We made reservations at Scutra for our anniversary. When we sat down we were alone in the room. Next a large-ish family came in, and the hostess sat them right next to us. The family was perfectly polite (the kid was adorable), but the tables were so close together that the waitress had to squeeze between us. The other tables never got sat--so I have to wonder why were seated like that. It was difficult to have a private conversation.
My food was excellent, but my spouse did not feel the same way, unfortunately. I found the bananas foster odd in that they were wrapped in filo; what's wrong with regular bananas foster? I had been warned the wine was overpriced but I did not find it to be the case. Our server was great. I liked the music.

I am happy to pay for great food, but this was not worth it. The decor was dated, with chipped paint, and our waiter was attentive until the restaurant got busy. The cocktails were good (not overly sweet), but the wines were mediocre. Both of our salads were lacking in acid, but the entrees were the big problem. I had “sushi grade” (it wasn’t) tuna with a wasabi sauce. There was little-to-no seasoning, and the only hint of wasabi in the sauce was the color. My husband had a rib eye steak and was told that it was worth ordering for the red wine reduction alone. He ordered the steak rare, but got medium. Again, little-to-no seasoning and the sauce was average. Our bill for two courses with two drinks each was $108 ($129 with tip).

The mahi mahi and pork osso bucco were excellent, as was the sausage tostada appetizer--all off the regular menu. The special toasted ravioli appetizer didn't go over as well. The service was, as always, excellent.

Our dining experience at Scutra is usually very good. However, being seated next to a large (12) very noisy group was unpleasant. It was difficult trying to have a conversation with just two of us at a small table.

Scutra is a great value for the quality of the food served. Disches were creative and interesting. Good wine was reasonably priced. Service found the sweet spot between neglect and over-attentiveness.

Wonderful time. food was outstanding. favorite was the baked mussels appetizer and the parmesean crusted veal cutlet on a bed of amazing amazing rissotto. Everyone loved their food. The hostess was either trying to be funny or was sarcastic. Not sure, but suggest she try to be careful re comments.
But, we decided she was trying to be funny and laughed it off. Won't stop us from going back.
