The food and service here were
fine. But the dining room has not been updated in ages and feels dated. We were there in the off season but it still was VERY empty. We asked the waiter to turn down the light over our booth so that it felt a little more like a evening dining room, not a Denny's. It does have a view of the ocean which obviously you cannot see a night - might be a better idea for lunch/breakfast."

we were not even seated in the Sea
Grille as there was a private party going on - which they failed to mention when we called to confirm - order the most expensive glass of white wine on the menu and was given a house instead until I said something - they oysters were not good at all an lobster roll just ok - shrimp completely under cooked"

Had a large event the night I
dined so We were seated in the cafe rather then the main rom. Otherwise nice experience."

Guerney's is one of my favorite
get away places. It has very nice facilities. After dinner we sat outside by the fire pit and chatted with other patrons. The beach air was intoxicating. Even thou there were 3 weddings that day it never felt crowded, noisy or annoying."
Dined on 11/2/2013
I only had appetizers, but the
place needs an updated look. Stuck in the 70's. Staff can be a little more friendly. Maybe it was late. I would try it again next time when I am out there."

Beautiful location, we ordered the
specials(pre fix dinners) and the only disappointment was the shrimp francese could of had two more shrimp (only 3 in dinner plate). My meal and my wife had the salmon, we had the chowder and salad, and gelato's and all were delicious! Two nights ago we had burgers at the bar and they were excellent! Bar tender seemed at first annoyed that we were ordering food but others were eating at the bar also!"

Sad to see Gurney's Inn fall so
far in quality of food and service. All that is left is the fabulous view. The food really was of very poor quality - all eight of us agree. Service was slow, inattentive, and mistake ridden. Wine ordered at beginning of meal arrived at end of meal! Two of us were served the wrong main course! One of us returned the sliced steak as inedible. Has there been a new chef replacing what was there before?"

I made the reservation saying that
we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary through open table. The restaurant surprised us after dinner with a piece of cake on a plate with " Happy 25th Anniversary" written in edge of plate with chocolate syrup and two folks. Their gesture just made our celebration dinner complete."
Dined on 9/14/2013
Wonderful service & dinner! Band
was a nice added touch!"
Dined on 9/10/2013
Neither my wife or I were
impressed with food. The seared tuna seemed like it spent too much time under the heat lamp. The view of the ocean from inside the dining room was nice. Service was attentive but the restaurant was empty (off-season.)."
Dined on 9/9/2013
The menu is a bit limited but
thats not a negative. Has something for everybody. Reasonably priced and was presented well. The anniversary celebration is something my wife and I will remember for a long time."
Dined on 9/5/2013
The views are amazing and worth it
just for that. We were surprised that the food exceeded our expectations and was better than the reviews we read as was the service."
Dined on 8/24/2013
the view of the water is great(
the only reason anyone would dine here is to see the water while dining) except they wouldnt seat anyone outside most likely due to lack of staff. it took a while to have our order taken, food took a while to come and food was just ok. I would not waste my money on this place if I were you!"
Dined on 9/4/2013
NO, I can't believe how terrible
the food was here. It's Gurney's for God's sake and very pricy!!! Mushy Shrimp cocktail (4 shrimp ) Some salad with what seemed like Durkee onions on top Stuffed swordfish which was...ok... but served with stringbeans that seemed as if they had been sitting on the stove for a long time and came with a teriyaki sauce...terrible. Mushy. Filet mignon which at $38 dollars was just bland bland bland The view is spectacular but the food is the same as the food you would expect from a lot of weddings, overcooked, truly uninspired and disconnected from the culinary world of 2013. The atmosphere itself was very like a wedding at the "club" with NY state of mind being sung in the background."

There's a certain charm about this
long-time seaside resort. In 25 years of coming to Montauk, we never had dinner there, so I wanted to try Gurney' restaurant. I was not disappointed. The bartender made great drinks."
Dined on 8/30/2013
Six of us went there for dinner on
a Wednesday for the much advertised lobster bake. We were seated in the main dining room which is pretty beat up. Our burned out waiter shows up, takes our drink order, mutters the specials, doesn't give us prices, doesn't say anything about a kids' menu, and disappears for a bit. Upon return, we ask about the kids menu ( yes, there is one.) and about the lobster bake. It would have been helpful if the hostess has asked us whether we wanted the lobster bake before seating us. The food was serviceable. The menu, like the decor was vintage 60s,uninspired and expensive. Check this off your list."
Dined on 8/29/2013
The views are beautiful..really
the star of the place. Food is average"
Dined on 8/17/2013
They would only give us 2 menus
for four people. That was the start of a terrible dining experience. Never again. The food tasted like the food your decent cook friend cooks when you go over for dinner. That way it only costs you a hostess gift, not $35 per entree."
Dined on 8/24/2013
Location is great. New menu needs
work. Service is slow and our server knew nothing about the menu. Had to send back undercooked steak and over cooked fish. Not sure if there is new management t, but they need to focus on quality Used to be much better"
Dined on 8/23/2013
The main dining hall is much too
large, crowded and noisy. Screaming children, clueless parents, close proximity to a bar with flat panel televisions and a bus staff that continuously drops plates and silverware makes for a decidedly unpleasant experience. If you are looking for a quiet, dimly lit, romantic spot for two do NOT go here."
Dined on 8/21/2013
Settng is lovely, waitstaff quite
accommodating, and while the food is good, the menu seems to have become stuck in the 1950's."
Dined on 8/14/2013
It's a shame that a restaurant
with such a stunning view, still can not serve a decent meal. We have been going to Gurney's for the past en years and every year we give the Sea Grill "another chance". From rubbery baked clams, over salted Chicken Milanese to a Seafood Fra Diavlo made with frozen calamari and canned scungili, our dinner was a disaster. Hopefully, under their new management, this restaurant will become what it should have been for years, a place to come for the freshest of seafood that is well prepared in the magnificent setting that Gurney's offers."
Dined on 8/14/2013
We have been eating at Gurney's
for the past 25 years and it never disappoints. This time we had a lovely table by the window so we could see the view of the ocean. The restaurant was busy, filled with couples, families and large parties. Our server was attentive and friendly. We had baked clams and crab cakes for appetizers, both were delicious. For dinner I had the mahi mahi special which was outstanding. For dessert I had the key lime pie which was tasty and refreshing. I almost forgot the Pink Flirtini cocktail. YUM!"

