My entree was outstanding: sea bass with mustard crust, farro, red wine sauce, with a scattering of oranges, fennel, and watercress. The flavors popped and it was so refreshing and delicious.

The skillet benedict for brunch was very good, and the dessert with the goat cheese and cherries was exquisite. I was there on a Sunday at 11am and it was a very family-oriented atmosphere with many small children.

I went Saturday night with my son. We ordered a cauliflower dip for appetizer. It was too much for the two of us. Then we ordered an entree -- I had pork belly and my son ordered the burger. The pork belly was again too much. The portion was huge. I could not finish it. The dish was also too 'busy" -- for lack of better word. Overly rich, too many tastes -- sour, sweet, soy, etc. My son's burger was good. I am glad we decided to share dessert because that was too much as well. We had an olive cake which was pretty good.

Service was great but we sat outside after being shown heater near our table. It didn't work and 3 of 5 didn't enjoy dinner because we were too cold. Apparently the hostess didn't know what the server did-no working heater. However, we will definitely try again and hope the heater, if necessary, will work! Food was delicious.

we went for brunch before the races and let me tell you the food was deeeelicious! there was not a crumb to be found on my skillet! i had the cornbread skillet with bacon and it was FANTASTIC! i also got Prosecco for my drink which was also tasty but what impressed me the most was that great beers were only $5!! that is basically unheard of nowadays and you wouldn't expect that in Del mar!! it was delicious and very well priced overall. we will def be back!! helpful hint - request the back patio... live music playing and nice ambiance.

I knew coming into dining here I would be spending more money than usual. The ambiance of the place is really "hip" and up-to-date, yet I wish there was more for what I paid for. I ordered the mushroom benny and my boyfriend ordered the pork belly benny for brunch. He said it was just OK. We've been to many hole in the wall brunch areas and I would say that the food here is mediocre. Nothing really stood out as WOW! I will not be returning here, as I try pricey restaurants once, just to say that I've had the food there.

We have eaten here three times now and all three times, the food was very good. For starters, the charred octopus and solace watermelon salad are standouts. We have also really enjoyed the jidori chicken, mary's duck breast, and the niman ranch pork belly. The service is attentive. The location is convenient. The outside seating is very pleasant, especially behind the restaurant. Some of the inside chairs can be a bit uncomfortable. At lunch time, the grilled cheese is ridiculously tasty, and the soups are fresh and homemade. For a side, try the corn bread. Yum. Kid friendly. Del Mar needs more restaurants like this one!

Food was amazing and priced very fair for the quality. We shared a beautiful cheese and meat board for an appetizer. Drinks were fairly good and the wine list had many great options. Ambiance is great. My only complaint with this restaurant was the service. We came prepared to dine, in that, we planned to enjoy an appetizer, dinner, dessert, and drinks over great conversation. After declining to order dinner before finishing our cheese plate our server disappeared and we had to get a fellow server to grab her attention. She then came to tell us her shift was over and someone else would be taking over. However, she only showed up twice to fill up our water. Perhaps it was an off night for the staff but it really threw my experience here off.

My friend and I enjoyed our evening here, both of us trying it out for the first time. Very good: ambience (lovely outside seating area with tables and lounging area) Also very good was the cheese plate - the perfect amount for sharing, good presentation and yummy. Service was sketchy - the hostess was great in getting us seated outside. Once we were seated it took at least 5 minutes for our server to even come over to our table, and we didn't get any water until about 10 minutes in. Overall the service was good - the manager came over to inquire about why we had sent back a dish and was nice. The dish was oysters - expected Rockefeller style as discussed with our server - but came with terrible spinach mornay sauce - really bad.

Went to Sea and Smoke after a day at the Del Mar Race Track. We were seated immediately at the time of our reservation, had the choice of indoor or patio, and all four of us enjoyed a very delicious dinner. The beet salad and watermelon salads were very good, as was the chicken Jidoori, and the grilled wild salmon was the best I've had this year! I have to give special praise to our outstanding server - she was extremely helpful with every question and need - with a positive attitude throughout!!! All in all it was a delightful and satisfying experience and we will go back.

Went on a Monday night for date night with my wife. We're both gluten free, we generally avoid dairy, and we have two small dogs so a patio is a must. The patio was at probably 20% capacity when we went, so we were able to sit on the couch - very comfy. They have some trees with rope lights, which add a warm glow, and we had no problems hearing each other. We have some friends coming to town soon and we'll be bringing them here. Would recommend.

Patio was lovely for brunch (under an umbrella otherwise wicked hot in the sun), good service. food was less interesting than we expected and tended to be overly rich. For example EBLT already a rich sandwich by content and aoli spread, was served on a brioche- would have been much more palatable on a ciabatta or pretzel roll- any kind of bread that was pain and could soak up the egg yolk. This was pretty much true for all the food- a lighter touch would improve the food greatly. unleaded drinks - which are just juice are served in stingy cocktail glasses- we expected juice glasses.

Residents of la costa since 76.We look out for new places to dine in & this one was on top of the list. We were looking forward to a satisfying & an enjoyable experience. We were seated graciously. The waitress took her own time to get us our wine.A bit too too long.Started off with the black mussels. Really good.BUT extremely HIGH in salt.We like to soak up the bread with the sauce & now it just got all left behind.Fig flatbread sounded great & thought it would be wonderful with more wine. The crust was THICK AND DRY..just ate the tiny bits of figs. Not edible.Bone marrow was simply just fatty to the palette.I wish I could say something positive. Hoping that I could add this one to my list of frequent places..I just have to cross it off now.

Went to Del mar for the races and found Sea and Smoke as it was close to the track. Food was great, service was wonderful. Sat outside on the patio. I had the lamb, excellent melt in your mouth. Other guest had the duck which was great as well. We loved it so much, came back a 2nd night and had the chicken and a burger. Found great reasonably priced wines. Ryan was a great server, attentive and the hostesses were so gracious. I would go back again when in the area.

I love a restaurant that takes reservations, even for a party of two! But beyond that convenience, the staff was very pleasant and accommodating and the servers did not hover over us while we ate or "bring the check early for our convenience" as a result we stayed for several rounds of mimosas. The brunch food options were all very different and delicious-looking. I chose the Croque Ma'dam and it is not disappoint. I had a bite of my friends' Salmon Benedict and that was yummy too! Been a Matt Gordon fan following his restaurants but this one was not a good experience. Was there for lunch once and it was good. However, Friday night at Sea & Smoke was not that great. The halibut which two from our table ordered was horrible and dry and hard. Service was just okay. Something went awry with this restaurant. Maybe it was just an off night - but should customers pay for an "off" night for the chefs in the kitchen?I don't think so/ If you are planning on a night out with friends then you shouldnt have such a bad experience.

I had avoided this restaurant for a while after it opened because of less than good word-of-mouth. I have been there three times recently, and each time it has been very good. This last time however, the service was slow, and when the last person in our party of three checked in with the hostess, she said there was no such reservation in my name. (Although there was when I, and my second quest checked in, separately.) the food is interesting, with a brunchy-themed menu. I have only been there for lunch, not sure if the menu changes for dinner, but I imagine it does. The patio is dog-friendly, the food is imaginative and delicious, and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend the EBLT sandwich, and make sure you try the fries!

How can you ruin a caesar salad? Well they did. The duck breast was tasteless and the wine selection was awful and very expensive. Outdoor dining was lovely. Too bad the food did not match. Yuch!
