Diner Reviews
  • "This is the place for oyster happy hour or seafood. There is a small outdoor area for seating. Arrive early as, these fill up during the summer months. Excellent wine parings and the staff are knowledgeable."

  • "It is very enoying that the reservation for the terrace via open table is not respected by the magement. This happened now twice that the waiter tries to place you in the patio instead on the beautifull canal side!"

  • "Seafood is outstanding and the ambience is great. excellent happy hour and meeting with friends after work."

  • "The Sea catch was ideal for our date night. The ambiance, service, and food were excellent. We highly recommend this place for anyone who is seeking a special dining experience."

  • "The canal view in Gtwn is the attraction but unfortunately the food was less than expected. The $20 lobster roll @ Lunch had liquid dripping from it when u bit in- was not properly drained. The NE roll should have been grilled but these was just butter drenched on a roll. It should have had bite side pieces. The lunch menu is very limited but it still took 50 minutes to get out. The filet sandwich was gristly & not suitable as a sandwich- needed knife to cut into it, ordered as medium but came rare & the waiter agreed & apologized. The roll for meant for an 8oz burger- made the 4oz steak loo lost w/ twice as much bread than meat covering the roll. Choc chambord cake was sugary instead of sweet chocolatey & mousse mostly whip cream."

  • "Sea Catch was a terrific place to have a mid week dinner with friends. The view over the canal was great. Great ambience."

  • "While the food is no doubt pricey, it is absolutely worth every dime. The crab cakes were absolutely amazing. Our server, Denis, was the perfect combination of attentive, polite, personable & very educated on the menu. The service made the food that much better!"

  • "Start off with validated parking just feet away and move to great food at fair prices. Party of six, we all were pleased with the service. Toddlers handled well. Drinks are potent. Great night out!"

  • "Excellent choice to have dinner with my daughter and husband. Food was exceptional and very fresh."

  • "Pretty disappointed in this place. Service was very slow and the entrees were nothing to write home about. The oysters were good and we sat and ate them at the raw bar, where the oyster man was friendly. Howver, the stemware was mot cleN when my glass of wine came, we had to ask for water twice, eyc. It was that sort of place. Not at terrible, but not worth returning to."

  • "My husband- son and I had a very good meal. Sitting outside on the deck overlooking the canal made me forget that I was in the middle of Georgetown."

  • "Although the restaurant has a very nice decor and free valet parking is great, it was generally a miss. Mussels weren't good, waitress was unfriendly, and food wasn't served all at once. Also, didn't bother to mention parking validation before we left so we had to come back. Generally, enjoyed my company but wouldn't eat here again."

  • "Recommended by a well known D.C. architect as the "best food in town." And I can vouch that it's consistent."

  • "I usually just spend a quiet weekend in D.C. With one of my children. Sea catch is always part of the agenda. This past weekend was the best yet. Solid performer with wonderful welcoming service."

  • "We returned to the Sea Catch for Father's Day dinner, our 8-month old in tow. We were seated in the back, which worked great for us since we had our stroller along and didn't have to worry about a lot of foot traffic, and was considerate of other diners too. We ordered the seafood tower, which was delightfully, a three-tiered tower with oysters, clams, mussels, the jumbo-est jumbo shrimp cooked perfectly (not rubbery!), jumbo lump crab salad and lobster salad, plus all of the requisite sauces and lemon wedges. We also had the crab cake appetizer and the oysters ceviche, fresh, ivy oysters topped with tomato, onion and cilantro. We had a very enjoyable time and will return!"

  • "In the decades I've been going to this place, I can't say I had a memorable meal, but at least the canalside ambience was great and the oysters were always fabulous. Not so the other night, when I went with an out-of-town friend who had remembered it fondly. Even the lobster tasted stale."

  • "Which means it was not bad, but is expensive and could be a lot better. Restaurant is really nice and view of canal adds to its rustic charm. Food was ok. Portions me seemed small, and while nothing was bad, nine if the food popped off the plate, either. Service was just mediocre, and that and an effect I am sure on my overall feelings of the place. Our server was pleasant, but service was at a snails pace, which seemed odd since the restaurant was not crowded. I ordered plain grilled yellowfin, but got the menu version with the sauce I did not want. Server says she did not hear my order, but she suggested that preparation. Manager made it up with complimentary after dinner cordials. A very nice gesture."

