ScutraCool spot!We discovered this neighborhood gem recently. The food was great! The mochaccino was awesome. All the the elements of fine dining were there.
Perhaps the only thing that we didn't like was the plate. It's not practical to eat in this plate! That's why we minus 1 star. Finally did based on the menu which seemed quite creative and the price which for a high end menu was quite reasonable. Also they offered the option of big or small plates allowing for an opportunity to try several dishes without having either a ton of food or spending a lot of money. The chef came out and asked me how I liked the fried sqush blossoms....something I had always wanted to try and found at this restaurant. Delicious ! Good parking available, which is a huge plus.There was some initial confusion about our reservation, but it was sorted out without much fuss. The waiter, Brian, was excellent. We especially appreciate the option for smaller portion entrees that allows us to order a couple of appetizers and really sample more of what they have to offer. We always come for the mussels, but also had the calamari with pesto that was prepared unlike any fried calamari I had ever had before, and also the best I ever had. Their homemade bread and pesto dip were extraordinary. Menu had a good range of choices.
We ordered the steamed mussels appetizer to start. Presentation was nice, but It arrived with an over pungent fishy smell. It was so strong as well as having a fishy taste. One of our diners refused to eat more than two after the second one was questionable.
I chose the shrimp over golden beets for my entree. It too arrived with a fishy odor and had a strange water taste to it, but totally eatable. My friend ordered a beef dish which was terrific. Granted there was a large party seated near us and although we ate on the early side (6 pm reserv) and the party broke up before we left, it was sometimes too noisy for us and conversation was shouted instead of using normal voices. Our group of 4 enjoyed squash bisque, goat cheese filo dough and a large Cesar salad for starters. House specialty Osso Buco did not disappoint and others loved the swordfish and chicken parm. We wanted a 7 PM reservation but the closest available was 7:30 PM, which we booked.