Considering the hype that Gurney's
Inn generates, and their illustrious history, I found it somewhat disappointing that their physical location was showing signs of age, and in serious need of an upgrade or renovation. The view of the ocean is spectacular, but the dining room itself is, for lack of a better word, old. Rug needs replacement and walls could seriously use a paint job. I don't think the entryway, lobby, or the restaurant itself have been renovated in the past quarter century My meal was good. You can't go wrong ordering lobster in Montauk. Mine was served Fra Diavolo style on top of very overcooked linguine and with a good offering of shellfish and shrimp. Menu items are a bit pricey, even for Montauk."

We enjoyed a lovely dinner in
early August. The setting is breathtaking and the food was excellent. The tuna tartare appetizer was delicious and the bouillabaisse was very good. One member of the party ordered a chicken dish which was not very good and I would classify as 'catering hall food'. We were a party of 5 and other than the chicken and an unspectacular penne a la vodka, everything was excellent. I would stay away from items you tend to see at catered events. The sushi was also very well done. Desserts were all good - tasty carrot cake and interesting gelatos. The setting is unbeatable - ocean views as far as the eye can see!"
Dined on 8/3/2013
Food was excellent, view of ocean
awesome. 4 adults appetizers, bottle of wine, dessert all for $200 w/ 20% tip."
Dined on 7/21/2013
Gurney's is massive and situated
in a prime beachfront location. The food wasn't horrible but more like catering quality which is understandable since they are used to taking on many guests at a time. I wouldn't go back for a meal but will go back for drinks or a spa day."

My wife and I went to Gurney's for
our anniversary diner, and at every level -- from service to atmosphere to outstanding quality of food -- it could not have been better. Gurney's is a gem. Cannot recommend it highly enough!"
Dined on 7/9/2013
My husband and I chose Gurney's
Grill to celebrate our anniversary in Montauk. It was a beautiful experience for us both. The scallops dinner was the best I've had in a long time! The staff was attentive and very professional. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves a great seafood dinner and a fabulous ocean view."
Dined on 6/28/2013
We ordered the filets and they
came out at the incorrect temp. When I switched plates with my friend since our temps were closer to what the other ordered, my steak looked half the size of his. When we pointed this out to the waiter, he said "Yeah" and stood there w/ nothing to offer. Everyone around us who had sat after us received their food while we waited forever. This was ironic since we had ordered almost immediately after sitting and all knew what we wanted. We couldn't get the waiter's attention so kept having to ask the runner for things. We had to ask the runner for the check since our waiter basically stopped coming to our table. Finally, we asked him to take the check and he signaled he'd be back and then didn't bother to do so."

We had delicious oysters on half
shell, yellowtail sashimi, and sashimi salad! Good wine list. Beautiful place overlooking the Atlantic Ocean! Would definitely good. Great service."
Dined on 5/30/2013
We try to get to The Sea Grille at
least twice a year. Usually for our Birthdays. Every time we have a meal there it is a wonderful experience. The food is delicious, the staff are attentive and the view is gorgeous. They always go out of their way to make sure we are having an amazing time. Will always return!"
Dined on 11/3/2012
Food was good but not great.
Portions were of moderate size. We started with oysters that were very grimmy. I had the ravioli which were very tasty. My spouse had the salmon which was "ok". Service was friendly but not on top of our table and the restaurant wasn't very busy. Beautiful views of the ocean but the restaurant itself reminded me of a older golf club-like diner."
Dined on 4/20/2013
The view was outstanding and the
food was delicious. We looked out over the ocean through a panoramic window while we dined on inspired dishes. The wine list was more than adequate and the service was excellent."
Dined on 4/6/2013
Gurney's is by far my favorite
restaurant to go to in the area. It never disappoints. Every time we go, the food has consistently been top-notch. The service is also very good, and you can't get enough of the view of the ocean. There's nothing in town even remotely close to this place."