  • "It was a couple of years since we'd been to Sea Catch and we wanted a good quality sea food meal and while the food was still of a good standard the experience has definitely gone down hill. As a couple we were placed in the corner of the noise main dining room where there were large parties which made conversation very difficult. And then the waiter was dismissive of our questions about the wine list to the point of rudeness "Well just let me know when you've decided and I'll come back." Due to the noise and the waiter we asked to move and were placed in the bar area, which ironically was much quieter and the waitress was very pleasant, but the occasion had been spoiled for us. Sadly I think it is very unlikely we will be back."

  • "$1 oysters can't be beat and neither can the 1/2 priced beers on tap and wines by the glass. The manager is incredibly welcoming but the bar staff could use some improvement in their service. Their the typical Georgetown bartenders that ignore you most of the evening and you practically have to yell at them to get a drink."

  • "Ordered the dinner Pri-fixe, it was awful! The Lobster Bisque was bland. No amount of Ole Bay could revive it. The salad was awful. The dressing was not robust enough for the spinach and the pears overwhelmed the dressing. Moving along, the next course was oysters with applewood bacon. They were over cooked and rubbery. And finally, my steak was burned and just nasty. "

  • "The restaurant was cozy and the food was very good. The only disappointment was the wine list. The wines by the glass were limited and poor. When you only offer two Chardonnays by the glass, to be out of the better of the two is unforgivable!"

  • "Sea Catch is one of my favorite restaurants in Georgetown, but this time there was a rare slip. Reception should have told us that construction across the canal would make conversation difficult on the deck. A half hour after we ordered we asked about our food. We were told the kitchen made an error. We overheard the same thing at an adjacent table. I'll go back, hoping this was a fluke. "

  • "The fish was fresh and quite good. The restaurant was very nice and the outdoors (both courtyard and on canal) were great. The staff was lovely but SO slow. I am not sure if they forgot about us outside sometimes but it was painful. Half our table got their entrees a full 10 minutes before the other half. And we went at 6pm so not during a really busy time."

  • "They were very helpful in booking a large party but then lost the reservation. They made up for it on the spot, which is a sign of a well run restaurant. The food was above average to good. The wait staff was excellent. They did a supurb job with a large party. "

  • "Sea Catch has superb service with top notch staff, excellent food, and outdoor seating overlooking the C&O canal. Prices are in line with the ambiance and quality of food, while the service actually exceeds expectations. My wife and I have been going to Sea Catch for our special occasions for years, it's where I proposed to her and we just celebrated our 10th anniversary there last week, and we have never been disappointed."

  • "The food was fantastic when we finally got it. The service was slow and not very responsive, the food was worth the wait. I would do it again just to see if they were slightly off of their game. "

  • "My fiancé and I ate here for a special dinner while visiting D.C. The atmosphere was great and the food was fantastic. The only downside of our visit was that we could not understand our waiter very well. Other than that this was a great place! "

  • "I bring a group of clients to the Sea Catch at least one time per year. The overall experience is exceptional with good food, good atmosphere and a congenial environment in which to talk. I will come back again next year during our annual conference in DC. "

  • "I hadn't been to Sea Catch in a long time when I met a friend there for lunch. I was struck at how unchanged it was -- as lovely and gracious a setting as ever; terrific seafood (I had tuna, perfectly cooked to my medium rare specifications, on a house salad); and parking validation to boot. I'll not let so many months go by before going again."

  • "Not for a romantic dinner unless you are lucky to be one of the couples to sit next to the only fireplace. No more tableclothes and instead just plastic placemats. For a centerpiece, you get the regular salt/pepper and Cholula like Ihop. Less individual round tables and more booths instead. So plain it gives you the feel of a joint restaurant instead. Nothing vibrant or cozy/elegant."
