While no special menu was listed on their website, or mentioned when they called me to confirm our reservation, we got there and they had Prix Fixe vs. regular menu. That would have been fine, but the Prix Fixe was more than the price would have been adding the 2 items (one appetizer plus an entree) would have been from the regular menu. No dessert, mimosa, no special Mother's Day anything. It appears that they charged a premium just for showing up on a holiday which was annoying and somewhat odd since they weren't even full.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFine seafood in Merrifield!We have been to Sea Pearl many times and the food and service are always very good. This time we were there for Mother's Day and although it was quite crowded, the noise level stayed in the moderate range (thankfully). The service was excellent, although some of the staff persists in clearing dishes while one is still eating. I woudln't mind so much if they didn't reach in front of me to do it. We had the duck appetizer, as well as the zucchini/onion rings, and both were good. While their poultry and beef dishes are quite good, I try to stick with their seafood selections, including the sushi. The chef has a deft hand with seafood, and the presentations are as beautiful as the taste. It was my third time visiting Sea Pearl (I've had their brunch, lunch, and dinner now). They were very accommodating and the service was perfect. Our waiter was very patient and always made sure our water glasses were filled and that we were all happy. Celebrated a birthday on a girls night out. Treated like royalty by Brian. The Malbec we ordered was not in the house but Brian found it! Dinner was so good with the birthday girl tackling the Bronzino. A little work since it comes to table whole but she worked him over and loved the fish. A scoop of mango sorbet from the house ended a great night. We ran in the pouring rain like we were still kids and laughed all the way home. Meal started with a salad, and I asked for a different dressing and they recommended a lemon vinaigrette. It was too sweet for my taste, and the chef made a dressing for me without any sugars! After dinner, I opted for the Coconut Cake, and I am so mad that all the times I had dined there before that I never ordered it! It was the most insanely divine coconut cake that I have had in a long time. It came as its own little layer cake, about 3 inches in diameter with a yummy buttercream frosting all around an in between the layers, sprinkled with a dessicated coconut, and served with a lemon creme fraiche. The fisherman's stew was prepared to perfection, generous portion of seafood and outstanding broth recipe. The chillean sea bass was well seasoned and the chef's special sauce gave it a nice touch. Our server Khoi was well knowledgeable and friendly, he suggested the blue point oysters which are indeed very fresh. We brought our two little kids, who were a handful, but they were prepared with kids menus and a very patient waiter. Menu was interesting--several intriguing sushi rolls and lots of seafood, but even if you don't like seafood they had a little bit of everything. My husband and a friend ordered the fisherman's stew--it was huge, with a lobster on top. Unfortunately, the lobster was overcooked but everything else was excellent.

I think the only better I've had was at Blue Ginger. I wouldn't order a martini (wife and I are gin fans, and the martinis were weak and without flavor except for olive brine), but everything else we tried was outstanding! BBQ fish ribs, stellar sushi rolls, and fabulous scallop ceviche made it so that we never left the appetizer and sushi menu. We had an early reservation for a Saturday, so they were transitioning from lunch to dinner. So when we arrived there was only one other couple there. I have gone to 4 sisters for years. Sea Pearl is one of my new favorite places. We got the Tuna Tartar appetizer which was great. I had the Seabass and my husband had the Cod. The seabass was perfectly cooked and was wonderful. We had our kids at the restaurant and the staff was great with them. We'll undoutedbly be back. The service is excellent. The seafood is always exceptionally fresh and well-prepared. However, the chefs need to be smarter about plating. They tend to put cold or room-temperature garnishes on top of hot food. For example, my wife had terrific scallops, which were arranged around a mound of a puree (parsnip, or parsnip and potato) -- but then a pile of cool leafy greens were on top of the puree, which meant that the top half-inch or so was room temperature by the time it got to the table. The Spring Salad was fresh and brought out a nice contrast between the green apple and the crumbs of blue cheese; the Crab Cake had just the right moisture and a pleasant, subtle saltiness, and the Fisherman's Stew brought out a firework of competing tastes that required an oaky Chardonnay for balance.
