  • "What a wonderful dining experience we had at Scratch Bar on Saturday evening. The food was unique and complex with layers of flavor and ingredients in each dish. The service was knowledgeable and friendly to the extent of even describing the best way to technically eat each dish to enjoy all of the flavors intermingling. We purchased the 6 course tasting menu and added a few dishes on. We really could have been satisfied with just the 6 courses but wanted to try more of the creative offerings. We would highly recommend this restaurant and were wondering why it wasn't more crowded."

  • "Food was incredible! Everything is made from scratch at the restaurant. When you are served each plate, your server explains each and every component of the dish. Everything was delicious! I like the small serving/tapas setting so you could try a TON of different items. Moderately priced for what you're getting - everything is super fresh. Our server (Collin) was so funny and personable and had great suggestions. I will definitely return!"

  • "Pretty great experience all the way around. But the noise level was almost intolerable. Its a relatively easy fix that they really need to look into. First, lower the music a bit. Second, some sound absorbers on the walls and ceiling. Its sad to me how many great meals (at many local restaurants) are being ruined by having to shout at one's dinning companions."

  • "I had high expectations of this restaurant but was very disappointed. we had sat for 15 minutes before anyone even brought us menus and to make matters worse. a couple sat down next to us after us and we're immediately given menus, had their orders taken, and we're on their second course before we were acknowledged. the food tasted just ok, nothing spectacular. the best was the cauliflower dish but just because I love cauliflowers. the dessert was a spicy chocolate ganache bar thing of which we took one bite and left it. we both agreed we would not be returning."

  • "This restaurant is right up our alley, innovative food with a focus on fresh, homemade ingredients. Every dish we had was very good, and all had the potential to be something really special with just a few tweaks. We especially enjoyed the corn fried bbq pork fritters with coleslaw. The ambiance of this place is really nice, we are from Oregon and both commented that it reminded us of the Portland food scene which is to say upscale and stylish with a casual flaire. We will definitely be back and look forward to seeing how this place evolves over time."

  • "This place has such delicious and unique dishes. It is totally shocking that I found this place on Groupon- don't let that fool you into thinking they're subpar. This has literally been one of the rarest, most adventurous and tasty dishes I've had in the past 6 months. I had their blackened cauliflower at Scratch|Bar and the next night had the same dish at Gjelina and it was better at Scratch. Try the Smelt and bone barrow dish and the olive oil and bone marrow bread. Everything was great."

  • "I went here on a Groupon. Given that it was on a Groupon, I was expecting something to be wrong with it. My expectations were wildly exceeded. The service was great, the food was extremely unique and very good, and the ambiance had a cool, kind of dim and inviting feel. Plus the fact that they make everything from scratch themselves (chocolate, cheese, butter, etc.) was a unique touch. I would go again and pay full price, no question."

Modern foodies are constantly looking not only for delicious, well prepared dishes, but always looking for new twists on old favorites, seeking out food as artistic combinations unique and interesting. Most attempts to do this I have found often may make a dish interesting, but ultimately sacrifice something else, the more elements mixed together, it is rare for all the elements to reach full harmony. The experience at Scratch Bar shows modern done right. Each dish is not only unique and engaging, the elements of the dish are also in absolute harmony. After dining here twice, this restaurant has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in LA."

Chef Phillipe's creativity to combine different flavors were complex and amazing. It was a treat to have the chef cook in front of us and explain all of the dishes.   • "Everything is made from scratch, down to the sprinkles on their ice cream. The food is inventive and almost art in its combination of colors, tastes, and textures. Our favorites were the blackened cauliflower and the twist on the shooters (with sake and uni and avocado cream). We had a few problems with the service, though. The waiter tried to upsell us on the wine, then included the price of the more expensive wine on the bill. When the revised bill came, we still ended up being overcharged. I had also told him that I was a pescatarian and he served me a dish with pork. Other than these issues (which were probably inadvertent) the place is cute, the servers friendly, and the food delicious! We had the tasting six course tasting menu."

  • "I took my husband to Scratch Bar for his birthday. I knew it was the perfect restaurant for him. It did not fail to deliver. We had the 10 course meal, the taste sensations of all the layers were outstanding. Our waiter was phenomenal. My husband said the bone marrow was the best he had ever had.   • "Service was great, nice atmosphere, good wine. I am considered a foodie and most of all love to eat good food. The menu was very small. I do read them before I show up, but I only found one thing appetizing. And that was the rice dish. That was very good. One of my guest had the flank steak which he said was very good. But that was it. My other two guest were just satisfied but also did not see anything else on the menu to order. After spending good $$$, one should not have to make a quick stop on the way home. Bottom line, I would go back for drinks before dinner, not for dinner. Maybe the menu will change in the future. "

  • "We ordered popcorn for the table and a cup of delicious popcorn arrived that we carefully selected our portions between 4 of us. The same thing happened with the box of vegetables arriving in a "box" with a cup of vegetables. It was surprising as popcorn and vegetables are typically inexpensive. The salmon, kale popcorn and browned cauliflower were good. I'm glad we each ordered an entree or we would've left hungry yet."

  • "I had a truly awesome experience at Scratch Bar. The menu was ambitious yet they managed to do everything right. All from scratch. As I was told. It was once of those nights when we gathered up a bunch of friends and ordered almost everything on a restaurant's menu. Something is bound to disappoint. Wouldn't you think so? Perhaps it was our lucky night (or the restaurant's lucky night?), the general consensus is that every single dish we tried was great. Likes and dislikes just came down to the matter of personal preference. I enjoyed my dinner and I really appreciate how knowledgeable the staff are. Dishes were always presented to the table with enthusiasm. Wine recommendation was to the point."
