Wonderful elevated Southern homecooking that even my southern hubby adores (and he is a southern cooking snob) PLUS fresh oysters and yummy muscles over french fries. Teenagers LOVES the flatbread with pork belly. A great place to go as a family and still feel like fine dining.

Ambience is attractive. Lively bar setting. Service was good, as waiter was friendly and accommodating. However, some mistakes were made in delivery and billing. The meal itself was very so-so. Food portions were substantial, but not particularly flavorful. I was very disappointed in the taste aspect. Unfortunately, I would not return nor recommend Scratch to friends.

When having a reservation, even for only two, we expect to get more than a tiny booth that practically sits on top of your dining neighbors. It was only 6pm. Wine was a year younger than stated on menu which caused a switch. Salad have very few of the ingredients highlighted on menu. Asked waiter what was giving entree its little 'kick' we tasted and he said there was no spicy kick. Uh, okay. Don't expect much ambience as the space is very large and modern. People seemed to enjoy the bar scene as 7 pm rolled around. With so many choices in Mtn. View we will try something else next time. To each their own.

I read mixed reviews on this place, but being that I am from hawaii and grew up on the Bay Area had to rely on the community for recs. We picked this restaurant, party of nine. The service was goog, the food a HUGE disappointment. ...of course I am being a critic, the braised beef I had was so so very average. Definitely could not stand in the same room as Roy's! My cousin ordered the lamb medium rare, it was served medium and his potatoes (we are not talking russet the fingerlings) were raw and crunchy. They took that meal off the bill. I will not go through the whole meal, but def not worth the money you have to spend. Sadly, this place is scratch and tossed out of any place I ever want to visit.

Pros: Good for Flavorphiles, (when not busy) is great for a romantic dinner, Good drink menu & reasonable corkage Cons: loud at peak hours, certain dishes do disappoint (order a few small dishes and share to discover your likes). Not a cheap place, but worth it if you know what you are in for.

By energetic I mean ear-splittingly loud. My wife and I were literatally shouting at one another across the table. We had to ask the waiter to repeat the specials several times and he couldn't hear our orders without bending over the table. The salmon and short ribs were very good and the service was fine, but I had a headache by the time we fniished dinner. We asked for a quiet table in our reservation having read other reviews about the noise but apparently there is no such thing as a quiet table here.

This place has great food. They have a separate Vegetarian Menu showing the Veg items and there are many. These are great items that non-veg people will love as well. We were a party of 11 at my last visit and everyone loved their food. Four of us were vegetarian and we loved having a variety of things to pick from. The décor is open and airy. They have a large bar with creative cocktails. This is a great spot for cocktails and appetizers or for a full meal. You will love the food!

The silicon valley is hot these days and the Castro street in Mountain View is always buzzing. Scratch offers a hip and popular spot for the valley types. The food was tasty but not of large portions (which I like). The price was reasonable. The wine/beer selections were broad. And they were able to accommodate our large party. The only thing was the service. It was decent but not great. The bus staff insisted on filling water all the time which was disruptive. The wait staff was competent but a little stern. Overall all, I'd give it 4 out of 5 considering its overall performance.

Scratch is truly a gem. I ate there when I visited my son 7 weeks ago. I then returned for his wedding, and immediately booked a reservation at Scratch. I really wanted to get the amazing filet again, but they do not typically offer the filet on their Sunday brunch (but their brunch menu was also fabulous). I contacted Scratch and they graciously made special arrangements to prepare the filet for me. Their food is outstanding, and their wine list and specialty cocktails will please even the most discerning. I highly recommend them.

I ate at Scratch twice in five days & each time was underwhelmed by our waiter especially the 2nd. He arrived promptly, asked us if we wanted water like a bus boy & then left for 15 minutes. We wanted to order drinks which we ended up ordering with our food. Our three drinks arrived in stages, the last being with our food. Nothing like a scotch with your fish. He never checked in once we had our food, hello - I'd like a glass of wine - until we called him over. When we said "no" to dessert, he didn't offer coffee. Thankfully the bus boy was on the ball. Our first waiter was a little better but still looked surprised when we asked questions about the food such as what fish is that?

For an appetizer, we ordered the deviled eggs with crab for $9. We got 1 1/2 egg, deviled with a scrap of crab on top. My husband ordered the filet mignon, which came smothered in a very salty gravy. Why ruin a good piece of meat? Maybe it wasn't such a good piece of meat ... I had the scallops, which I was excited to try. Unfortunately, they were overcooked & dried out. There was nothing redeeming about any of our food. The service was excellent, which was why I gave Scratch 2 stars, but we will not be going back.

What we ordered and received was good but.... My daughter and I were splitting 2 appetizers for our main course along with salads. The crab cake was very good, but on the small side. We also ordered the beef brochette, but it never came. The food had already taken a very long time to arrive to our table, so after about 10 minutes we realized that the beef dish was not going to come. The waiter asked if we wanted him to replace the order. We said no. He then offered to comp a dessert. The cheesecake was very good, but appeared on our bill. He did take it off the bill after we inquired. As we didn't receive a portion of our meal, my daughter and I left hungry. My husband and son had the Ahi Tuna and said it was outstanding.

My 3rd visit and the food was wonderful again. The watermelon/mint/feta/orange/pepper salad was outstanding--a refreshing dish on a hot Saturday.BBQ pork sandwich was unique--a bit spicier than I liked-there was no warning that it came with onion rings. The choice of salad or fries was appreciated; the salad was a nice one and sufficient. The place was almost empty for Sat. lunch and we had three different staff constantly leaning over to refill water glasses that weren't even half empty--no sooner would I resist one than another would appear seconds later, even if I moved the glass further away. We were trying to have a conversation and the interruptions were intrusive. This is inattentive service (not noticing other waiters had done this)

The lobster roll is pretty good and generous, but pricey. I should have split it with wife instead of listening to waitress about the quantity and then ordering a pulled pork sandwich, especially since we also had ordered the calamari salad. My pork sandwich was way too salty. The calamari coating was saturated with garlic. This restaurant should practice a little finesse in cooking. Saturating food with salt or garlic doesn't quite do it. The fries that came with the entrees were enormous portions, another reason to have split a dish. We left most of it. I suggest the sweep potato fries over the regular.

After Scott's closed down, we were looking for a place near TheatreWorks in Mountain View. You could easily walk by Scratch without realizing it is there, but the interior is very nice. There seems to be a lively bar scene, but unlike many other places the noise from the bar area does not overwhelm the surprisingly quiet dining area. Interesting menu with lots of things we wanted to try. Good service. The food came quickly and was excellent. Will definitely go back again.

Food was really rushed. The waiter was waiting in the wings with the entrees while we completed our appetizers. Food was good. Meatballs and Grits & Bacon Wrapped Chorizo Stuffed Dates were tasty. Although, my Oysters Rockefeller had sand in them. Service was bad. Our server was aware that we were there for a birthday.Disappointed to not be brought a small desert for her. We put in 3 separate orders of appetizers. After our last order of appetizers, our dirty plates sat in front of us for 30 minutes. I had to ask him to remove the dirty plates. We asked other servers & attendants for clean plates, utensils, drink orders, etc. Our bill was incorrect. Manager made an exception for happy hour prices but bill did not reflect these prices. It was corrected. It angers me that this server received a 20% gratuity when his service was unsatisfactory.
