu we couldn't stop ordering, everything was so tempting, whereas Seadog was more challenging as to what you really wanted. I would go again but not my #1.

We live in the city and like sushi a lot. We came across this spot and wanted to try it (based on reviews). I am very glad we did. The food is really spectacular. Great rolls and sashimi, fish was very fresh and the uni was wonderful. Place is a hit cramped but very worth the slight inconvenience this could cause. Great Gond, loved it.

Went here on a weeknight and found it relatively quiet and full of attentive service. The server opened took our bottle of wine before we even sat down and had it opened and in a chill bucket very quickly. We ordered a sashimi platter which was great -- fantastic selection of very fresh fish -- and a couple of rolls. One roll fell on its side as it was delivered to us and we got a lot of profuse apologies and a new plate. Great flavors; relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices.

Very small place so its hard to get in without a reservation, must make it weeks in advance for Friday/Saturday night otherwise weekdays you'll can find a table. We had a reservation, but somehow things got mixed up so they seated us at the bar otherwise we'd have to wait longer to be seated even though we had a reservation. Really fresh sushi and its BYOB.
